Chapter 56

Harmony was walking back and forth in the hallway outside of the operating room. Her mother was sitting in bench and her hands were covering her face while her elbows were on her legs.
Drake never left the woman"s side. He couldn"t understand himself, but he wanted to be with her in this time of her life. It was so difficult to see the woman"s face in this kind of situation.
Harmony had her finger in her lips while she looked so worried.
It was had been an hour and half since the surgery started. Drake could see the worry in her face and the nervous.
He wanted to envelope her inside his arms, but he held himself. He didn"t want her to think anything about him. He didn"t know where it started and when it started but he could feel that his heart was beating abnormally when the woman was near. And he couldn"t stand the fear that he could see in Harmony"s eyes.
"Harmony..." He called her when she walked in front of him. "Can you sit down, please?"
She let out a deep sigh and looked at him. How he wished he could do something to lighten up the situation.
"How?" She said while still her gaze was on him.
"I know what you feel right now but you have to calm down. You have to wait for the doctors, and I know that we can trust them. I spoke to everyone before the surgery happened," he said and praying that Harmony would calm down. He trusted the doctors that performed the surgery to her father.
"Yeah, I am sorry. I couldn"t help but feel nervous because of everything that happened," she said and then she looked at her mother.
Drake looked at Ms. Catalina as well.
Drake rubbed Harmony"s mother"s back.
"Ms. Catalina, everything will be fine. Uncle will be able to survive," he said in a low voice.
He knew how much they were afraid. It was as if the same feeling that he had when he knew that his mother was about to leave him. He could still remember that day that he feared the most. The day that his mother walked away from him and left him in his dad"s care.
He was so young, and he couldn"t understand what was going on around him. He felt so bad for himself because since that day, he never saw his mother.
He knew how bad it was to miss someone and he could relate what Ms. Catalina and Harmony was feeling. They were just afraid to lose the man of their lives.
"I am sorry. Yeah, I trust you, Drake. I know you have told them how much important this operation to us. Thank you for not leaving me and my daughter," Ms. Catalina said in a crack voice. She looked at him and he couldn"t stand the sadness that he could see in her eyes.
How he wished he could do anything to comfort them.
He let out a deep sigh.
"Should we get coffee or anything?" He said as it was already six in the morning, but the door of the operating room had not yet opened.
He could say that his heart was also pounding so fast as they were all waiting in front of the room and hoping for good news to hear.
"Oh, yeah, mom, let me get you a coffee. Do you want one, Drake?" Harmony suddenly asked him.
"It"s okay, I can go with you. There"s a vending machine at the ground floor we can get there," he said and then he smiled at her.
She smiled at him too, but she couldn"t hide the nervousness that she was feeling inside.
"You can stay here if you want and I can just get you and Ms. Catalina," he quickly added.
Harmony shook her head.
"I should be good. I can help you," she said. "Mom, do you want anything else?"
"Just a coffee, sweetie. That should do it," she said still looking at the door of the operating room.
They had been there for more than two hours though the doctors said that the operation could last until five hours. He was just hoping that everything was fine inside. He was hoping that it would be successful so he wouldn"t see Harmony worrying for her dad.
He felt like his chest was tightening because he couldn"t do anything about it. Drake could pay all their bill but there was no way that he could do something about the result of the operation. The only thing that they could all do was to pray for it.
The fear and the worry were all because when the doctors said that the result would just be forty percent, so they really had to pray so hard.
"Thank you, Drake. I really appreciate you being there with us. But you really don"t have to," she said to him while they were waiting for the coffee in the vending machine.
"I know that you don"t need me here but Harmony, I think got close with your family in a short period of time that I have known you. Your mother had been there for me during the darkest time of my life, and I just wanted to return that favour," he said and then the sound of the vending machine was heard.
Harmony smiled at him. He was missing the real smile coming from this woman. How he wished that this would end soon and her father would be safe after the surgery.
"Dad had been my pillar of strength, Drake. I don"t know what will happen to me if something bad happened to him. I should have not stop from working. Maybe if I didn"t take master"s degree then this wouldn"t happened. He needed to have overtime because he wanted for me to have a peace of mind while studying. He never thought that he was already abusing his body," she said in a crack voice.
