Chapter 67
Harmony found herself inside Drake"s hand. She didn"t notice that her tears already fell. Though her father was already out of danger, the doctor said to them that he still needed to be monitored to ensure his recovery.
The amount that they were going to spend to do that was not a joke.
She knew that her mother was already ashamed of Drake and his family because they could see how they were trying their best to extend help to them.
"I am just here. Please stop crying. Just consider this as a storm in your life and soon, this is going to stop," he said in a low voice.
His breath touched her skin and amidst the loneliness that she was feeling, she couldn"t deny the sudden spark that she felt.
She held her breath because of the sudden heat that arose from her body as the tears continuously flowing from her eyes.
Harmony never thought that this would happen to her family. She thought that her dad was able to pass through this stage, but she was wrong. Because what happened before was nothing compared to what happened to her dad now.
She felt like her world was going to crash as she couldn"t imagine what will happen to her if something bad happened to her father.
He had been always with her since she was young. He was the first man that she had loved. The first man that treated her like a princess. Her father was the man who made her realized that she was worth to fight for and she was worth to take care of. So, if her father would leave them, then, she felt like she would go astray.
She simply couldn"t imagine the life without her father on her side.
"Shhh... Trust me, Harmony, everything will be fine. You just have to pray and have faith to God," she heard Drake whispered again.
The man pushed her a little to give distance in their bodies. Then he looked at her straight in the eyes while he was wiping her tears with his thumb.
Harmony was so confused. She couldn"t understand why Drake was doing all of these. Sometimes, she was already thinking that this was so far from the contractual relationship that they had.
She inhaled and exhaled to calm herself.
She felt like Drake"s gazes were penetrating her very soul.
Harmony rested her head again on his chest. For that moment, she didn"t want to think what would Drake think about her. She wanted to feel the calmness and the peace that she felt whenever she was inside his arms.
She couldn"t even understand herself. She knew that it couldn"t be. It shouldn"t be happening because it was a breach of contract but she couldn"t deny anymore to herself that her heart was starting to betray her. Her heart was turning so weak whenever Drake was around.
Just like now, her heartrate doubled as she leaned her head in his chest.
Harmony felt Drake"s hand rubbing her back and then the man put his head on her shoulders.
The moment was just so perfect. It was as if they were really in a romantic relationship. A boyfriend who was so in love with her girlfriend. So, was her as the girlfriend who was so in love with her boyfriend.
How she wished that she could freeze the moment. It was a picture-perfect position of a man and a woman who were trying to comfort each other amidst the chaos of life. But she knew that it wouldn"t last long.
Harmony knew that once she opened her eyes, that fantasy would end.
"I don"t want to end this," she said, and she didn"t know that she actually uttered those words.
On the other side, Drake was smiling as he even hugged her tighter.
Harmony wanted for that moment to not end but she was startled when her mother suddenly spoke.
"Harmony, someone is waiting for you outside," her mother said which made her and Drake quickly looked at her. Who could that person be?
"By any chance, did he mention who he is?" She couldn"t help but ask her mother.
But to her dismay, she just shook her head and then she walked back to the couch where she was sitting.
"Go and look who is it," Drake said and then nodded at her.
"Okay. But do you want to come with me?" She said in a voice with hesitation.
Drake looked at her again and his eyebrows were knitted together. "Do you think that it is Paul?" He asked to her while she was fixing her hair.
She nodded. There was no sense for her to hide what she was feeling for the man. She was afraid that the man outside was Paul. It seemed that the man never get tired of waiting for her which she couldn"t understand.
"Okay, let"s go ahead and face the visitor together," he said and then he clung on of her hands in his forearm.
"Thank you again, Drake."
"Hey, it"s really fine. I don"t know how many times I have already said thank you to you and your mother but it seems like you don"t believe me that it"s perfectly fine?" He said while he was scratching his head. It was as if he was already tired of explaining everything to her.
"I am sorry. You cannot just take away this feeling for me, Drake. It wouldn"t be everyday that you will know someone who will be willing to help you in life without asking anything in return," she said while looking at him. "And, I can say that I am thankful because you are there for me. God gave me you even if I am not asking for it. Maybe, God really knew what we needed before we can even as for it," she added.
"Don"t think so much, Okay? Let"s go and check the person outside. He might already be waiting for a while now."
