Chapter 26: Learning New Skill
The following day, Kendra had recovered, but she still felt panic when she thought about what happened yesterday. If it were not for Lendon's help, the man wouldn't have let her go. As for the 10 thousand dollars that Lendon had paid that man, added worry to Kendra. Though Lendon didn't mention it, she must pay him back. What was worse, she also broke Lendon's Porsche. A sudden headache came to her.
"What should I do?" Kendra screamed inside the bathroom. It seemed that she owed Lendon more and more every day. When could she leave here?
"Miss Miller." A maidservant called her from outside.
It was the weekend, and Kendra needed to work.
Kendra washed her face and walked out of the bathroom.
"Miss Miller, Doc Alexis wants you." The maidservant gave her a gentle smile.
"He wants me?" Kendra asked strangely. Alexis hadn't called her for a long time.
"Yeah, he told me to inform you to come into his lab,"
Without questioning more, she nodded. Kendra walked to the lab with her, and she felt nervous. A few thoughts run through her mind.
Since Alexis lied to her last time, Kendra was not willing to trust him anymore. What did he want this time?
Kendra walked into the lab and saw Alexis doing an experiment with a mask on.
"What do you need, Alexis?" Kendra asked directly.
Alexis stopped his experiment and took his gloves off. He pointed at the sofa and told Kendra to sit down.
"Actually, I ask you here to do a test." Alexis gave Kendra a glass of water, signaled his hand to let her drink it.
"A test? Is it about Lendon's poison?" She didn't hide her worry. She should be on guard.
"Yes." Alexis simply nodded and said, "I haven't apologized to you about what happened last full moon night. Curtis and I didn't mean to lie to you. But Lendon is more dangerous than I think, so I don't have a choice. I hope you can understand us. We wanted him to get cured sooner,"
It was a late apology, but Kendra couldn't change anything, so she didn't want to haggle over.
"It's already past, but…." Kendra hesitated.
"But what?" Looking at her pale face, Alexis tried to calm her by giving a gentle smile.
"If Lendon can't be healed, will I need to stay here forever?" Kendra abruptly asked. This was the most important question that Kendra cared about. She was afraid that even if she paid all the debt, Lendon still wouldn't set her free.
"No." Alexis smiled and said, "You can restrain his poison and may be able to heal him. He will be healed. If not…"
"What will happen?" Kendra interrupted and stared at Alexis nervously.
"You want to leave here so badly? You hated him, don't you?" Alexis threw a question that makes her feel awkward.
"Why don't I?" Worriedly, she returned another question to him. She had her own goal in life and wanted her freedom. She wanted to live her own life. Why would she want to stay here?
Alexis raised his eyebrows and kept silent.
"You haven't told me yet. Alexis, I want to leave here," Kendra gave a sad face.
"If he can't be healed, it means that you are useless." A short explanation came out from him.
It meant that no matter if Lendon couldn't be healed or be healed, Kendra could finally be free. Realizing it, Kendra felt extremely excited. "So I can leave even if I can't pay my debt?" She asked.
Alexis thought for a while and said, "We can assume that way. Look, Lendon has a lot of struggles, maybe one day he will explain it to you,"
"Alexis, I told you I wanted my freedom. Please stop making me feel guilty, whatever his struggle is none of my business," Kendra insisted. She had been working hard these days, and this good news makes her feel so relax. She didn't need to be bothered by earning money. As long as Lendon would be fine, she could leave this cage.
"Alexis, quickly. What do you want to test?" Kendra urged.
Alexis stared at Kendra and wondered if she misunderstood him. Generally, Lendon would let her go, but…
"Quick." Kendra pushed Alexis and said.
"Follow me." Defeated by her excitement, Alexis had to do his task.
After Kendra walked out of Alexis's lab, it was already noon.
Alexis told Curtis to let Kendra take a break, so Kendra just watched TV in the living room boringly. It was around 3 pm. Kendra didn't want to sleep, so she wanted to do something.
She went to the kitchen immediately. There were only some maidservants and cooks in the kitchen. Seeing Kendra coming, they all greeted her.
Kendra looked around and walked to the head chef. "Do you know how to make Chinese cakes?" She happily asked.
The head chef was from China, but he stayed in England for three years, so he knew about Chinese food well.
"You want some cakes, Miss Miller? But why should it be a Chinese cake?" Looking at her weirdly, the chef asked.
"I want to learn how to make it." Kendra gave a sweet smile, making her look so pretty.
"Learn? Really?" The head chef asked surprisingly. He couldn't figure out why this woman suddenly wanted to make a cake.
"Yes, I am free today, so I want to learn a new skill," Kendra said sincerely.
"Okay, put an apron on. And follow me," The chef nodded and urged her.
"Thank you." Kendra quickly went to prepare herself.
Kendra had to admit that Lendon's head chef was excellent. He was good at cooking food from all countries. She stayed in the kitchen and learned from the chef during the whole afternoon.
"Miss Miller, you are smart." The chef saw Kendra's work and admired it.
"Will Mr. Martin like it?" Kendra held a rabbit cake that she had done.
The chef didn't know how to answer and hesitated. He couldn't express his thoughts because he realized that Mr. Martin might be annoyed seeing the cake design.
"Don't be nervous. I just want to thank him. If he didn't like it, I would eat it myself." Kendra smiled and explained. She knew clearly how picky Lendon was. If he didn't accept it, it would be fine for her.
"Hmm… I guess Mr. Martin will like it," He lied.
An hour later, as Lendon walked into the living room, he smelled something sweet. It aroused his curiosity.
"Curtis." Lendon took his coat off and called his butler.
"My Lord," Curtis walked to Lendon and bowed his head.
"What's the smell?" Lendon asked.
"It's a cake." Curtis said, "Miss Miller is learning to make a cake."
Lendon smiled and walked to the kitchen excitedly.
At that time, Kendra was opening the oven. She was so excited.
"Come to help me," Kendra called the chef. She put her cakes on the table and said, "It must be delicious!"
"Yes, I think so. You are gifted." The chef admitted.
Kendra smiled and tried one of her cakes. Then she sighed delightedly.
Lendon stood outside the kitchen and stared at Kendra. Her smile somehow touched Lendon's heart. It felt so strange. Having an apron on, Kendra looked pretty this time, her smile was attractive. Lendon couldn't even take his eyes off her.
Kendra turned around and found Lendon staring at her. She was shocked and screamed.
"Do I look horrible?" Lendon glared at Kendra, walking towards her.
"No." Kendra shook her head, afraid to offend this man.
"You made them?" Lendon walked to the table, shock was written on his handsome face while looking at those freshly baked cakes.
