Chapter 50

It didn"t take long, and they finally arrived at the hospital. As soon as the ambulance stopped, her father was brought in the emergency room.
Harmony felt pity to her father because there were a lot of things that was put in his body.
"The patient had a severe heart attack, and we need to perform surgery," the doctor said to her mother.
She saw how her mother felt like a melting candle. She was right after all. Everything that she had thought was right, but she was unable to do anything to prevent this from happening to her dad.
Her mother was unable to fight back her tears and from there she broke down.
"I am sorry if this happened. The patient needs to be in ICU until the surgery happened so that we can monitor him closely," the doctor added.
Harmony could see the concern in the doctor"s face while he was looking at her crying mom.
"D--- doc, I am the daughter of the patient. What do we need in order for us to get the surgery done?"
"Let"s go in my clinic and I can discuss further what we need to do," he said and then he started to walk away from the emergency room.
Harmony felt like a bucket of ice was poured into her. She didn"t know what to say when she heard everything that her dad"s doctor said to her mom.
"B--- but doc, where can we get that amount?" Her mother said and she started to cry again.
"I understand, Ma"am. That"s why I encourage you to reach out to charities and organization for heart patients. That would be a big help for you. But then again, I just want to remind you that we need to perform the operation as soon as possible. Your husband is just relying in the life support system that he had in his body and if that would take long, I am not sure what would be happening. Though, we know that it would have forty percent chance that the operation would be successful as well," he said while looking at her mother.
It was like they were taking the risk with the operation. It would be a do or die decision. Actually, death is in both choices they have and all they should have would have the courage and take the risk of what"s going to happen.
"Is that the only thing that we could do, Doc? Is there any other alternate for my father to be well?" She asked while praying that the doctor would say yes.
To her dismay, the doctor shook his head.
"I am sure that you are very well aware of what happened to your father previously. So, this operation is needed if we want to add years in his life. I know where the doubts are coming from, but this is what we recommend and it"s up to you as his family members to decide whether to take it or not," the doctor said to her and her mother.
They both nodded.
Harmony was on the hallway when suddenly her phone rang.
"Hello, Drake?" She answered the call as soon as she saw that it was the man who was calling.
"Where are you? No one is home. You didn"t tell me that you are leaving today," he said.
"No, I am sorry. We had an emergency. We are at the hospital," she said and trying to hide the sadness and worry in her voice.
"What happened? Who is in the hospital?" The man asked in a shock voice.
"It"s dad. We brought him here this morning. He lost consciousness," she said and the call didn"t take a while. It ended after she said what hospital they brought her father.
She stayed in the hallway as they couldn"t stay at the ICU. They should be getting another room but the room that were available were private room which cost a lot and if they wanted to save for the operation of her father, they should not be getting a private room. So, she was in the hallway while her mother went to the hospital chapel.
She couldn"t imagine that this would happen to her dad again. Maybe, his heart was really weak and they became so confident that this wouldn"t be happening because he never told them that something hurt.
But, she should have checked on him.
She felt guilty because she had been so busy that when she got home, her father was already sleeping and when she wake up in the morning, her father was already gone for work.
She failed to take care of her father like the way that he took care of her when her mother was not around.
She felt mad at herself for being a worthless child.
How could she be unable to foresee this situation? What happened to her?
"Harmony," Drake"s voice from not far brought her back to her senses. She was unable to fight back her tears when she saw the man standing few inches away from her.
"D--- Drake," she said and then she finally broke down again.
"Shh... everything"s going to be okay," he said as he rubbed her back. How she wished he was right. He was right that her father would be fine and that they would be able to get the money that they needed for the surgery.
"By the way, why are you here?" He said asking about why she was sitting at the hallway.
She shook her head. She didn"t know if she should be saying to Drake their problem.
"Tell me. What"s wrong?" He said while his eyebrows were knitted together.
"Dad needs to have a surgery and we needed a huge amount of money," she said and she felt like she was having difficulty breathing as she recalled their situation. "We cannot get a private room where I and mom could stay. The money that we will be spending there, we will just use it for dad"s operation."
He looked at her and then he held both of her shoulders.
"Harmony, money is not a problem here."
