Chapter 66: Salty Snacks

He glared at her, wanting to scold her heavily, but he chose to control his anger.
"Why me?" Kendra looked at Lendon and asked desperately.
"Because I like you mindlessly." His face softened, stared at Kendra thoughtfully.
Kendra felt helpless. Lendon seemed to be addicted to her. That was terrible. How could she run away from him later on?
"Quick! I want to have your snacks right now." Lendon suddenly changed their topic.
Kendra made snacks absentmindedly and put them into the oven. Ten minutes later, everything was ready.
Lendon picked a snack and tasted it happily. However, he stopped smiling soon. "What? Does it taste bad?" Kendra asked confusedly. She knew the snacks might taste bad. Anyway, she couldn't even concentrate just now.
"No, it tastes good." Lendon quickly responded and tried another one. The snacks were hot, but he ate elegantly.
Kendra felt doubtful and wanted to have a try.
"Don't eat them." Lendon stopped her when she forked a small amount.
"Why?" Kendra stared at him, confused.
"They are all mine." Lendon looked at her and uttered rudely, "Put it down. Don't touch my food."
"But I made them," Kendra argued and gulped one. However, the next second, she ran to the handwashing sink and vomited.
"I told you to put it down." Lendon followed Kendra and patted her back softly. He also gave a glass of water to her afterward.
Kendra rinsed her mouth and felt relieved as the salty taste faded.
"How could you eat it? It's too salty." She looked at Lendon and said unbelievably.
"I like them," Lendon shrugged and said casually. He even wanted to have more and return to the table.
"No! They taste too bad." Kendra quickly followed Lendon and pulled his hand to stop him from eating the remaining foods. She must mistake salt for sugar.
"Will you make some new snacks for me?" Lendon raised his head, looked at her face with so much expectation.
"I will do it," Kendra said and threw all the snacks into the dustbin. Then, as she wanted to put gloves on again, Lendon took her hands and led her out of the kitchen.
"Not now. As long as you are willing to make snacks for me, I will only eat yours." He gently uttered.
Looking at Lendon, Kendra felt a little complicated. Was Lendon serious? Lendon soon took Kendra to his office.
When they arrived, Kendra chose to read a book inside Lendon's office. People would come in from time to time to report to Lendon, and when they left, they would always glance at her. However, Kendra had gotten used to it. In fact, the staff of Lendon Group had accepted the truth that their boss would take a girl to work every day, but they can't resist their urge to throw a secret glance at her.
"Mr. Martin, we have begun preparing for the bid in LA. And the opening time for Martin Mall will be next Tuesday." A senior manager reported and waited for Lendon's reply.
"Okay, you can go now." Lendon signed his name and waved his hand to let him leave quickly.
"Noted, sir," The manager sprinted to the door.
Kendra just focused on her book as if there was no one around her.
After a while, Lendon took her book away. Kendra looked up and saw Lendon standing in front of her.
"What's up?" Kendra smiled at him.
"You are absorbed in reading," Lendon complained. Kendra didn't even bother to glance at him earlier.
Kendra wanted to take her book back but failed. She glanced at Lendon and said, "You go with your work. I don't want to disturb you."
"Say it again?" Lendon glared at Kendra, annoyed by her response.
"Should I stop you from working?" Kendra looked at Lendon innocently and pouted her lips.
Damn! He couldn't bear Kendra's eyesight. Lendon threw the book in front of Kendra and said, "Just read it!"
Kendra lowered her head and continued to read again.
"How the Steel Was Tempered? How old are you?" Lendon looked at the book and asked. He read the book when he was eight years old.
Kendra knew Lendon was mocking her. She looked at him and said nothing.
"What? Are you cursing me?" Lendon grabbed Kendra's chin and said, "I am too nice to you recently?"
Kendra was speechless. How could she tell him that she hated to be mocked?
She heaved a deep sigh, "Nothing, just do your task, will you?"
Lendon lowered his head and kissed her fiercely. Kendra's eyes suddenly wide-opened and just let him finish what he did. Then, once he was satisfied, he let go of her.
Lendon had to meet another client during lunchtime. "I will have a lunch meeting later. So I will ask someone to prepare your lunch," He said, gently caressing her face.
"No need to bother your staff to bring lunch for me. I will go to the canteen." Kendra said before Lendon left. She wanted to go out.
However, Lendon realized Kendra's real intention soon and said, "No, you can't leave here."
"Lendon." Kendra frowned helplessly.
"I said no." Lendon cocked his eyebrow and walked out of the office without giving her a chance to argue.
Since Kendra told Lendon that she wanted to leave him one day, Lendon wanted to take full control of her, which almost drove her crazy. She grabbed her hair annoyingly and wondered how she could make Lendon let go of her.
"Miss Miller, this is your lunch." Curtis walked in, bring food for her.
Kendra looked at her lunch and felt sad.
"Curtis, I feel like I am a prisoner here." She replied, looking at his every move.
"You don't have to be so pessimistic." Curtis glanced at her, smiled.
"I am just kidding." Kendra took back her words.
"You seem upset recently. What happened?" Curtis faced her after putting the food on the center table.
"Curtis, why me?" Kendra smiled bitterly, eyes filled with sadness.
"What?" Curtis asked confusedly.
"I have been thinking. Why can't Lendon like someone else? Why me?" Kendra held her chin and asked, "He is rich and handsome. So many women want to get close to him. So why did he chose me?"
"You don't need a reason to love someone, Miss Miller," Curtis explained, chuckling.
"Hmm, I am not rich like him! I felt not worthy for him," Kendra looked away, "And I don't like him. What should I do?"
"Why don't you like him? Mr. Martin is perfect. He had everything life has to offer," Curtis stared at her seriously.
"Curtis, did you love someone?" Kendra asked suddenly.
"Yes, I did," Curtis answered.
"Do you still love her?" Kendra fired another question.
"Yes."
"Haven't you meet someone better than her these years?"
"Yes, but..."
"Do you get me now?" Kendra interrupted Curtis and asked.
"When you love someone, there is no space for other people." Finally, Curtis realized Kendra's question and said.
"You are right." Kendra nodded, "Besides, Lendon and I come from a different world. I remembered you told me that Lendon would be the next descendant to the crown. I can never become a woman fit to be his lifetime partner." Lendon was born to be a duke. How could she be with him? Kendra wouldn't even have this delusion.
"But Mr. Martin barely changes his mind." Curtis shrugged his shoulders helplessly.
"Really?" Kendra asked curiously, "How long will he generally stay with the same woman?"
"Um, three months, I guess." Curtis thought for seconds and answered.
"Three months," Kendra repeated.
"What do you want to do, Miss Miller?" Curtis was confused when he heard her.
"I will make him hate me." Kendra said without hesitation, "Then I can leave sooner."
Curtis was speechless. He knew clearly that Kendra was different from other women. Lendon didn't treat her as a sex partner. So Kendra's plan would fail.
After lunch, Kendra checked Lendon's desk before he came back and found an important file. She sat on his chair and deliberately painted on it, feeling damn good. Soon, Lendon came back with his secretary, who was reporting the meeting summary. Suddenly, Lendon halted his pace and glanced at her. "What are you doing?" He asked.
"I am painting something." Kendra showed the file to Lendon. She painted Lendon in the cartoon version. One was angry, one was sad, and one was laughing.
"What do you think? I can't find black paper, so I just used your file." Kendra smiled and said. She was waiting for Lendon to be angry.
"Good." Lendon smiled and walked to her.
What? Kendra couldn't believe her ears.
"They look good." Lendon looked at Kendra's painting and admired it.
The secretary saw the file, and her face turned pale immediately. "Mr. Martin, this is the bid..." She reminded him.
"I know." Lendon glanced at the secretary and said, "Tell them to make a new one."
"What?"
"Can't you hear me?" Lendon asked coldly.
"No. I will tell them right now." The secretary said and walked out of the office in a hurry. Did Mr. Martin lose his mind? Miss Miller ruined such an important file, and how could he be so calm?
Let alone Lendon's secretary, even Kendra felt surprised. She looked at Lendon unbelievably and asked, "I ruined your file. How can you..."
"It's fine," Lendon smiled and said, "You painted me, that's what matters most!" Wherever Kendra painted, she thought about him. That was enough.
Kendra rubbed her forehead and felt helpless.
Lendon would glance at Kendra's painting every few minutes and smile with satisfaction during the whole afternoon.
If she could, Kendra would grab the letter opener and cut Lendon's face.
Within an hour, the whole company knew that Kendra ruined their bidding document.
When Lendon and Kendra left the building at dusk, everyone glared at Kendra secretly. They had to work overtime because of her.
Kendra felt so annoyed. Who knew Lendon didn't get mad at all? She also felt strange.
