Chapter 45

Harmony didn"t know what to say. She was just looking at Drake full of disbelief.
"So, what are you expecting from?" She said to him after she heard what he said. "I mean, look," she shook her head.
She didn"t even know what words would come out on her mouth.
She didn"t know what to say.
"I am sorry, Harmony. I know that your reaction would be like this. I just tried," he said in a low voice, and she could tell that he was sincere with his words.
"I know but marriage is just a big deal for me. We can be pretend boyfriend and girlfriend but to be husband and wife, I don"t think that"s a good idea," she said as she tried to be calm and find the right words to say.
"No worries. I know. I feel the same way, trust me. It just tried and that"s all. I am not going to force you to do it," he said.
"But seriously? You still cannot get your inheritance?" She asked out of curiosity.
He nodded to her surprise.
"Yes, unfortunately. Grandmother spoke to me and my dad. So, they actually gave me a choice. Marry you or marry a woman that I barely knew," he said in a bitter tone. "Well, I guessed it"s time for me to give up my dreams and just let my cousins take over the company instead of me. I have been through a lot. It is hard to prove myself to the people around me," he added.
She could see the sadness in his face but what could she do?
Her mom wouldn"t like it and of course, she didn"t want her dad to get surprise as well. On top of that, getting married was not really on her mind at the moment.
"I am just really confused why all of a sudden they wanted you to get married," she couldn"t help but ask.
"Well, as per grandma, she felt like we are not really into each other. She also said that if I am going to take over the company, the responsibility would be heavy so as much as possible, he wanted me to get married before taking over so I wouldn"t forget having a family of my own," he said.
Her eyes were widened.
"That"s not bad at all. I think she is just really concerned about you. She just wanted to make sure that you are already settled down," she said and then looked at him.
It seemed that the man had all the weight of the world on his shoulders.
"I am sorry I cannot help you," she said in all honesty.
Drake smiled at her. "Don"t feel sorry. I know for a fact that this would be something not easy for you. I just gave it a shot and it"s really fine. If I am to ask, I don"t really want to get married as well. I still have a lot of plans for myself," he said.
She just nodded.
She knew that because one of their rules was not to fall in love. They were not allowed to fall in love with each other. And Harmony knew that if they would get married, that would mean that they would be living in one roof, she wouldn"t know what could happen then.
"Maybe try to talk again to your grandma, Drake. She should be able to understand you," she said as she didn"t know what really to say with his situation. She never imagined that having money could be this difficult because of everything that the man was going through.
Their families wanted to secure everything even if it would mean someone else"s happiness.
She felt like she was still lucky to have her parents and grew up in an ordinary family and yet full of love.
He just shrugged his shoulders as a response.
"Shall we go?" He suddenly said and then he stood up.
Harmony just nodded her head and then he followed the man.
She didn"t really know what the man was thinking. She knew that even if he said that it was okay, he was disappointed because she refused to grant his request.
There was a deafening silence when they were already inside the car.
Harmony chose to keep her mouth shut since she didn"t really don"t know what to say because of their last conversation.
She couldn"t say it was okay because she could see in his eyes that he was not okay.
It didn"t take a while and they were finally at the front of their house.
"Do you want to come in?" She asked as she broke the silence that was between the two of them. She looked at the man, but he was not looking at her. He seemed to be thinking deeply about the things that were going on in his life.
"Drake?" She called his attention when she didn"t respond to her.
"Oh, yes?" He said and he was obviously startled.
"Are you going inside?" She asked again.
"No, I think it"s already late. Go and take a rest. Thanks for your time," he said and then after that he didn"t say anything else.
So she got down of the car.
"Thank you and please drive safely," she said and then walked in their gate.
"You go. I will get inside once you leave," she added.
"No, go inside and I will driver away once you are already inside the house," he said in a firm voice.
So, she followed him and went inside their house.
She knew that he couldn"t question him because she was well aware of how hard his situation was. He didn"t want to get his inheritance because he wanted money but he wanted to take over of the company and continue the legacy of their family. Unfortunately, his family didn"t have any confidence in him that"s why he was put in that kind of predicament.
How she wished she could do something for him.
