Chapter 97
"I am Harmony," she said and then after that she looked at Drake. She could see how his jaws clenched. It was as if he was not happy that she was talking to his cousin. But what would she be doing? She didn"t want to be the cause of trouble in the party.
"And, how are you related to my cousin?"
"Xy, that"s enough," Drake said in a firm tone as he sharply gazed at his cousin who just walked away from them.
Xyrus felt that Drake was not joking, and he knew that something would happen if he wouldn"t back out.
"Please, don"t mind my other cousins. There"s a lot of them and I am sure that they would be approaching us to," he said to her which she just nodded.
Though she couldn"t understand why the man was behaving like that.
"Is there something wrong?" She couldn"t help but ask the man.
"No, there isn"t," he said. "I don"t just trust them."
"But wh---" Harmony was cut in the middle of her sentence when the host of the party suddenly appeared before them.
"Drake, is this your girlfriend? Is she ready? She is the one opening the party," the host said while looking at her.
"Yeah, this is Harmony," Drake introduced her to the woman who was almost the same of their age.
"Hi," she greeted the woman as she smiled to her.
"Hello, I am Avery. You got a very beautiful girlfriend, Drake," she said in a teasing voice.
She just smiled while she was shaking her head.
"Indeed, I am also handsome, so I just deserve someone beautiful," he said and he was obviously close to the woman because he was exchanging jokes with her.
"Silly," Avery said and then she turned to her. "Are you okay to go to the piano?" She said to her and then she looked at her wristwatch.
"It is almost time and we should start," she said.
"Yes, I should be good," she said and then she looked at Drake. "Babe, I will just have to go there," she said to the man. She saw how the man was shocked because of the endearment that she used.
"Okay, babe. See you later."
Harmony and Avery left Drake. She was going to be the opener of the party. She didn"t know if she should be thankful or what because she felt her heart was beating so fast.
She was just hoping that she could play properly without any problems. She knew that she didn"t have any stage fright but the thing was this was the first time that she was going to play a piano in front of a lot of people which she didn"t even know.
She wanted to regret that she agreed to this. She never thought that she would be feeling this way when it was already time for her to sit down on the grand piano and play the favourite piece of Drake"s grandmother.
"Thank you," she said to Avery as she guided her to the grand piano. She was thankful to the woman"s presence.
"No worries. So, once I finish speaking at the front. You can start playing the piece, okay?" Avery instructed her.
"Alright," she said and then Avery left her alone in the corner. She was sitting in front of the grand piano.
She could hear the deafening sound of her heart.
"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen," the woman started while she was looking with all the guests in the party. "Tonight, we are celebrating the party of the head of the Villarama family," she said and then she heard the loud sound of the claps of the visitors.
"So, to start this occasion, please let us listen to Mrs. Villarama"s favourite classical piece that will be played by her grandson"s girlfriend, Harmony," Avery said and she heard another round of applause.
She could feel that all of the eyes of the guests were on her.
Harmony took a deep breath and then she started to press the keys on the piano. She decided to close her eyes so she wouldn"t get nervous because of the stares of the people that were in the party.
She was trying to recall the first time that she met Drake and the first time that she set her feet at the Villarama"s place. The night when she first played this piece and she knew that his grandmother got close to her because of this. It was her favourite so Harmony played it so well. She played using her heart even without looking at the keys in the keyboard.
Every note and the music it made, she felt like it touched her heart and she felt like there should be no reason for her to be lonely and to doubt everything that was happening between her and Drake.
Drake was true to her. She could feel his honesty in every word that he was saying towards her.
She didn"t notice that she was already swaying her body and head gently as she played the music.
It was soothing in her ears and she felt like her mood lightened up because of it. Now, she could understand why it was Drake"s grandmother"s favourite piece.
Finally, she hit the last key and then she opened her eyes.
She saw all the people looking at her while they were all smiling. She could say that everyone was very happy with her performance, and she felt glad too. At least, she didn"t put Drake into shame.
She took a deep breath as she could still feel her heart was beating so fast.
"Thank you, Ms. Harmony. That"s a very soothing piece and I admitted that I have been carried away with the rendition that you made. If the guests will agree with me, I feel like I am walking down the aisle while I am listening to it," Avery praised her and she couldn"t help but only smile to the woman as a response.
