Chapter 38: We Were Destined To Meet Again
She fell into deep thoughts. What's really going on? Kendra's classmates discussed it loudly while Kendra looked at them vaguely.
"What are you talking about?" Kendra finds her tongue after a few minutes, in deep thoughts.
"Just tell us. We are friends. You can trust us." A boy patted Kendra's shoulder and enthusiastically encouraged her, "Don't worry. We believe in you. Just tell us who was the one backing you up,"
Kendra lost in thought again, can't relate to what they're talking about. She looked at them and asked, "Enlightened me, as I don't understand what you guys mean?"
"Stop pretending!" A girl gave her phone to Kendra to show her something, "Look, the headmaster criticized those who spread rumors seriously with his own account, and he said he would find out who did it."
Kendra finally realized that they were talking about the humiliating post about her. The headmaster did defend her, and that post was deleted. No wonder no one cursed her when she came to school this morning. They were afraid to be investigated, but their actions were so vivid that they still felt disgusted against her.
"How did you do it?" The girl curiously asked her, eyes were accusing.
"I have to go now. Excuse me." Kendra gave the phone back to the girl. Then, she grabbed her bag and ran out of the classroom. She needs to find out who helped her to solve the issue.
After she left the room, Kendra quickly called Michael.
The phone rang for a few seconds, and someone picked it up.
"Hello!" Michael's voice came in.
"Hey, it's me." Kendra greeted him.
"I know." A smile on Michael's face appeared while holding his phone, "Why do you call me? I am flattered and wasn't expecting you will take the initiative to make a call,"
"I just want to say thank you." Kendra calmly said after hesitating for a while.
"For what?" Michael asked confusedly. He didn't know what she means. Did he do something for her?
"For helping me," Kendra explained, pacing back and forth.
"Oh, do you mean that post?" Michael asked, "I saw your headmaster's post this morning. Since he spoke out for you, I think no one will spread the rumor again. It is over. I hope you feel better now,"
It sounded that it was not Michael who helped her.
"It's not you?" Kendra inquired, confusion written on her face.
"Deleting that post?" Michael laughed at the other end, "I wanted to help you. But someone seemed to have done it earlier. How I wish, I would be the one who did it for you,"
Kendra felt surprised. Michael didn't help her this time. Who did it? Lendon? Kendra suddenly felt nervous. If it was Lendon, then she misunderstood him. No, she will then again have another debt to him.
"Are you still there?" Noticing her silence, Michael asked.
"Yeah. I'm here," Kendra snapped back to reality.
"Are you okay?" Michael asked.
"Yes, I am fine. Thank you for asking." Kendra said, "I have to go now. Bye."
"Wait!" Michael tried to stop her, "I.. I.. Okay, bye." He didn't know what to say at all.
After Kendra hung up, Michael looked at his phone and smiled subconsciously.
"Stop smiling! You look weird!" Jack pushed Michael and joked. He was Michael's friend.
"It's none of your business." A pleasant smile came to his face. He just felt happy, hearing Kendra's voice. He can't explain it, but it was like a sudden light on his gloomy day.
"What? Are you in a relationship? You just came back! Don't hurt girls!" Jack laughed and reminded him.
"You don't know about it. She's my destiny." Michael winked at him.
"What?" Jack was shocked, hearing his declaration. They've been close friends for many years, but he hadn't seen him dating girls before.
"She is my fiancée. I have loved her for 15 years." Michael looked out through the window and faintly said.
"15 years?" Jack felt surprised, curiously listening to him, "You are saying he's your last woman?"
"She's the one my grandfather arranged for me back then. I promised the old man I will marry her one day," Michael smiled.
"You knew her since childhood?" Jack patted Michael's shoulder and said, "No wonder you don't have a girlfriend these years. The girl must be brilliant. Can I meet her?
"No." Michael refused.
"Why? Don't be so mean." Jack argued. "I wanted to see her so I could confirm if she's a good one for you," Jack added.
"She may be afraid of you," Michael snapped back.
"Oh my god, look at you! Michael, you should really find a mirror and see your face. You look foolish now. How can I scare her?" Jack glanced at Michael, who was now busy on his phone.
Michael didn't say anything, just keep ignoring him. Anyway, he must protect Kendra starting now. When he found a way to deal with her family, he would give her a surprise. He wanted to make her happy.
At this moment, Kendra had been anxious after talking to Michael. In fact, she couldn't concentrate on her classes anymore. It was beyond her imagination that Lendon was the one who helped her get out of trouble. How was that possible? He was so mad with her this morning. Why did he help her? Wait, Curtis said Lendon was worried about her last night. Was that because he knew the post? Did Curtis tell him about it? She wanted to return to the castle to ask him.
After class, Kendra left the classroom immediately and went to find her driver.
They're on the way back to the castle, and she sat on the back of the car, leaning her head on the car window, figuring out how she would ask the driver about something. She was hesitant, but she finally made up her mind and instead asked the driver, "Do you know how to get to Martin Group?"
"Miss Miller, do you want to go there?" The driver asked, eyes still on the road.
"Yes." Kendra abruptly answered. She wanted to ask Lendon personally.
"Okay, I will send you to the Martin Group," He quickly turned the car back to the highway speeding faster like a bullet train heading to Lendon's company.
Soon, they arrived at Martin Group. Undoubtedly, the building looked spectacular. Kendra wondered how good the view was if she could go to the top floor.
"Miss Miller, I will wait here." The driver said before she jumped out of the car.
"No, you can head to the castle now. I can grab a cab later when I'm done here." Kendra told him.
"Okay, as you said, then I won't argue with you. You take care!"
Kendra got out of the car and walked towards the main entrance of the Martin Group. She went to the reception area, wearing a sweet smile. She greeted the personnel, "Hello good after, where is Mr. Martin's office?" It was the first time she came to Lendon's company, so she didn't know his office location.
"Do you want to meet Mr. Martin?" The receptionist looked at her, asked, the voice was formal.
"Yes." Kendra nodded immediately.
"Do you have an appointment?" The girl smiled, politely asked her.
"Um, no." Hesitantly she replied. She's a bit embarrassed.
"Sorry, you can't go in without an appointment. Mr. Martin didn't want to receive any visitors without an appointment," Still amused by her reaction, the girl politely said.
"Can I see Mr. Curtis?" She quickly answered. Thinking that Curtis could help her.
"If you have an appointment." The girl answered.
Kendra sighed. It seemed that she couldn't see Lendon personally. Never mind. She could go back to the castle and wait for him. In fact, she should never come here so impulsively. Kendra decided to leave, but she suddenly heard someone shouting loudly.
"Appointment? I said I am an important guest of Mr. Martin. Are you deaf?" Someone is shouting sharply—a female voice.
Kendra looked at the woman and found it was Fiona. What a coincidence. She almost drowned before because of this woman, and suddenly they met again.
"Okay, if you don't let me in, at least you can tell Mr. Martin I am here," Fiona said impatiently.
"Mr. Martin is having a meeting now." The receptionist smiled and patiently explained to Fiona.
"Just call him." Fiona insisted. Face contorted. She hated to be rejected.
"If you don't leave now, Miss, I will get the security here." The receptionist threatened Fiona.
"Security? Good, fine, get them here now. Let's see who dares to kick me out." Fiona shouted angrily.
Kendra shook her head and wanted to leave. She can't bear to see how rude this woman was. The rich women really think highly of themselves. She thought.
Somehow, Fiona suddenly noticed Kendra's near her, she called her attention, "Hey, you're Miss Miller, right?"
Seeing Kendra halted her pace, she suddenly felt the urge to bully her. She walked towards her, grabbed her arms arrogantly, and sneered, "Good, I haven't made you pay last time. It would be best if you didn't appear in front of me again. But I guess we were destined to meet again, time for me to collect your debt," An evil smile formed at the corner of her lips.
