Chapter 37: You're Just A Servant
Curtis walked out of the kitchen and brought another food. "Sir, the chef prepared some new dishes today." He gently said, trying to please him.
"Wow, they look delicious!" Kendra said happily and wanted to have a try on it.
However, Lendon stopped her and tasted first. "What the fuck? They taste like rubbish!" Lendon growled in anger and threw his fork away, "Ask the chef to come here!"
Soon, everyone held their breath, and no one dared to say a word. The maidservants were shivering and stood rooted on the ground.
Kendra didn't know what was wrong, but she could feel Lendon's anger.
"Mr. Martin." The chef stood next to Lendon and nervously said.
"What's this? Who told you to cook this way?" Lendon pointed to the plate and questioned.
"It…"
Before the chef explained, Lendon threw the plate on the ground.
Kendra was shocked and sat straight on her chair, lowering her head. What was wrong with him today, he was still so mad. Kendra wondered what triggered Lendon's anger.
"Mr. Martin, I'm so sorry. I will prepare some new dishes right now." The chef begged, afraid to become an outlet of his anger.
"No, it's not necessary. You can go." Face still gloomy, he waved his hand to let him go.
"Thank you, Mr. Martin." Bowing his head, and turned to the kitchen. He seemed to say something else but bit back his words.
Curtis stopped the chef and whispered something. Then, he told the chef to leave.
This day began with an unhappy breakfast. Kendra realized that she was the reason why it happened, so before Lendon fired another person, she stood up and said, "I have to go now. I will be late. I have something necessary to do at school,"
"Wait," Lendon said coldly.
"How can I help you, Mr. Martin?" Kendra turned around slowly, eyes fell on Lendon's cold face.
"Make breakfast for me." He ordered, and with the same expression as he stared at her.
Thinking about last night, Kendra gave in and went to the kitchen silently to make noodles for him.
After a while, Kendra went back with hot noodles. She prayed that this would make Lendon calm down.
"Help me," Lendon said without any facial expression.
"What?" Kendra asked surprisingly.
"Do I need to repeat my words? You're my servant," Displease with her sudden reaction, Lendon reminded her.
"Okay," Kendra gritted her teeth. She took a deep breath and sat down next to Lendon, feeding him with noodles patiently. Why was he so capricious?
Everyone around them lowered their head, and no one made any noise.
"Slowly, it's hot," Kendra said softly. She fed him like a little boy and even felt embarrassed.
Lendon had been upset for the whole night. He let out his anger this morning, but when he saw Kendra feeding him seriously, he somehow calmed down. Kendra looked better. Compared with other girls, she was too perfect. Lendon couldn't take his eyes off Kendra.
Wait! What was he doing? Did Kendra seduce him? Should he just let her go so easily? No, it was impossible. Kendra must want to earn his forgiveness, so she behaved so well. But he couldn't let it happen. Lendon found that he was getting more and more abnormal recently.
"Are you full?" Then, after a while, she asked him.
"Go away!" Lendon suddenly waved his hands, voice raised.
The plate dropped on the ground, and some hot sauce landed on Kendra's arm and was scalded immediately. What was wrong with him?
"What do you want, Lendon?" Kendra glared at Lendon and shouted at him back when she felt the sharp pain on her scalded arm.
"Look, I endured all of these bad behaviors you have. Your unreasonable anger, making us all shivered, this isn't right,"
Looking at Kendra's arm, Lendon felt a little worried. But he stood up the next second and sneered, "Kendra, don't think you are special because you slept with me. You are just a servant to me. Don't forget our contract." Then, he kicked the chair and left.
Kendra covered her swollen arm and frowned. Lendon was a psycho! She never met anyone so mad like him! She did nothing at all. Why is he always angry? Kendra felt she was going to break down soon. Curtis, who was present at the moment, felt sad for Kendra. He knew that she was devastated by the way Lendon treated her.
"Miss Miller, are you okay?" Curtis walked to her, gently asked her with concern.
"What's wrong with him? Did I make a mistake?" Kendra tried to control her tears and asked sadly.
"You know Mr. Martin can be enraptured sometimes. And last night…" Curtis stopped and sighed, "His sickness changes him a lot. He gets mania now. I am not the right person to explain about his painful past too. I will let him tell you about it at the right time. I hope you still can bear all his anger,"
Right, he had mania. Normal people wouldn't be so unreasonable. But why should she bear his bad temper? Kendra stood up angrily and took deep breaths to calm down.
"Miss Miller, I will ask Doctor Trump to deal with your scalded arm." Curtis offered and left soon.
Kendra didn't stop Curtis. She had to skip school today because her arm didn't look good.
Alexis helped Kendra clean up her scalded arm and joked, "What happened to the two of you? Why did you hurt each other, huh?"
"I don't know. Lendon is getting worse these days," Kendra shrugged her shoulders helplessly. She really wondered why Lendon always made her troubles.
"Okay." Alexis finished his work and said, "Don't wet it these days. I will check it once a day."
"Will I have a scar?" Kendra asked worriedly. If she has a scar here, it will look ugly, and it saddens her to think about it. She takes care of her skin, as her late mother always reminded her to do it.
"Don't worry. Lendon won't let you have a scar. We have the best ointment on any kind of wound." Alexis smiled, reassuring her. Looking at her, Alexis can't help but pity her.
"Don't mention it to him!" Kendra murmured.
"What? You hate him now?" Alexis smiled widely.
"As if I liked him before." Kendra rolled her eyes and said. Who would like such a psycho?
"You don't like him?" Alexis asked again.
"Should I? He is like a wolf who wanted to devour every human being," Kendra snorted at Alexis. "He didn't even care about other people's feelings,"
"He is young and rich. Countless women want to be his wife. Besides, he is a duke. In the near future, he will ascend the throne, as he is the only descendant. How can you feel nothing for him? It is not possible." Alexis gently smiled, staring at her at the same time.
"You mean I should like him?" Kendra rolled her eyes again. "No way, I have lots of dreams in life. He's not my cup of tea. Let those beautiful women run after him and warm his bed,"
"That's not what I mean," Alexis quickly answered, "I feel strange that you don't like him, you know. He has everything,"
"Let me make myself clear. For me, he is rude, insane, stubborn, and horrible. I can count all his shortcomings the whole day. As for his wealth, it has nothing to do with me. I can acquire wealth as long as I finish my study and find a decent job," Kendra defiantly retorted. She even felt strange that Lendon was not killed by his enemies because of his crazy personality.
Alexis laughed out so hard when he heard Kendra's answer.
"What's so funny? I am just stating the fact," Kendra raised her eyebrow, annoyed by Alexis's laugh.
"He was injured last night because of you. So his gesture does not touch you?" Alexis teased her.
Touched? A little, maybe. Anyway, no one cared about her since her mom died, but what Lendon did this morning totally pulled Kendra away again.
"That doesn't mean he can treat me like a doll," Kendra complained.
"But inside this castle, you are the only one who can make him lose control." Alexis shrugged his shoulders while collecting his tools.
Kendra went silent, can't find words to say, "Noye's, I'm leaving. Thank you for treating my wound,"
Alexis just nodded and heaved a deep sigh while looking at Kendra's disappearing back.
"She's also so stubborn like Lendon. They both knew they have a strong attraction with each other but trying to deny it," He murmured.
After leaving Alexis's lab, Kendra kept thinking about his words. Lendon seemed so complicated. Sometimes he was so nice, but often he was so hateful. No one knew his thoughts. Never mind, she didn't want to waste time on him. She needed to find ways to pay her debt to him so she could leave this place. She still has to face her own problem, the slandering post. She needed to find the person who spread that malicious accusation.
Kendra went to school at noon. She still had two classes.
When Kendra got to school, she could feel clearly that her classmates changed their attitude toward her. They didn't humiliate her directly, but the way they looked at her was too sharp.
After class, a few students walked to Kendra and surrounded her.
"Kendra, do you know someone powerful?"
"How do you fix the whole thing?"
"You really are so different, huh?"
"After the humiliation, you manage to uplift your moral,"
"The headmaster even explained for you. Well done!"
"Tell us how you made it."
She was shocked by their sudden rants, unaware of what's going on.
