Chapter 98: The Crash

Amaris POV

"Nothing, I wouldn't want to lose you" he defended, his face brightens as he covered me in his arms not releasing me.

His words made my heart flutter but this was a panicking state. I couldn't trust him because he claimed we'd die together.

I sense he was tensed too as the seat we sat on moves back a bit. My team mates tumbled on each other, trying to hold something.

"I think we're gonna crash aurelia" he declared with grief in his eyes.

I was stunned to speak as my heart raced fast.

Caleb was trying every possible means to fend off the objects pulling out of the jet from hitting me.

I hear the sound of the plane being ripped apart by G-forces and the sound of the wind blowing at the end.

The sound of electrical system reactivation tone on cvr, system switches on.

The pilot repeats;

"Ladies and gentlemen we have had a flight control problem up front here we're workin it uh, stay calm"

That was a lie! I knew the pilot was trying to keep us calm but it wasn't working. I felt I was summersault in this plane.

I just didn't know how adnar was doing it but he had managed to get me seated and a strong burning smell like melting plastic or rubber hits my nose.

Everything was tumbling over us as a loud fuse blast. Caleb fasten the seatbelt on me as he tried to fit me inside a parachute suit.

He was concerned about my survival when few minutes ago, I intended on killing him.

Did he really mean it when he flirtly said he has fallen with his killer? No, I should snap out of it, I've got a husband and a kid.

A part of the fuselage which, holds all the pieces together, opposite us pulled out and a vast wind dragged out my bodyguards who were leaning on that part for support.

I screamed as adnar held my hand. The steward who tried to save herself by holding a part of the slat below that area got hit by a metal.

My eyes witnesses their death which was landing. The aircraft structures were collapsing and the impact with the airframe were terrifying.

The oxygen pressure was much high and I heard the bloody screech of the pilot over the megaphone.

He was screaming midday midday.

Caleb quickly, rolled my face to stare at him. I couldn't breath as my head was occupied by the gothic scene.

"Look at me, you can do this" he assured as I saw the airfoil blaring with fire.

The cosswinds affected the aircraft's stability and control. Yet, caleb just wanted my eyes focused on him, like he'd ease the tension with that.

"You've got to jump!" He said holding on to the arm of his seat while I gasped for air.

In a few seconds, the plane would burn. We were at the back-middle seats close to the tail.

I was scared of heights and it made me cry. I want to abort the mission.

To worsen it, I couldn't even fly a parachute!

I promised myself not to shed tears in front of any man but I was doing that it front of adnar.

He was holding my hand and gave me the warmth smile ever. Even in the face of death, he showed no sense of fear.

My heart stopped beating for a moment and for the first time in a long while, I was scared for him.

"Amaris hey, fly" he instructed with a piteous gaze at me. His voice had a way of jerking me back to reality.

"You've got this, you told me you want to fly so high, this is your chance"

Shit! Did he just read the lines from the letters I secretly drop at his door back then?

It only means he knew me.

"No, caleb what about you!" I cried shivering and feeling terrible.

We were the only ones left in this plane sitting adjacent each other. He travelled his hand around my waist as he unbutton the seatbelt.

"Please caleb stay with me...argh!"

I was blown away by the wind causing me to let go of his hand before I could call out to him.

The surging waves in the sky blast on my face as I float aimlessly.

I kept screaming hopelessly with the thoughts of dying already.

The last memory of him was his passionate eyes fazed at me as I stretched my hand.

His voice still rings in my head regarding the instructions of flying a parachute.

Hastily, I unfastened the parachute when I had gotten low and quickly, it's balloons pop up, swaying me steadily close to the ground.

The next sound I heard was a loud crash and the roaring sea waves.

I shut my eyes and let the wind take control of my landing.

***

I spur those eyes open, the smell of damp air hits my nose. I almost retched.

My body aches as I winced. I scrolled around and found myself stucked in the branches of a tree.

Fatigued, I tried to take out the fragment of the parachute on me. I was bruised and it took a while for me to discover what had happened.

I survived! Slowly and with so much pain, I crawl down from the tree, pacing through the rough and creepy jungle.

I headed towards where a burning smell came from. My heart pumps more blood inside me.

I found myself at a flowing river, the chirping sound of birds were loud.

The sight was gothic as I shook. I found the plane, a part, buried in the river.

Tears brew up in my eyes as I called out to adnar. He must be gone. Didn't I want him dead? Why was my heart broken, like I lost a part of me?

Then I found him, across the river, laying down. I heaved a softly and raced towards him.

He had no parachute and that was strange. How did he survive the crash? Not wanting to get confused, I hastily swam in the toppling and cold water to get to him.

When I got to him, I sat in the sand where he laid and touched him. He wasn't moving, despite the pressure I applied.
