Chapter 88: The Family Dinner
Amaris POV
I took a peek at him as he adjusted his tie, feeling so uncomfortable. If it were his wife, he would have taken out my eyes.
I dart my gaze to the new faces I was seeing for the first time. I thought he never had a family.
Or he did but cut off from them. We were at the garden, the cool breeze brush mildly on my skin.
The sweet fragrance of roses and the beautiful scenery was magnificent.
The maids served us different delicacies and it seems as though it was a feast.
He had introduced me earlier but from their expression, they were quite against us.
There was silence as no one was saying anything except the serious faces of his parent.
Caleb drew a plate of spaghetti to himself and told me to try it. He was distracting me or perhaps trying to make me feel relax.
But I don't think I could because their hot gaze on me says everything. It's a relief he doesn't have a sibling just his parent.
"I'm against this" his mother was the first to break the silence and I heaved a sigh.
If everyone disagrees then i'd be free, mother's don't really hide their thoughts.
"I never ask for your opinion" he rudely replied twirl the spaghetti with his fork.
I cleared my throat as that was quite rude.
"It's fine by me if she agrees to this on her own will" his father replied and I rolled my eyes towards him.
He knows his son but then what do I say? Will he save me if I speak the truth.
"I don't need her consent, we've fuck a number of times and she loves it"
"Oh God, Caleb manners!" His mother spat and I felt so embarrassed that he keeps spewing to everyone that we've fucked.
Doesn't he have filters in his mouth, I wish the ground would open and swallow me.
I guess they might think I'm one of those his whores. My hands shook where I sat as his father had a curious gaze at me.
He was judging me already.
"Relationship doesn't revolve around sex Caleb, I only agreed because you aren't who people think you are" I replied between my teeth eyeing him with anger brewing up in my heart.
His mother scorn at me.
"What if she's after your wealth, like the cheap whore..."
"Shut up! Don't you dare call her that!" Caleb roared thudding his hand on the table and I shuddered, the drink I managed to grab fell off.
"Watch your mouth boy!" His father retorts and Caleb scoffed unbelievably.
"You're free to leave!" Caleb responded, fuming, his body vibrates where he sat.
Oh no, this was bad, why would he speak to his mom in that manner? His dad gnashed his teeth as it seems he couldn't do anything.
I threw my gaze at Caleb, beckoning on him to stop as he was hurting her. She had every right to air her opinion and there were better ways to keep her mum.
I locked my fingers with his, trying to control the gripping situation. The way his mother seem dishearten was bemusing.
He was breathing fast and had clenched left fist, glaring at his mother but I used my other hand to rub his thighs while placing a sober face at her.
"I'm so sorry about that, he never meant it" i apologized.
"You don't need to, it's a part of us now" his father replied in a low tone. If he'd behave this way to his parents, then he shouldn't have let them come over.
I took an excuse just so I could talk to Caleb but he was refusing to come along even when I pinched him, he only returned a daring glare to me.
I don't think it would work, I can't control him yet. I faked a smile and gave up trying while beckoning on them to try and eat something.
Unfortunately, they've lost their appetite.
"Did I miss something?" A sonorous voice suddenly drew in. That voice was enthralling that I was forced to look around to see who it was.
I let go of Caleb's hand at the sight of this man. It seems as though an angel had lost his way to earth.
Handsome was an understatement and I sat agap if Caleb hadn't cleared his throat.
I fluttered my eyes and heaved a sigh. People like us were just unfortunate to be stuck with the devil.
He sat opposite us, his groomed hair suit his spotless face.
"Oh, you got yourself a beautiful angel" he commented in a whisper and stretched his hand for a handshake, I almost accepted it not until Caleb shook him instead and said;
"I never invited you over Davis"
Caleb was a headache and it seems he's against everyone in the family. I could see the resemblance and Davis must be his younger brother.
Davis drew his hand away and then kissed his mother on the cheek.
"Why the gloomy face mom, I might fall sick" he asked stroking her back gently and she let out a wry smile.
My heart was melting softly as he was trying to lighten the dark mood. His appearance says everything and Caleb was freaking out where he sat.
My eyes lowered at Caleb's legs which he was shaking under the table.
"What's the name pretty?" He asked and my cheeks suddenly flushes red.
Caleb thuds his hand on the table again and I almost passed out from a heart attack because he keeps pertrifying everyone but Davis doesn't seem bothered.
"Don't be scared, I won't snatch her away" he joked and their father only cuss silently.
Their mother's eyes kept scruntizing me and fear gripped me, nevertheless, I couldn't help but stare at this guy called Davis.
He was so jovial and not moved by Caleb's condescending behavior and gestures.
"I heard your wedding is in two days bro, wow, you're gonna be a family man!" He exclaimed widening his eyes at Caleb who grabbed his cutlery as though wanting to stab Davis with it.
I noticed Caleb almost responded but then I decided to speak up first.
"It would be an honor to be part of this family, I'm amaris by the way" I introduced to him as he had brighten my mood with his voice and funny act.
Davis let out a smile revealing the dimples on his face. He took a banana, peeled it and handed it to his mom who collected it.
The parents weren't talking as they seem fed up or embittered by Caleb's attitude. If I were in their shoes, I would have felt the same way.
Davis handed me an apple and I couldn't help but blush the more but Caleb shoved his hand away causing the apple to fall.
"She doesn't need anything, i'd provide it all!"
"But i'm handing her what you got?" Davis replied, his smile didn't seem to fade. Was he always a happy person?
His father beckoned on everyone to carry their wine glass as it seems we'd be having a toss.
Only Caleb seems absent as from the looks of it, he was in a deep thought.
Their father cleared his throat and said;
"Let's give a toast to this family union and welcome amaris who would be joining..."
"I want everyone out" he cuts in boiling with fury, his voice resounded thunderously in my ears.
