Chapter 63
Drake just looked straight as if he was trying look for something in the living room.
Her heart was like being squeezed because she couldn"t believe that she had to stop herself from whatever feeling started to grow inside her for Drake.
"I am sorry. I know that you have done a lot of things for my family," she said as she bowed her head. "I am really sorry, Drake," she said.
"No, Harmony. You don"t have to say sorry. It"s fine. I know that this isn"t part of our agreement. But can we just pretend again?" He said while looking at her eyes.
He was begging and she couldn"t help but feel like she wanted to say yes to him again.
"I am not asking you this because I have done something for you and your family, but the truth is I am doing this for grandma. You know that she is so fond of you, right? She didn"t want me to marry anyone else but only you," he said, and she could tell his sincerity in his voice.
Harmony stopped. She never thought about that.
"You may not believe it but this is the reason and not anything else," he continued.
She didn"t know what she would be thinking of. If Drake was no longer doing it for money or his inheritance but only to make his grandmother happy, then what she should do? She knew that Drake had done everything that he could to make her family happy. To the point that he had to get involve with the surgery including his family just to make sure his dad would get the best of the surgeons in the city.
She let out a deep sigh because she really didn"t know what to do. She knew what exactly Drake was feeling and deep inside her she wanted to say yes.
"Can I think about it?" She finally uttered. "I am sorry, Drake if I cannot give you my yes right now. I am just worried how would Dad and Mom would take it because as you know, our family is going through something and I think this marriage proposal would look untimely for us," she said in all honesty to the man while looking into his eyes.
Harmony could see that Drake understood her and she was thankful that she was not that persistent and would force her for what he wanted to happen.
Suddenly, she remembered Paul. The man started to pester her, and she just hated him more. She could not even imagine how the man had the courage to face her after he had dumped her.
She didn"t notice that Drake was looking at her.
"I wonder who or what are you thinking which could make your eyebrows almost touch each other," he said which made her back to her senses.
"Oh, I am sorry," she said and bit her lower lip.
"Should I guess?" Drake said as he shook his head. It was as if he had already an idea about what was inside her mind.
She let out a deep sigh.
"Alright, I give up. This is about Paul," she said. "I don"t know but it was as if he wanted us to get back together."
"Of course, you can"t, right?" He said and Harmony was stunned.
She didn"t expect that reaction from Drake. It was as if he was really against for the two of them to get back together. She could see how rejection was written all over his face.
She nodded. There was no way that she would be accepting Paul. She owed Drake a lot and she wouldn"t just leave him all alone. Drake needed her and she knew that deep inside her, she needed Drake more than the man knew.
"I am relieved," he said and then smiled at her.
"Drake, so can you tell my mom about the marriage proposal? See how she would react if you told her? Like you will say to her that this would be a surprise for me?" She spoke.
"Okay, I will try to tell her and let"s see her reaction. I will just tell her that it"s my surprise for my grandmother," he said.
"Then, let"s just work out how we would be breaking up at a later time," she said.
Harmony didn"t notice how Drake tighten his grip in his coffee and then his jaws clenched.
"Yeah, right," the man said.
"Thank you, Drake. If mom is okay with the idea then I guessed, we can proceed with the proposal," she said while smiling at Drake.
"Thank you, Harmony. I know this is hard for you especially that Paul is around again," the man said which made her eyebrows knitted together. What did he mean by Paul is around?
She shook her head.
"No, it"s not what you think, Drake. As far as I know everything that is between us already ended when he left me in the café," she said as her heart felt a pinching sensation when she recalled that day that she looked so stupid.
Paul left her without waiting for her response. He ended their relationship and walked away from her without hearing anything from her.
"I was hurt. Yes, was because I have already moved on. I know that I am better off of him. It could be hard to believe but I am okay without Paul," Harmony wanted to voice it out to Drake, but she held herself. She didn"t want Drake to think that he could be the reason why she had easily forgotten her ex-boyfriend.
Drake just shrugged his shoulders, and both of her eyebrows were raised. It was as if the man was not convinced on what she had said.
"Okay, if you say so. Go and get your dad"s stuff because your mom might already be waiting for us," he said and then she remembered the reason why they actually went home.
"Okay, I am sorry. I already forget about it," she said and then she quickly stood up.
