Chapter 33: Dress Her Up

She was heartbroken at this moment to pay attention to anybody else. Kendra didn't bother to raise her head. Why are people so mean to her? She hadn't done anything wrong to others. She felt aggrieved and can't help but sulk.
The man walked to Kendra and also squatted. "Are you okay?" He asked worriedly.
"Don't come here." Kendra covered her face and cried. She didn't want anyone to see her being so weak. She always appeared tough despite suffering for a very long time. No one is with her for many years, even her own father despised her.
"Don't worry. I will help you." The man's gentle voice came again, and even without looking at him, Kendra knew it was Michael.
Looking at Kendra, Michael felt heartbroken, too; squatting down, he patted Kendra's back softly and said, "It's not a big deal. I believe you. They just want to hurt you. You're innocent and done nothing wrong,"
After crying for a long time, Kendra got tired. She looked up slowly with her swollen and bloodshot eyes. There was some hair on her face, making her look poor and helpless. Her entire face appeared messy, and anybody that see her like this would feel pity.
Michael wiped Kendra's tears gently and combed her hair with his fingers. "Look at you. You don't look pretty now." He joked, trying to ease her sour feelings.
Kendra turned away and rubbed her face awkwardly. "What are you doing here?"
Michael gave her a soft chuckle, "I have important things to do here today. And when I arrived, I saw the malicious post about you. I tried to look for you inside the campus, but you're not around. I didn't expect that I would see you in this hidden place, crying like a baby. I hope you're okay now." Michael smiled and said. In fact, he was on his way to see a client when he saw the post. He canceled the meeting and went to find Kendra immediately. It took him some time to find her.
"Thank you. I will be okay, don't worry," Kendra said and stood up immediately. She wanted to leave, but she suddenly staggered and almost fell to the ground.
"Are you okay?" Michael managed to grab Kendra's arm immediately. He was worried about her, seeing her sadness.
"Really, I am fine. Please let me go," Kendra pushed Michael away and struggled to break free from his grasp. She lowered her head embarrassedly. She must have squatted for too long that numbed her knees, she hadn't kept her balance when she stood up just now. Kendra walked to a tree and leaned against it.
Michael walked to her and asked, "What are you going to do? I heard that your recommendation had been affected,"
"I don't know. I will figure it out later," She said seriously, mind wandering. Right now, her mind was messy, can't think of the right thing to do to prove her innocence.
"Do you need my help?" Michael stared at Kendra and asked earnestly. He wanted to offer her some help, after all, she's still his fiancée, even Kendra clearly refused him earlier.
Kendra looked at Michael and shook her head. "No, it is not necessary." She refused. Marga already misunderstood her relationship with Michael, and she didn't want to make any trouble.
Michael said nothing. He knew that Kendra would not accept his help.
The atmosphere between them suddenly became embarrassing. No one dares to talk for a few seconds.
Sober, Kendra smiled and said, "I have to go now." She walked away immediately without giving a second glance at him.
Looking at Kendra's back, Michael frowned and suddenly ran to Kendra. "Kendra, can you tell me why you refuse my help?" He asked.
Kendra looked at Michael confusedly. She couldn't understand why Michael still followed her even though she had clearly rejected his offer.
"Was it because of your stepmother or Bianca?" Michael guessed. He actually asked his mother about Kendra's family, so he assumed that Kendra didn't want to get close to him because of her family.
Kendra took a deep breath, looked at him seriously, "Since you know it, please stay away from me." She walked past Michael and left soon. She had no intention of spending time with him discussing a nonsense matter.
Michael never expected that his existence would bring trouble to Kendra. Her words stabbed into his heart like knives. Michael took a deep breath and tried to calm down. The most important thing now was to figure out who spread the rumor. Thinking about it, Michael called his secretary.
***
"Mr. Martin, you have a regular meeting at 3 pm. You have an appointment with the CEO of Universe Group at 5 pm, and you need to attend the celebration of Universe Group by 8 pm. It has been 30 years since the group was founded." Lendon's secretary narrated while looking at some files.
Lendon stood in front of the French window and looking at the beautiful scenery surrounding his magnificent building. He waved his hands and told his secretary to leave. After a while, Lendon turned around and looked around his office. Suddenly, he thought of Kendra.
"Curtis," Lendon called him.
"Yes, sir," Curtis answered.
"Do you think my office is too big?" Lendon raised his eyebrow and asked.
"What?" Curtis was shocked by his question. Mr. Martin never asks this kind of question before. What happened today? What was he thinking right now?
"You know, my job is kind of boring. Anyone will feel dull when facing such a big office alone, right?" He talked again, hands thrust on his pocket.
"Maybe." Curtis nodded and answered with uncertainty. He also can't understand why his lord has been so different lately. From Curtis's perspective, Lendon has done several weird things recently.
Lendon suddenly smiled, but his smile seemed a little weird.
Curtis looked at him, and his thoughts run wild.
"If someone can serve you tea and snacks when you work and even massage you if you want, will you feel good?" Lendon sat down and asked. He tapped on the desk from time to time and sounded cunning.
"Yes." Curtis nodded and said, though he felt strange.
"Do you think Kendra is suitable for serving me?" Lendon blurted out.
Curtis finally realized. Mr. Martin was thinking about Miss Miller. That woman was too stubborn to tame, he thought.
"What are you thinking, sir?" Curtis couldn't help but ask again. He got a hint of what Lendon wanted to do, but still, he chose to hear it from him.
"Let her come to my office to serve me." Lendon smiled cunningly.
Curtis felt relieved. It was so lucky that he didn't say no just now. Obviously, Mr. Martin had made up his mind. He just needed an excuse to make it happen.
"But sir, Miss Miller has to go to school." Curtis reminded him.
"She will have a vacation in a month. Let her come then." Lendon thought for a while and said. He seemed so determined to let Kendra stay with him often.
Curtis could only nod and say yes.
"Right, we have to attend a party tonight. Pick her up now and dress her well. Make her look stunning," Lendon added.
"Do you want to take Miss Miller with you tonight?" Curtis couldn't believe his lord will bring Kendra along with him to participate in a party. Mr. Martin never brought his partner before, it must be Miss Miller was different.
"Yes, do it now." Lendon waved his hand to let him leave.
"Yes, sir." Nodding, Curtis disappeared soon.
Lendon leaned his back against the soft swivel chair and felt happy. He was going to put a table in front of him so that he could see Kendra anytime. Besides, he could touch her whenever he wanted.
It was 4 pm. Kendra walked to a grove on her campus and leaned against a tree. She had stayed here for the whole afternoon. For more than 20 years, Kendra had never felt so desperate. She had been looking up to the sky in a daze for hours. She couldn't pull herself away from sorrow at all. The voice of that boy who promised her a few years ago played on her mind again and again. I will find you one day, and I will protect you. I will be the most powerful man in the world at that time and would be your hero," Liar, you said you would come back to find me, but you didn't do it. She sulked again.
Her phone had been ringing, but Kendra didn't hear it because she'd been drowning in her thoughts. Kendra suddenly noticed the sun was going down, and she finally came back to reality.
Her phone was ringing again. Kendra looked at it and saw Curtis was calling.
"Hello," Kendra answered the phone, voice a bit hoarse.
"Are you okay, Miss Miller? Where are you?" Curtis asked immediately upon hearing her broken voice. He sounded worried.
"I am fine. I am at school." Kendra replied.
"Okay, you scared the hell out of me." Curtis felt relieved after hearing her answer.
Kendra checked her phone and found Curtis had called her more than 30 times.
"I am sorry, Curtis. I didn't hear my phone ringing." Kendra apologized immediately, "What's up?"
"Mr. Martin wants you to attend a party with him tonight. I need to make you prepared. Where are you now?" Curtis asks hurriedly.
"Okay," Kendra said and sent her specific location to Curtis. Though she was exhausted, she couldn't refuse Lendon.
Curtis found Kendra within 10 minutes.
On their way, Kendra fell silent, eyes were swollen, and looked away in the car window.
Curtis glanced at her and felt strange. "Is anything wrong, Miss Miller?" He summoned the courage to ask her.
"Nothing, Curtis," Kendra shook her head and said.
"You seem tired. If you have some trouble, Mr. Martin will definitely help you." Curtis reminded her.
Ask for Lendon's help? In fact, Kendra thought about it. But there was no free help in this world. Lendon was powerful, but Kendra didn't want to owe him more because she wanted to leave soon once she paid all her debt.
"I am fine. Thank you for asking." She gave a reassuring smile.
Curtis nodded and stopped asking.
After a while, they arrived at a high-class studio. As soon as Kendra walked in, a fashionable stylist helped her change her entire look.
An hour later, it was going dark. Curtis sent Kendra to Martin Group at half-past seven.
