Chapter 99
Drake took a deep breath and in a crack voice, he continued speaking.
"I know I am being so fast, Harmony but I cannot betray myself. I know that I love you and I wanted to spend the rest of my life with you. I have been thinking about this for such a long time already and I know that this is the perfect timing for this," he said, and Drake didn"t notice as the tears fell from his eyes.
Harmony covered her mouth. It was as if she was not expecting everything that was happening.
"We have met in an extra ordinary way, and I know that day isn"t an accident at all. God sent you in my way for me to love you. Tonight, there"s one question I have for you," he said, and he was unable to continue because of the shouted that he could hear from his cousins.
"Drake, say it!" Xyrus said which made him shook his head. He was so nervous. He could feel the cold sweat in his hands and in his forehead.
"Alright, Harmony, can you please make me the happiest man on earth?" Drake finally uttered. Then after that, he opened the little black box that he was holding since he knelt earlier.
There was a diamond studded ring inside the little box, and it seemed like had it made especially for Harmony.
Harmony was in awe.
"Say yes!" The crowd were shouting as they were waiting for Harmony"s answer to Drake"s question.
Drake was looking at Harmony and he could see the confusion in her eyes. It was as if she didn"t know what to say. Just a typical reaction for a woman who had been surprised by her boyfriend.
But as seconds passed by, Drake couldn"t help but feel his heartbeat doubled. He couldn"t understand why Harmony was taking so long to answer.
He didn"t know if he should stand up or what. Harmony was not even moving from her position. Her mouth was still covered by her hands.
He took a deep breath as he tried to calm himself down. His mind was in turmoil and he could feel the eyes that were staring at them. Did he just do the right thing? Or it was better if he just waited for his own moment.
Drake couldn"t help but looked at Harmony straight in the eyes. He saw that the woman was frozen from her seat.
"Again," he started to call her attention. "I know that you have no idea that this would be happening tonight as I didn"t give you any clue. But I am here waiting for your answer, Harmony, will you make me the happiest man on earth? Would you please spend the rest of your life with me?" He asked again and he didn"t know where he took all the courage to ask again while he was looking directly at Harmony.
He felt like his knees were melting because he was unable to get any response from the woman.
It took another couple of seconds but this time, he saw Harmony removed her hands covering her mouth.
He had hoped because of that.
It felt like a dream when he saw Harmony nodding her head and the tears were flowing from her eyes. It was the woman couldn"t believe everything that was happening around her.
"What is it, Harmony?" Avery said as if she was encouraging Harmony to verbalize her answer so everyone could actually hear her answer.
"Y--- yes, Drake. It"s a yes," she said in between her tears.
Drake was also crying because he never expected Harmony"s answer. There were a lot of things that happened between the two of them and it took a while for the woman to answer his question.
He stood up and then he started to put the engagement ring in Harmony"s finger.
Everyone was very happy for the two of them.
They heard the loud sound of the applause of the people that were in the party.
Drake proudly showed Harmony"s hand in front of the visitor.
Then, they went near his grandmother.
"Grandma, please meet your first granddaughter-in-law, Harmony. Thank you so much for allowing me to propose at your birthday," Drake said full of emotions in his voice. He couldn"t contain all the emotions that were inside of him.
He was silently wishing that Harmony said yes because it was what she really felt and not because she felt that she needed to say it as a part of their contract.
That was the only thing that he was worried about.
For Drake, the contract didn"t exist anymore. His feelings for Harmony was real and it was something that he never expected to have.
He looked at the woman who was talking to his grandmother. He could say that the happiness that he could see in her face was real.
"Thank you so much for making me the happiest man on earth, Harmony," he whispered in a low voice and then he put the back of her hands in his lips.
He looked at her as if she was the most beautiful woman that night.
"Congratulations, Drake. You have a very beautiful and talented soon-to-be-wife," Xyrus, his cousin greeted them as he approached them.
"Thank you, Xyrus," Harmony said and smiled at the man.
"Thank you, cousin," Drake said and then he also smiled to his cousin for the first time that night.
He felt like he was the luckiest man on earth because of Harmony"s answer. He would be doing his best to make her the happiest wife on earth.
"Congratulations, grandson. I am very happy for you and you deserve to have a kind and loving wife like Harmony," the old Villarama said.
"Thank you, grandma. And I am also happy that fate let me meet, Harmony. I promise that I will take care of her and wouldn"t hurt her," he said in a serious face as he looked at his grandmother and Harmony.
"Well, well," it was his Auntie Carmela who was clapping slowly while she entered the party. She was with another woman who was familiar to him but he couldn"t remember where he saw her.
