Chapter 35: It Must Be A Mistake

The woman stood rooted on the ground and stared at him in horror. Lendon didn't care about others at all. He grabbed Kendra's arm and warned, "If you run away again, I won't spare you."
Kendra felt embarrassed and looked at Joyce. She hated Lendon this time for humiliating her in front of others.
Everyone saw what happened and discussed it faintly. And it even grew louder that made Kendra clenched her fists, her fingernails dug into her palms.
Joyce also felt so angry when Lendon ignored her. She was never treated this way! She glared at Kendra and almost went mad. What special with this woman that caught Lendon's attention?
"Lendon, I don't feel good. I will wait for you in the car. This lady seems to have something to say." Kendra glanced at Lendon, pulling her arm that Lendon held tightly. She only wanted to leave here as soon as possible. It was too embarrassing!
"Did I let you go?" Lendon asked unhappily and even grabbed Kendra's hand more tightly.
"But…" She couldn't believe how he lost his temper in a public place like this. He doesn't even care if people's discussion gets even intense.
"Shut up!" Lendon shouted and left with Kendra despite people's curious eyesight.
When they walked out of the venue, Curtis ran to them and called, "My Lord."
"What?!" Lendon quickly halted his steps, glanced at him.
"You can't leave now. You ought to make a speech later." In a low voice, afraid to anger him even more, Curtis reminded him.
"No. I'm not in a good mood," Lendon said and wanted to leave.
"Wait, my lord." Curtis stopped Lendon and said patiently, "My Lord, our group has been working closely with Universe Group for years. This…"
Lendon stood still and stared at Kendra. After a while, he loosened his hand and said, "Curtis, take her to the car and keep an eye on her." Then, he patted Kendra's head and said, "You'd better stay still. Wait for me,"
Kendra rolled her eyes secretly. She wanted to slap him to sober him up, yet she doesn't have enough courage to do it.
"Miss Miller, please. Let's go!" Curtis waved his hand, guiding her to the car.
Kendra went back to the car and finally could take a break. However, Joyce followed to the car and knocked on Kendra's window after a few minutes. Kendra is in no mood to face her, yet she doesn't stop knocking in the car window.
Curtis looked at Kendra and asked, "Shall I tell her to leave, Miss Miller?"
"No, it's not necessary." Defeated, Kendra said. Joyce was not happy at the party. Maybe she just wanted to know who she was and why she's with Lendon. She thought.
Kendra got off and greeted her seriously, "Miss Cullen."
"You are Kendra Miller?" Joyce stared at her indignantly. The way this woman looked at her made her felt uneasy.
"Yes. How can I help you?" Kendra asked politely.
"You are a bitch." Without any delay, Joyce said.
"What?!" She was stunned when she clearly heard what she said. She didn't expect that Joyce will come to her and spill nasty words. Fine, Joyce Cullen was not a good person, either.
"You are a famous mistress now. How dare you come here? A shameless bitch!" Joyce sneered and growled, "I wondered if I saw you before, so I checked your photo online. It is really you. You abandoned your previous sugar-daddy because of Lendon?"
"Miss Cullen, please don't judge me before you know the truth," Kendra answered seriously. The hot topic at her school was now spread like wildfire. That's why this woman humiliated her mercilessly.
"Truth? The post said clearly what you did. What kind of truth are you talking about?" Joyce's voice came like a roaring tigress, ready to devour her. Thinking about how Lendon treated her because of Kendra, Joyce even wanted to kill her.
"Are you done? You can leave now if you just want to say these. We have nothing to talk about, I don't need to explain myself either," Kendra retorted as she felt bad about the way these rich people treated her.
"Lendon is not here now. No one can help you." Joyce grabbed Kendra's arm and twisted it cruelly, "Come back with me. I will tell Lendon what you did."
"Let me go." Kendra struggled and shouted.
Curtis heard Kendra's voice and got off to stop Joyce immediately.
"What's happening, Miss Cullen?" Curtis stood next to them, stopping Joyce's rude behavior.
"Who are you?" Joyce snapped back, giving Curtis a disdainful look.
"I am Mr. Martin's steward. You can call me Curtis. Miss Cullen, what are you doing?" Curtis answered politely.
"I am going to take her back." Joyce glared at Kendra and said, "She is a mistress. I bet Mr. Martin hasn't known yet. He should know the truth before his reputation got ruined by this woman,"
"It must be a mistake, or you find the wrong person." Curtis smiled, trying to appease Joyce's boiling temper.
Joyce didn't expect that Curtis would help Kendra. She glanced at Curtis and narrated, "My grandpa wants me to marry Mr. Martin. It would be best if you didn't stop me. Later on, I will be Lendon's legal wife and would definitely become your boss,"
It turned out that Joyce was a stubborn and rude girl. Curtis smiled and helped Kendra get away from Joyce. "Miss Cullen, Miss Miller is Mr. Martin's guest. He said that she couldn't go anywhere. I bet you don't want to piss off, Mr. Martin, right?" Curtis forcibly took Kendra's hand and asked her to get inside the car.
"You!" Joyce glared at Curtis and shouted, "Let's wait and see!"
Joyce left soon. Curtis felt relieved, but he's worried about Kendra.
Kendra sat in the car and felt so tired. She wanted to leave this place, but Lendon will get mad if she did that. Besides, Curtis was with her. No way she could run away.
"Are you okay, Miss Miller?" In a worried tone, Curtis asked her.
"I am fine, Curtis," Kendra rubbed her forehead and temple. Suddenly, all her energy was worn out.
"Is anything wrong?" Curtis gradually asks her, trying to figure out what's going on. He felt strange when he saw Kendra at school today. Kendra looked sad and vulnerable. Besides, Joyce said something about the mistress thing. But Curtis didn't know what had happened.
"No, everything is fine." Kendra pursed her lips, shutting down her eyes.
Curtis stopped asking, but he googled about the post that Joyce said and finally knew why Kendra was unhappy today. It was a humiliating post with sharp and offensive words. The blogger described the whole process decisively as if he or she saw it in person.
Curtis, of course, recognized that those mentioned "luxury cars" belong to Martin Group, and Kendra was not a mistress at all. He turned around to look at Kendra, who was still closing her eyes and leaning against the window. He must tell Mr. Martin. Miss Miller shouldn't face all these rumors alone. He always felt pity for this girl. Curtis knew she's innocent.
When the party was over, Lendon and Kendra went back to the castle.
Kendra said she was uncomfortable and went to her room soon. Lendon called her several times, but Kendra didn't even turn around.
Lendon kicked a vase and shouted, "What is she trying to prove now? She acted like a master?"
Curtis looked at pieces of the expensive vase that shattered on the floor, sighed. Another expensive thing became the receiving end of Lendon's anger.
"Curtis, tell Kendra to come back here." Lendon frowned and ordered. He walked around the living room and was so furious.
"My Lord, Miss Miller is not in a good mood today. Something happened." Curtis explained.
"What?" Lendon frowned, eyes fell to him.
"While Miss Miller was waiting for you in the car, Miss Cullen went to humiliate her. And there is a post online saying that Miss Miller is a mistress of a rich businessman." Curtis had informed him.
Lendon got sulky as Curtis spoke. He wasn't aware of it.
"This happened today?" He sat down on the sofa and asked.
"Yes." Curtis answered and gave his phone to Lendon, "This is the post. Have a look,"
Lendon browsed the post quickly and threw the phone away madly.
"Curtis! Look into the post now! I want to know who is spreading rumors about her." Lendon ordered.
"Yes, sir." Curtis nodded and was about to leave, but he stopped him.
"Wait!" Lendon called his attention, "It must be handled properly. I bet Kendra has some trouble at school. Tell those headmasters that they will be fired if Kendra is treated unfairly. They're getting into my nerve,"
"Yes, my lord. I will, as you said." Bowing, Curtis disappeared immediately.
Lendon walked upstairs. He had to talk to her.
Kendra was lying in her tub leisurely. She closed her eyes and relaxed her body. The warm water that penetrates her skin calms her senses. It seemed that she couldn't go abroad, but she was curious to know who spread the malicious post. Thinking about the long day she had, Kendra gradually felt sleepy and fell asleep after a while.
Lendon walked to Kendra's room and knocked on her door.
However, no one answered him.
