Chapter 58

Harmony shook her head.
"No, I was just thinking," she said.
Drake"s eyebrows were drawn together as he was staring at her.
"Silly, then why you look so shock," he said and then he shook his head.
She just shrugged her shoulders. She could not also understand herself why she kept on finding herself thinking at Drake and staring at him.
Her heart was pounding so fast as she described the man inside her mind. She knew that whatever the feeling that tried to grow inside her was so wrong. Drake had been so clear what were they and if she crossed that border, it would be her that could get hurt.
He already talked to her that they couldn"t be in love because what they have was purely a deal.
She let out a deep sigh. Why was she even thinking about this matter right now?
Harmony was in a deep thought when they all heard the operating room door opened.
She quickly stood up and then walked as fast as she could near the door.
The doctors and the nurses started to come out from the room.
She could hear her heart hammering in her ribcage.
"Doc, how"s the operation? How is my husband?" Her mother asked full of worry in her face.
The doctor looked at them. She couldn"t what was taking the doctor long to give them an update.
"Doc?"
"He is okay now. I can say he is in a stable condition, but we need to monitor him for the next seventy-two hours," he said. "If he survives, that would be the time we can say this is a successful operation."
"But why isn"t sure now? What happened? I thought that he would survive right after the operation?" Her mother suddenly became emotional when she heard what the doctor said.
"Ma"am, please calm down. We did our best. Your husband is in a stable condition now but please advise that we perform surgery to one of the vital organs of the body so if you will be thinking about it, the patient still in a critical stage," the doctor tried to explain to them.
She understood. Even if they have successful done it, they couldn"t say until her father last for a couple of days.
It was truly frustrating, but she knew that the doctors did their best in her father"s case, and she was already thankful with that.
"Thank you, doc. I know you did your best to save my father," she said and then the doctor nodded and continued to walk away from them.
Her mother was still shocked as if she couldn"t comprehend what the doctor just said.
She and Drake guided her mother in the bench.
"It"s going to be okay, mom. I know they did their best. They were almost seven hours inside the operating room. We cannot say that they didn"t do everything that they could," she said and then she hugged her mother so tight. She knew how heavy her heart was, but she couldn"t do anything about.
"Excuse me, who are the relatives of the patient?"
"Yes? I am his wife," her mother said and then she slightly pushed her away from her body.
"The patient will be staying in ICU for the next seventy-hours so we can monitor him. Then once he is stable after that, he will be transferred in the regular room," she said and then she left them.
"I am sure that is okay, mom. He is a fighter. You know?" She said as she tried to lighten up the mood that was with them.
"That"s right, Ms. Catalina. Let"s go in the private room first. You have to take a rest. So when Uncle wake up, you have all the energy to talk to him," Drake said trying to make his voice lively.
And Harmony couldn"t deny to herself how much she wanted to tell the man that she appreciated his presence. She didn"t know what she would be doing if Drake was not around. He had been a great support for her and for her mother.
"By the way, Drake, are your family aware that you are here with us?" Her mother asked the man.
He nodded.
"Yes, I think dad and grandma should be here once they are available. I already told them about what happened to Harmony"s father. They are also the one whom I was with during the meeting with the doctors and they told them to do everything that they could during the operation. We have pick the best doctors that we have and also invited different heart surgeon from the different hospitals," he said and Harmony didn"t feel any trace of bragging. She could say that Drake had told them about it because he wanted his mother to stay calm.
"Thank you, Drake. I don"t know how can I repay you and your family for doing this to my family," Harmony said in a cracked voice. She couldn"t help but feel emotional because she never thought that she could find someone like Drake in her life.
Their relationship was only because of the contract that they had and yet the man was going beyond what he should be doing. And, this time it looked like he was the one doing her a favour instead of her to him.
Her heart was filled with gladness because of this man.
And, she knew that her father would be able to survive the surgery as there are a lot of people who wanted to help them for him to be able to get through this situation that they were facing at the moment.
To her surprise, Drake put the hair strand that was in her face at the back of her ear.
She couldn"t understand but she felt like her world turned so slow as she was just staring at the man.
She could feel her heart was beating so fast while looking at him and as their gazes met.
