Chapter 53: I Won't Love Her
Looking at Michael, suddenly she felt awkward. Kendra didn't expect that Michael would be here. She forced herself to give a gnarly smile. "I don't know you are here." She said, avoiding his eyes.
"Why are you here?" Michael asked and also felt surprised.
"I come here to help Bianca choose her dress." Kendra smiled and said, "Congratulations! You are going to be engaged."
Michael couldn't smile at all. Instead, he stared at Kendra and asked, "Can we talk?"
"With me?" Kendra was surprised by his words.
"I can explain," Michael said. He grabbed Kendra's arm and led her out.
Kendra struggled and faintly said, "What are you doing? If Bianca saw us together, she will be bothered." Michael was going to engage with Bianca, so she should stay away from him.
Michael didn't say a word, nor did he let go of Kendra's arm. As they walked to a corner, Michael loosened his grip and said, "I just need a few minutes."
"What do you want to say?" Kendra gazed at him, waiting for his response.
"I don't want this engagement." Michael started, he felt so tense.
Kendra frowned her eyebrow as she saw his hesitation.
"My family business is facing a financial crisis recently. That's why I agree to marry Bianca. We need money from your father. But it's just an engagement. It won't last long." Michael explained.
No wonder Michael's family agreed to this engagement so quickly. They had trouble now. But why did Michael tell her? What did he mean that this engagement wouldn't last long? Kendra felt so confused, so she asked, "So you just pretend to agree to marry Bianca?"
"Yes." Michael confessed, "When my father solves his problem, I will dissolve the engagement,"
"What?" Kendra looked at Michael unbelievably and asked, "Do you know how much hurt you can bring to Bianca?"
"But I don't want to marry her." Michael stared at Kendra, wearing a serious face, "I said that you would be my wife."
Kendra was lost for words. How could Michael be like this? What about her sister?
"I have my reasons. But it would help if you trust me. I will marry you." Michael held Kendra's shoulders and promised her.
Kendra felt so ridiculous. She pushed him away and asked coldly, "Why? Why me? We just knew each other for months. So why do you want me?"
"I..." Michael hesitated and felt upset. But, no, he couldn't tell Kendra the truth right now. It was not the right time yet.
"Never mind. I am not interested." Kendra waved her hand and said, "If you hurt Bianca, I won't let you go."
"Do you think she will be happy if she marries me under this condition?" Michael asked helplessly, "I won't love her. Won't she be hurt if she needs to live with a man who won't love her at all?"
Kendra was speechless. Surely, Bianca wouldn't be happy. However, her marriage with Michael was all for the family's interest.
"You will understand once I will explain it later," Michael said and walked away.
Kendra frowned and stared at Michael's back.
Bianca came out from the fitting room and didn't see Kendra. So she asked the assistant if she saw Kendra.
"Miss Miller left with Mr. Baker." The assistant said.
Bianca frowned. She feels upset knowing that Kendra had talked to Michael again.
"Bianca, let me see." Kendra went back and said, "This dress looks good."
"I think so." Bianca glanced at herself in front of the mirror, pretending she's okay. Then casually, she asked her, "Where did you go?"
"I just walked around." Kendra lied.
"By the way, I saw you with Duke Lendon walking together last time. Do you know him?" Bianca smiled and asked.
Kendra was shocked! Bianca saw them! How should she explain?
"What's up, Kendra?" Bianca noticed Kendra's uncomfortable reaction.
"Nothing." Kendra looked away, avoiding her sister's question.
At that time, an assistant walked to them and said, "Miss Miller, Mr. Baker has left."
"What?" Bianca couldn't believe it.
"Yes. Mr. Baker said that he had to deal with some emergency situation." The assistant informed her.
Bianca felt embarrassed hearing that Michael left her without words.
"It's okay. I will be with you. He must be busy." Kendra tried to comfort her sister.
"Okay." Bianca nodded but deep inside, she was hurt.
Bianca tried on many dresses just to comfort herself. A few hours passed, someone called Kendra and hung up quickly.
"Bianca, it's been late. I have to go." Kendra said. She had been out for a long time. If Lendon knew she sneaked out, she would be doomed. She had to go back now.
"Dad and mom will come later. You should have dinner with us." Bianca tried to stop her.
"No, I really need to go." Kendra refused. She really didn't want to meet her parents now, let alone had dinner together.
"Kendra..."
As Bianca wanted to say something else, Robert and Marga walked into the shop.
Fine, she couldn't avoid them now. Kendra patted Bianca's shoulder and said, "Bye, Bianca. I will call you later." She wanted to leave here immediately.
As Kendra passed Robert by, he suddenly said, "Wait."
"What's up?" Kendra stopped walking and turned to him.
"Why are you here?" Robert gave a disdainful look.
"Dad, I ask Kendra to come here," Bianca walked to them and explained.
"Oh my god. How dare you appear again?" Marga glanced at Kendra and sneered.
"Marga, don't go too far." Kendra glared at her stepmother and warned, "I haven't got your explanation for the previous rumor you've created,"
"How dare you accuse me?" Marga felt angry and shouted.
"Since you are here today, I have something to say." Robert quickly meddled, "Follow me." He didn't know what happened days before, so he didn't ask more.
Kendra didn't want to go with Robert, but she had no reason to refuse.
There was a cafe beside the shop. Robert and Kendra chose a private table and sat down. They ordered a cup of coffee. Kendra couldn't recall when she went out to have coffee with Robert last time.
"How are you been lately?" Robert asked.
Hearing Robert's question, Kendra felt so heartbroken. How long had it been since Robert cared about her last time? Since her mother passed away, Robert had never taken responsibility as a father. He never asked her how she was.
"I am fine." Kendra lowered her head and answered.
"I need to tell you something." Robert stared at Kendra and said seriously, "Bianca is going to engage with Michael. It was supposed to be you. But I guess you know why you are being replaced."
Kendra stopped mawkishness immediately.
"It took me a lot of effort to make this engagement happen. I hope you won't ruin it. Or, I won't let you go." Robert warned her.
Was this man her dad? Kendra smiled bitterly and said, "So you brought me here for that reason? Wanting to tell that I am not your daughter anymore and I shouldn't ruin your daughter's engagement." How ridiculous! Why did Robert hurt her again and again? Why did he remind her that she shouldn't have any thoughts of marrying Michael?
"I raised you up. So even if I kicked you out, you owe me. It's me who brought you up in this world, remember that," Robert said arrogantly.
Kendra's eyes turned red. She didn't understand. Why did Robert change so much after her mom died? Where was the loving father before, who adored her so much during her childhood?
"Did you ever think about my mom?" Kendra stared at Robert and asked. She felt so desperate.
Robert suddenly got angry and said, "Don't mention her."
"Why?" Kendra asked confusedly, "Did she make a mistake? Why don't you want to talk about her? Why did you ignore me after she passed away?" In fact, Kendra had been thinking about these questions for years. Today she finally asked Robert. She wanted to know the answer. Why did he marry Marga so quickly after her mom died for a month?
"You don't need to know," Robert said.
"Did you even love my mom?" Kendra asked.
"It's pointless." Robert glared at Kendra and said. Then, he took a file out of his bag and said, "Sign it."
It was an agreement. It said that Kendra had nothing to do with the Miller family. She was not a member of this family anymore. And she should never keep in touch with Michael. Obviously, this agreement aimed to guarantee Bianca's interest.
Kendra stared at the agreement and felt so disheartened. She clenched her fists and controlled her emotion.
"Sign it." Robert said coldly and took a cheque out, "It's 2 million here. I bet that's enough. That's the best I can do."
"Why?" Kendra forced herself not to cry.
"What?"
"I want a reason," Kendra shouted loudly and glared at Robert. Finally, she threw her cup on the ground to let out her anger.
Everyone looked at them as Kendra shouted.
A waiter ran to Kendra and said, "I am sorry, but..."
"Go away!" Kendra glared at the waiter and said, "I will pay. Don't bother us."
The waiter left immediately.
"What are you doing?" Robert frowned and asked. He felt so embarrassed.
"I am also your daughter. Why do you prefer Bianca? Why didn't you care about me?" A painful question she threw at him. Tears streamed down her cheeks. Finally, she couldn't hold it anymore. She felt so sad as if thousands of knives were stabbing into her heart.
