Chapter 79: How Absurd Is That?
Anne was worried about seeing Kendra like this.
Kendra smiled and nodded. She had some porridge and asked confusedly. "It is strange. I just looked at the mirror and found there is a scar around my neck. How did this happen?"
Hearing Kendra's words, a strange look came over Anne's face immediately. She felt restless and looked away.
Kendra seemed to notice something and asked, "Ann, what's up?"
"Miss Miller, I don't know if I should tell you something." Anne hesitated. She was not sure if she should say that.
"It's fine. What is it?" Kendra tried to convince Anne.
"Your scar is…." Anne almost told Kendra the truth.
"You can get out now." Lendon suddenly appeared that startled them.
Anne was scared as she turned around to look at Lendon.
Lendon glanced at Anne and walked to Kendra.
Anne stood up immediately and left. "Why are you so rude to Anne?" Kendra frowned and asked unhappily.
"Should I bow to her? She is just a servant." Lendon said coldly.
Lendon seemed different from the day when they went camping. Kendra felt surprised, but she thought it was normal for Lendon to be emotional, so she continued to have her porridge and said nothing.
"Allow me," Lendon said and took Kendra's spoon. He served Kendra carefully.
"I can help myself," Kendra said.
"No!" Lendon refused.
Kendra said nothing and gave in.
"When did you wake up?" Lendon looked at her and asked.
"Just now." She quickly answered.
"Gosh, you are so weak! How could you catch a cold so easily?" Lendon complained.
Kendra smiled helplessly. She didn't want to be sick, either. Suddenly, Kendra felt thirsty and coughed.
"Are you okay? I will get Alexis." Lendon got nervous while looking at her. He stood up immediately.
"I am fine. I just want to have some water." Kendra grabbed Lendon's hand, stopping him from leaving.
"Okay." Lendon stood and poured a glass of water for her.
The hot water spilled out accidentally and scalded Lendon's hand.
Kendra got up and ran to Lendon. She grabbed Lendon's hand and asked, "Are you okay?" She pulled Lendon to the bathroom and washed his hand with cold water.
"Why are you so careless? You should go to Alexis. Tell him to give you some medicine." Kendra said worriedly.
Suddenly, Lendon hugged Kendra from behind and put his chin on her shoulder.
"Why are you so nervous?" Lendon asked faintly.
Kendra didn't understand Lendon's question.
"You don't like me. Why do you care about me?" Lendon asked again.
Kendra looked at Lendon through the mirror and felt confused. Did she care about him? Not really.
"Kendra, when will you fall in love with me?" Lendon asked.
Kendra felt helpless. She really didn't know how to answer this question.
"I can't wait anymore. What should I do?" Lendon murmured like a child. He nibbled Kendra's ears and made Kendra feel so itchy.
Suddenly, Lendon turned Kendra around and kissed her. He held her waist tightly and forced her to step back.
"I am still sick." Kendra struggled and tried to push him. She may make him sick, too.
"I don't care," Lendon said. He couldn't control himself. It was too difficult to stay away from her. He must be crazy. How would he lose control of a woman? But it was true. Kendra was even more dangerous than the poison inside his body. Not only his body, Kendra even eroded his mind. He couldn't even think straight because of her.
This afternoon, Kendra lay in bed and picked her phone up idly. Then, suddenly, she got a reminder of a new recording. Kendra got up soon and closed the door. Then, she continued to listen to the recording.
"You are right. Who knows why she mentioned the accident suddenly. But it is still risky. We have fired all people who knew the truth years ago. How did she know?" Marga's voice rang.
Robert didn't say a word for a long time. Kendra thought the recording might have ended and wanted to tap the next one. However, Robert suddenly spoke.
"I remember Nancy still lives in her hometown. Kendra lived with her for a while. It could be her." Robert said.
"Nancy?" Marga asked in surprise.
Kendra also felt surprised. After her mom died, Robert sent her to Nancy's home, and she lived there for half a year. She remembered that Nancy was a close maid of her mom. It was possible that Nancy knew the truth, but why didn't she tell Kendra?
"If it were her, why did she tell Kendra now? What is she waiting for?" Marga asked.
"You know nothing. As a close maid, she was loyal to Yolanda. If her son didn't get ill and she needed the money, she would have never agreed to help us." Robert said worriedly, "She is the only one who may tell Kendra what happened at that time."
Kendra was so shocked. Nancy hid the truth from her for money. But Robert suspected Nancy now. He thought Nancy was the only one who could tell her everything.
"What should we do now?" Marga's voice filled with worry. "Find her and send her away," Robert ordered.
"How? When we brought Kendra back, she left Washington, DC. We don't know where she is," Marga said.
"We must find her." Robert came again.
The remaining recording was almost all about Robert and Marga's discussion about what to do next.
Kendra was totally out of her mind. The truth was ridiculous for her. Her father murdered her mother and married another woman after they took her heritage. How absurd it was!
Kendra smiled bitterly and clenched her fists tightly. Tears fell from her eyes spontaneously. She hoped that Robert would take her back one day. But now, how could she forgive him? Kendra curled her body up and cried out sadly. After a while, she stopped crying and calmed down.
It was not time to be sorrowful. Kendra must find her aunt before Robert did, or she wouldn't be able to find any evidence. But it was difficult for her to look for someone who had disappeared for years. Right, she had Lendon! He said he could help her if she needed it.
Kendra got up and washed her face. Then, she walked out of her room and wanted to find Lendon. He was not in the living room or study room.
"Does he go to work?" Kendra asked confusedly.
"Miss Miller, why do you get up?" Curtis saw Kendra and asked.
"Curtis, where is Lendon? I didn't see him." Kendra walked to him.
"Mr. Martin went to England just now." Curtis simply answered.
"England?" Kendra asked curiously.
"Yes, Mr. Martin's grandpa decided to have a family meeting in England, so he left immediately. Mr. Martin didn't have time to tell you in person." Curtis explained and asked, "Miss Miller, why do you look for Mr. Martin?"
"I need his favor, but..." Kendra said.
At that time, Kendra's phone rang up. It was Lendon.
"Hello," Kendra said.
"I have to go to England, I am at the airport now," Lendon informed her.
"I know," Kendra said.
"Kendra! I said I am leaving! Don't you feel sad?" Lendon's voice was a bit strong.
"Of course. It's so sudden, and I still haven't accepted it." Kendra smiled awkwardly and explained. She had to put her phone further away from her ear.
"I will be back in one week. You stay at the castle and don't go anywhere. Remember to take medicine, eat food and sleep on time. And don't forget to call me. Do you understand?" Lendon asked again.
"Okay," Kendra said.
"I leave Curtis to you. He will take care of everything," Lendon said, "If you do something for yourself while I am not there, I will punish you when I get back."
"I know. I will behave myself." Kendra nodded and said. Lendon's voice sounded so threatening.
"Okay, I am going to take off now." Lendon said, "Remember to call me on time. Be good, and I will bring gifts to you."
"Yes, I got it," Kendra said. She took a deep breath and felt relieved after hanging up.
"We can take a break these days." Curtis smiled at her. He looked relieved.
"Curtis, Lendon will curse you if he knows what you say against him," Kendra jokes.
Curtis shrugged and smiled.
"Curtis, can you do me a favor?" Kendra recalled her aunt and asked.
"What's that?" Curtis asked.
"I want to find someone quickly. Can you help me?" Kendra asked.
"Yes, do you have any information about that person?" Curtis nodded and asked.
"I have some. I will write it down." Kendra quickly responded.
They went to the living room. Kendra found a pen and paper. She wrote down her aunt's name and previous address and gave it to Curtis. "That's all that I know." She handed what she wrote to Curtis.
"Don't worry. I will find her soon." Curtis said and left.
