Chapter 178: Meeting his parents
Mia's POV
As though waiting me wait a long hour wasn't enough, he kept frustrating me with lines to say.
I never wanted this, I never bargained for this and here I am sitting in a fancy yacht with him.
It was more like a feast here and I was so uncomfortable staring at the face of my friend's deceased fiance who came back to life.
Not even the uplifting music played by the violist here made me at peace. I felt like jumping into the sea and being forgotten.
I couldn't even touch the meal even though I was getting hungry now, that's because i'm not myself.
Even my outfit, I had to change it and wear in something more luxurious. I'm sure I'd keep this dress though.
His eyes were on his tab, fortunately, he hasn't noticed me yet or my soul would have left my body.
"Have the memorized your line?" He finally spoke breaking the long silence between us.
I lowered my eyes at the meal served before me. Whenever he talks, I suddenly have cravings and I'd want to eat.
I took a fork to eat up the spaghetti and meatballs in front of me.
"I am better at this" I mused rolling the fork on the spaghetti and slurping it down.
He suddenly kept down his tab and then sighs at me.
"And you're a lousy eater too which makes you ridiculous" he took the napkin on the table and gave it to me.
"No people call it cute" I tamed as he had over the napkin for me to wipe my mouth while inhaling.
"What else do you do more than stalking?" He questioned and I slurp a mouth fool.
"I didn't stalk you, I swear it" I mused still finding it unbelievable that I was having this kind of conversation with him.
"Says a criminal when they're being caught..."
"Well you stalked me and literally dug everything about me, like seriously? Wasn't that breeching of rights?" I retorts interrupting his words and he let out a sided smile while taking his fork up.
Before him was a bowl of chicken chowder but I guess he'd want to eat something else.
"I provided reasons, you started" he calmly replied.
Now this feels like a competition and I was losing it.
"Argh, just why aren't your parents here?" I asked and then he stuck his fork in my plate, took a fork full of spaghetti and ate.
"They're old, you can't blame them"
"I hope they don't like me so that this can be done for"
"Me too, that way they'd stop bothering me to get someone" he muttered, his voice choked because of the spaghetti and I quickly handed him a glass of water.
I forgot, he had one in front of him but he took mine and gulped down while exhaling.
His eyes locked with mine but I quickly looked away.
"So that means I should screw this up then?" I muttered quite excited because this is what I'm good in.
"You're smiling and that's weird" he said in between his teeth and tried to take another fork full of spaghetti but I pushed the plate closer to mine and frown at him.
"At least I don't get to see you after today, Mr stalker"
"I hope so miss stalker" he snapped and dropped his fork while pouring himself a glass of wine.
"What's your mom like?" I questioned knowing that mothers are the ones with the problem.
I just need to know what she hates.
"Well, worrisome, possessive and might actual kill you if you stress me too much" he reports twirling his glass cup and staring at me in the eyes.
I was still, suddenly lost in trance and then chuckled while trying to control myself.
"You have a crazy mom, I'm sorry to say" I whispered and he folded his lips, not offended by that but just grimanced.
"How about yours?" He asked starting up a conversation. His eyes were on me as though searching for the benefit of doubts on my face.
"Same, I mean she controls my life"
"Yeah, it's she who is so bent on me getting married like she's dying" he interjected placing a serious face and placing the glass cup on the table.
I rolled my eyes as this was getting interesting. It seems all mothers are the same and they kind of feel bossy over their kids.
"Exactly and they push you further to a life you never wish for"
"And they are home wreckers" we chorused and then chuckled but stopped almost immediately as it was suddenly awkward.
I almost said a word when someone from behind cleared his throat.
"I guess you found yourself a match" a crook voice muttered and I widened my eyes.
Hastily i stood up from where I sat and turned around to meet two couple walking side by side and then an old man who made that comment, his voice was crook.
They had the brightest look ever and even if it were a pretence, no one would fall for it.
I smiled back, moving from my seat to assist the old man to his chair. He seems excited by this act.
What am I doing? I'm meant to ruin this.
I returned to the couple to greet them and the woman who I assume to be his mother embraced me.
"You look more beautiful in person" she complimented and when she terminated the hug, she winked at me and took her seat.
"Oh look at my honey, when has he laughed this much?" She furthers and I threw my gaze at Caleb who was still seated welcoming his parent.
His father let out a sided smile and then pat me on the shoulder blade.
"I like your personality already"
No please don't.
"It's an honor to meet you in person sir, I am a fan" I commented and he chuckled while walking pass me.
I returned to my chair and sat properly, daring not to look at Caleb because he must be made at me.
"You guys delayed and she hates it when you keep her waiting..."
"No, it's okay, something must have come up, they have all the time to themselves besides, today is for them not us"
I felt like slapping myself for saying that line. Why is my good girl personality coming in.
I knew this would put me in trouble someday, possibly my years working in a precinct had taught me respect to elders.
Caleb cleared his throat and adjusted his neck tie. When I met his gaze, it was scorching hot and my skin was melting.
"Isn't she so sweet" his mother says and I faked a smile that looked like a painful grimance.
