Chapter 68: Should He Give Up Now?
Jane was shocked when she heard her son's response. She knew she should not interfere with Michael's relationship, but she needed to remind him too that she doesn't want Kendra to be her daughter-in-law.
"But your dad won't let you marry Kendra. You should know that clearly." Jane was a bit angry while uttering these words. They didn't want anything to do with the Miller now.
"Don't worry about it, Mom. I can handle things alone," Michael emphasizes his words, aiming to tell his mother that he is old enough to make the right decision.
"Michael, listen to me. Don't be stubborn. Your dad has stopped cooperating with the Miller family. It is Lendon Martin who they offended. We can't take risks." Jane's voice came again with full concern.
Lendon Martin. Hearing this name, Michael felt upset. He had made some investigation. It seemed that Kendra was his girlfriend now. There were pictures of them hanging out. Kendra had found someone else. It made him feel sad, as he really loved Kendra.
"Michael," Jane waved her hand, trying to persuade her son to forget any of the Miller family's daughters, "Did you hear my words?"
"Mom, don't worry about my marriage. I will handle it." Michael said and focused on his files, "It's been late. It would be best if you went to sleep. I still have some work to do."
Jane felt helpless. Michael has been independent since childhood. She could never change his mind no matter how she tried. But considering that Michael wanted to marry Kendra, she can't just set it aside.
"Michael, you are my son. I hope you will always think about our family whatever you do. Don't be willful." Jane said and left.
Michael frowned and closed his eyes. Should he give up now? He could still remember Kendra said she would wait for him. Why did she love someone else? He heaved a deep sigh, and a sudden throbbing headache came afterward.

The next day, Michael went to court with his assistant Kevin. He has an important court hearing today for one client who hired his legal service.
"Boss, are you free today. Do you have any plans?" Kevin looked at Michael's schedule, threw a glance at him after reading it.
"I have important things to do after this hearing, I am going to the hospital. So don't follow me." Michael's eyebrows frowning, his attention was on the client's case information given to him earlier.
"Are you sick?" Kevin was confused.
"No. I need to see someone." Michael answered shortly, "This case is over. Remind our client to pay the remaining fee. You can talk to him now." He hastily walked to the door, leaving Kevin alone without letting him talk again. Kevin was annoyed, but he couldn't follow Michael anymore as he disappeared quickly. Kevin shrugged helplessly. Fine, he was left behind.
Michael got into his car immediately. Along the way, he stopped in a certain shop to buy something.
He bought some flowers and fruits. It had been days since the engagement party had been ruined. He wanted to visit Robert as soon as possible, but he was not free until today.
Michael found Robert's private room quickly and knocked on the door.
"Come in." Someone uttered inside the room, inviting him in.
"Mr. Miller." Michael walked in, greeted the old man when he saw him.
"Michael, you are here. Please sit down." Marga said in surprise.
He walked to Robert's bed, ignoring Marga.
"Do you feel better?" Michael looked around and asked. He noticed Bianca was sitting on the sofa silently. Bianca also seemed surprised about his sudden appearance.
"Yes." Robert smiled pleasantly.
"I should have come here earlier, but I was too busy these days." Michael sat down next to Robert's bed. He could sense his slight agitation.
"It's okay. Business is more important." Suddenly Marga's voice interrupted them, and she gave Michael a glass of water.
"Thank you, Mrs. Miller!" He drank it and handed it back to her.
Michael was polite all the time. He asked many things about Robert's condition.
"That's very nice of you." Robert only said a few words, sensing that Michael wanted to say something.
Michael also smiled. He had been observing Robert and Marga's facial expressions. After a while, he decided to be frank.
"I came here to apologize today, in fact. About the engagement party," Michael started.
"Michael, we should be the one to apologize to you. It's our fault. Can you forgive us?" Marga interrupted Michael, her voice pleading.
"Don't worry. I am not blaming anyone."
Marga felt relieved. However, what Michael said next really shocked her.
"I came here to cancel the engagement with your daughter." Michael's declaration came like thunder that hit these people inside the room.
"What?!" Robert couldn't believe what he heard.
Bianca remains silent. She just lowered her head and held back her tears.
"I am sorry. I haven't liked Bianca since the beginning. I don't want to ruin her happiness." Michael calmly explained like a gentleman, "Now my dad also agreed with my opinion. I hope you can understand, too."
"Michael, I know we troubled you, but that was an accident. We don't want it, either." Marga looked at Michael, her voice was shivering, "Can you reconsider it? It is a big decision for us."
"I am sorry, but I have made up my mind," Michael said decisively. It was his initial purpose to cancel the engagement today.
"Michael..."
"Mom." Bianca stood up suddenly and interrupted Marga, "Michael made himself clear. That's enough." Then, she looked at Michael with sadness crossing her eyes, "My dad needs to take a break now. Let me walk you out."
"Bianca..." Marga felt heartbroken.
"Okay, I have to go now." Michael stood up quickly. He can't stay any longer. He had said what he wanted, and there was no need to stay here anymore.
Bianca and Michael walked out together. A deadly silence occurred between them.
"I thought you would be my husband." Bianca suddenly uttered, drooping her head. Afraid to look at Michael. She doesn't like to be rejected, but this man is so brutal.
"I am not the right one for you. You deserve better." Michael patted Bianca's head, trying to make her feel better.
"Hope so." Bianca looked away. She couldn't bear to face him.
Michael walked into the elevator, and when the door was about to close, Bianca suddenly stopped it.
"What's up?" Michael looked at her, confused.
"I hope we can still be friends." Bianca stared at him. She held her tears while looking at him.
"Of course." Michael sensed that Bianca wanted to cry. He knew this was very hard for her too.
"Can I call you Michael?" Bianca's faint voice came again.
"Yes."
"Okay. Goodbye."
As the door closed, Bianca took a deep breath and leaned against the wall. Her tears stream down quickly. Finally, after a couple of minutes, she forced herself to calm down and went back to her father's room.
"Bianca, did Michael change his mind?" Marga asked immediately as she saw Bianca back.
"No." Bianca shook her head and threw herself to the couch.
"It was Kendra." Marga cursed, "What a bitch! If she didn't ruin your party, none of this would happen."
"Mom, enough," Bianca yelled depressingly.
"Shouldn't we blame her? We raised her up and looked at what she did to us! Now we lost everything because of her!" Marga walked back and forth and complained.
"Can you be quiet?" Robert felt annoyed and shouted to Marga.
"Robert..."
"What can we do now? Do you have any ideas?" Robert asked impatiently.
Marga said nothing. The room became quiet.
"I won't let you down, Bianca. Michael came here alone. It means that we can announce this information first. Your reputation won't be hurt. I will find someone better for you." Robert looked at his daughter, trying to convince her.
"Dad, I am fine." Bianca smiled at him, but it didn't reach her eyes.
"Forget about the Baker family. Remember, don't have anything to do with Kendra anymore from now on." Robert warned them and closed his eyes.
Marga frowned but said nothing.
At night, Michael went to a pub with his friend.
"Michael, I heard you canceled your engagement. What happened?" Jack boldly asked.
"Can you please shut up? Just drink." Michael snorted. He's in no mood to discuss it.
"You asked me out to talk. Stop drinking." Jack put his glass down and said, "Come on. Tell me what happened."
"Nothing, really." Michael shunned the topic.
"You told me that you love your fiancee. Why do you regret it now? By the way, Lendon Martin's girlfriend is also a daughter of the Miller family?" Jack queried.
"Yes, she is the one I love, but they pushed me to marry her sister. I appreciate that Lendon Martin ruined the party." Michael sarcastically uttered.
"Oh crap!" Jack was shocked, "So the girl you like is Lendon's girlfriend?"
"Yes." Michael nodded without hesitation, gulping the wine down.
"What should you do now?" Jack was curious to hear his plan.
"I don't know." Michael smiled bitterly. He was so depressed too.
"Michael, do you want to give up? That's not you." Jack urged him. He knew Michael was always aggressive in court. He wouldn't give up easily.
"Lendon is nice to her," Michael said, pain added to his voice. He could tell it easily the way Lendon treated Kendra based on the report he got.
"You really want to give up?" Jack asked unbelievably.
"What else can I do? She is happy now. Should I ruin her happiness?" He sounded so upset this time.
Jack stared at him for a while and smiled, "You do love her. But, c'mon, they haven't married yet. So why not try to chase her again?" He encouraged him.
"I want to, but I am not sure if I could win her back," Michael hesitated. He was not sure if Kendra still remembered him. He was not sure if Kendra liked him. He only knew that Kendra wanted to stay away from him.
