Chapter 169: A true friend
Amaris”s POV
"I'm sorry about earlier" she began and I buried my head in the crook of her neck, feeling devastated.
I pulled out of the embrace, heaving a sigh and looking straight into her eyes.
"Thank you for showing up" I said with a weak smile and she nodded stroking my head.
She shifted our attention to Davis and his wife, they looked so pertrified. Mostly the shock would be hard on her because she's pregnant.
I moved up to them, they were standing side by side and I held their hands.
"It's not your fault" I began with a heavy sigh. With the attitude I displayed earlier, it felt as though I was accusing them for the fate of my son when they aren't at fault.
Davis held my stretched arms and then inhaled softly.
"I'm sorry about the whole situation..."
"Come on, stop apologizing, look at Becky, she needs rest but she's worked up than ever" I snapped cutting him short and he took a glimpse at her.
"I'm not leaving"
"Yes we are fine by staying" Davis reported but Mia's long hiss from behind was something else.
"No you're not, do you want her delivering prematurely? Then why am I here? If you're that concerned, then listen to her, you could come around tomorrow and check up on the kid"
Davis exhaled as he seems stunned by her words. I held his wife gaze who rubbed her stomach and then exhaled.
"We'd leave when Aaron opens his eyes" she muttered and Davis nodded. Seems he is listening to his wife.
I nodded and then smiled for their efforts of being here.
Their wish was granted and seeing Aaron all sitting and not on oxygen mask anymore was reliving.
After spending a while with him, they left and only Mia and I was left with him.
I slept beside him, telling him tales and rubbing his forehead until he felt asleep.
Mia was at a corner and I was unable to sleep and so talking to her would easy the panic in me.
I rose up from the bed to meet her. She had two cups of cinnamon tea prepared with pies.
Even though it was late at night, a light beverage and snack would help.
I sat beside her on a chair opposite her. Our eyes stared at the window. There was silence between us as she thinned her lips and then suck her breath.
"About today, I'm sorry for the way I acted, I just wasn't sane when I acted all out of proportion"
I smirked at me and then folded her arms.
"I know you're a lunatic so I wasn't bothered, at least you didn't chase me away"
Why is she doing nice? I felt emotional and nodded as tears had clouded my eyes.
"Don't start emotional freak, please take the tea, it took me miles to get it for us" she mused grimacing at me and then I let out a sided smile.
"I won't" I responded sniffing and then we chuckled.
"Hey did you lose your phone or something?" She questioned relaxing her back on the chair and I nodded.
My mouth had a taste of the cinnamon tea and I complimented the brewer.
"Someone gave me a ride over here, I just hope my car is safe too" I added while taking a bite from the pie.
"If he is genuine, he'd call back" she pointed out and immediately she said that, her phone buzz.
We widened our eyes at each other.
"It's an unknown contact" she announces and I beckoned on her to make it louder just i could here.
She replied, clearing her throat.
"Hi... I'm sorry for bugging you this late, I tried so many contacts and it's a relief this one went through"
Most of my contacts don't really respond to unknown contacts. He should have used my phone rather.
"Okay, what's this all about?" She questioned rising from her chair.
"You're Mia right?"
"Yes"
"Okay, your friend lost her phone and right now I'm at the hospital I dropped her off few hours again, just curious to know if she's still there so I could hand it over to her..." He paused and I could hear an ambulance in the background.
"And her car too" he added and we took a glimpse at ourselves then at the door.
"Yes, I'm also there, I'd come meet you" she responded raising a thumb up for me which implies I shouldn't panic.
She waved at me and I nodded that she should leave while I stay behind with Aaron.
It took a while and I was quite tensed to know what was keeping her this long.
Curiously, I moved towards the window to take a peek at him. However, I only got a view of his back when he was leaving.
He suddenly stopped and turned slowly to face the window I stood just when I intended to take a full glimpse of him but then I got distracted.
Hastily, I closed the window as the door squeak open and I shoved my gaze to meet that of the pertrified mia.
She closed the door and slammed her back on it. She looked so shock and her hands were trembling.
"The guy who drove you here...D-did you see his face?" Mia questioned panting softly.
"What? Not really, my eyes had some blurry vision earlier" i responded stretching my hand just so she'd hand over the phone.
"You're acting as though you just met with a ghost" I pout with a serious look at her.
She shook her head and then paced towards her chair to sit.
"I'm just fascinated that such good people exist" she muttered but her tone just didn't sound confusing.
"Does he remind you of someone?" I asked moving to sit with her.
"No not really, you phone is safe so just take it okay" she pressed on, took my hand and placed the phone on my palm.
"Let's forget such an incident happen, that way we could avoid problems"
