Chapter 91: The Visit

Amaris POV

"Mom, i'm getting married" he said in a low husky tone and my heart was flustered as I drew closer, took a stool to sit beside him.

The woman last night must be his stepmom. Now I see why he was quite different with her.

Nevertheless, I could see she was trying to be warm and nice towards him. Possibly there's a story attached to them.

"She's amaris, I hope you'd like her"

He wasn't joking about the wedding. The woman wasn't responding and I felt miserable for him.

"Thank you for believing in me" he pressed on and this was the first I noticed he was respectful.

His voice felt it got choked with tears and he was trying to hide it. His eyes were heavy and I placed my palm on his.

"Do you care to tell about her?" I whispered to him and he let out a wry smile.

"She's my nanny amaris and..." He paused and heaved a sigh, finding it difficult to complete his statement.

"Can we not talk about that now?" He said avoiding the question. His body had turned red and his eyes were no different.

We sat for a while there, taking care of her, having no words to say but just hoping that she opens her eyes soon.

After spending a while, he drove me back to his villa while he left for the office. I didn't even get a chance to console him because he seem as though he didn't want it.

Before he left, I pestered him to come along but he claims my ankle hurts and he wouldn't want to hear I got paralyzed a day to the wedding.

Oh God, I wasn't ready for a wedding, I believed he said that just to prove something to Kian but it's serious.

Marriage isn't something one rushes into, a lot of things has to be put in consideration.

A few minutes while he left, I heard the doorbell ring, it was certainly Caleb, he must have forgotten something important.

Hastily, I rushed to get the door open, wanting to see his face. I must be shameless after begging him last night to let me go.

The door was free and I could escape yet I chose to stay.

I spur the door open, maintaining a cold look which switches as I narrowed my gaze at the person who stood by the door.

"Hello sister in law"

Davis! I almost screamed his name. I could see he was holding some bundles of roses and some gifts.

My breath dried up and I was speechless as though it was a dream that Davis

"I'd need some little help here" he said as he seen exhausted and I quickly tried to aid.

"Good afternoon" I greeted with a bright smile as he walked in.

"Thanks" he responded pacing towards the dinning as he placed the gifts on the table and then handed me over the roses.

"I hope I ain't too late for the celebration" he questioned as I took the roses from him and then exhaled deeply.

"It's beautiful" I complimented inhaling the sweet scent of the roses. I'd keep them properly and make them grow not wither.

"I'm flattered" he replied pacing towards the fridge to get a bottle water.

I blushed, taking peeking at the gift.

"Let me guess, the big guy is at work" he pressed on handing me a bottle water too as he gulp his and sigh.

I nodded intrigued to see the gifts he got.

He sat adjacent me, shook his hair and then strain his shoulders.

"Do you love amaris?" He questioned as his eyes settled on me. I exhaled distracted by what I intended to do which was opening the package.

I scoffed at me.

"Don't let anyone force you into becoming theirs amaris, I can help you if you wish" he said like a joker and I kissed my teeth.

Why can't I give a reply when asked such? Do I love Caleb. I tried to feel my heartbeat whenever his name is called.

"Why do you want to help me? Don't you want your brother's happiness?" I whispered staring at him as he smiled again.

"Do you think he's happy with you, there were many more women before you and after you amaris" he pointed out and I lost my breath, folded my fist and gulp.

He must be cheating, just like the secretary before me.

He gulped the table water again and sigh while scruntizing around.

"I'm sorry for saying that, I just don't want you to be a victim" he added and I stared at him with probing eyes, feeling troubled.

How will he help me? It's just a day to the supposed wedding.

"I guess you must have heard some of the ladies died too" he added avoiding my gaze and I freaked out where I sat.

I only heard rumors but I just didn't know if it were true. He must have been abusive on them that they ended up in their early grave.

I didn't even need to ask him, I could tell already and that was traumatizing. Then the woman in the hospital, what really happened to her?

Caleb didn't tell me about that as it was obvious he was hiding something. Only her really knows Caleb.

"Your parent, are they real, I mean are they his biological parent?" I asked switching from the initial discussion as his family's identity matters first.

"He severe ties from us, so it hard to believe he has a family" Davis replied not really interested in the questions I was asking.

"Should I go on?" He asked jolting me back to realize and I nodded. My heart thunders, my chest felt heavy and I couldn't think of anything except the suggestion Davis was coming up with.

"It simple amaris, just follow the rules I set and..."

"What?" I pressed on as he was placing me in suspense. What rules?
