Chapter 31: Don't Try To Fool Us
In just a few minutes, she was dressed up and went down quickly. Lendon gave her a naughty smile when they climbed to the car. Kendra was forced to go out with him. They went to the CBD building. After they got off, Lendon told Kendra to follow him. She couldn't understand why he had to bring her into this place.
Many senior managers had been waiting for Lendon. Then, finally, he walked into a vast building, and his underlings were briefing him about a specific situation.
"Mr. Martin, if we open it fully, we can make profits within six months. So this project will definitely be successful."
"Yes, Mr. Martin. We just need to make an advertisement by hiring popular actors or models. Then, we make sure everyone knows this place, and we can invest more."
Lendon put his hands in his pockets and listened to the report without any facial expression. He glanced at Kendra occasionally, who followed him silently.
This building seemed to be a shopping mall. It must only include luxury brands. Kendra looked around curiously and thought this building's design was second to none. However, she couldn't afford to shop here. Kendra sighed and wondered when she could be wealthy like him. She couldn't help but admire this man despite his rude and cold temperament.
"Miss Miller," Curtis called her attention, who's also been with them since he's Lendon's personal butler.
"What's up?" She threw a short glance at him.
"Mr. Martin needs to go somewhere else, and he asked me to keep an eye on you." Curtis calmly said, yet he felt this woman might have misunderstood him.
Kendra wanted to complain, but when she looked at Lendon, who's now pacing faster, and saw him leaving with a group of people, she suddenly bit back her words.
Giving a wry smile, "It's not necessary. I can walk around alone." Kendra waved her hands to send off Curtis.
"I need to do as Mr. Martin said." Curtis insisted, ignoring her gesture.
She rolled her eyes, defeated, "Fine." She didn't want to embarrass Curtis since he's just following Lendon's order.
Kendra spent the whole morning inside the building and felt so bored. She asked Curtis to let her out several times. Finally, Curtis allowed her to walk around in front of the building.
Soon, Kendra felt hungry, but she had to wait for Lendon. God, she was so starving to death. Kendra bent over and covered her belly as it carped loudly. She felt a little uncomfortable. Hmm! When will Lendon be done with his job? I want to eat! Did he even forget that he had been with me all the way here? Food images pop out in her mind. She can't help but complain silently.
After a few seconds, she decided to look for a stall that sold food. Kendra stood up, but suddenly, she saw Marga and Bianca not far from her sight. They were walking out from another mall nearby.
"Kendra?" Bianca called Kendra's attention when she noticed her, "What are you doing here? Are you waiting for someone?"
Kendra didn't expect to see Marga and Bianca in this place. She gave a hesitant nod. She was asking why in so many places, fate had made their path cross with each other. She obviously was avoiding them, as the other night's dinner didn't end well.
"I'm with my friend, she's buying something inside the mall. I got bored, so I went out to breathe," She reasoned.
"Are you sure?" Marga frowned, doubting her words. She stared at Kendra doubtfully. This was an expensive mall. Kendra had left the Miller home. How could she afford to shop here? There must be someone who was backing her up.
Kendra didn't answer Marga. She knew her stepmother always have a grudge against her.
Bianca walked to Kendra's, held her hand, and gently smile. "The brand that we like has discounts today. I bought the dress that you wanted last time. I intend to send it to your school, but I don't expect to meet you here. Look, this dress suits you well." She gave the shopping bag to Kendra.
"No, you look better in it. Keep it for yourself." Kendra pushed back the shopping bag to her sister as she saw Marga's eyebrow cocked. A stern look cast on her.
"No, I bought it for you. Just take it. I know you wanted this dress before," Bianca insisted and gave the shopping bag back to Kendra.
"She doesn't want it. Can't you see, Bianca?" Marga grabbed the bag immediately, "You refused to return home even though we begged you last night. You don't belong to our family anymore. Don't try to get anything from us. You're too arrogant to accept our aid, then no need for us to treat you better,"
Kendra smiled bitterly and said nothing. She knew it. Her stepmother never cared about her.
It was so awkward. Bianca grabbed Marga's hand and argued, "Mom, don't say that. You want Kendra to come back, right? She's still a Miller; why have you treated her like this?"
"A Miller? She doesn't want to be part of our family, why insist then? She doesn't want to come back, obviously. So why do you still help her? Besides, I won't forgive her for seducing Michael." Marga glanced at Kendra and sneered.
Kendra couldn't believe what she heard. When did she seduce Michael? Was it in Hilton? So, they wanted her back because of Michael? Now, she figured out why they forced her to come back home, it's all because of Michael. They wanted to control her. A visible mocking smile appeared at the corner of her mouth. Pathetic! She cursed them in silence.
"Mom, it's not good to say these words. We all know from the beginning that Michael is Kendra's fiance." Bianca reminded her mother.
"Shut up!" Marga shouted, "Don't be stupid! She is not your sister anymore. Michael is your fiance, not hers. She is trash. Who will accept a woman like her? Do you think Michael will marry her?" Marga's voice came like a thunderbolt, eyes were full of hatred.
Every time Kendra met Marga, she would be hurt. She didn't argue with Marga before, but now she had gone too far. Finally, Kendra couldn't bear her attitude anymore.
"Marga, show me some respect." Kendra calmly retorted, trying to control her anger.
"What? You don't want to hear the truth?" Marga glared at Kendra, a provoking manner shown in her behavior as she stepped forward to Kendra, "You must listen to me. Bianca has always been kind to you. How can you steal her happiness? She's the right one for Michael, not you,"
"I did nothing. How do I steal her happiness?" Kendra argued. Marga was better at framing her for some ridiculous reasons.
Bianca frowned and quickly intervened, "Mom, stop. Please stop it. This a public place," She feared that things would go out of control and would create scandal.
"Kendra, you'd better give Michael up. Even if you marry him, I won't make it easy for you." Marga warned her. She had been waiting for years. Michael could be Bianca's best choice. And, no matter what happened, she couldn't let Kendra marry Michael.
"I have never wanted to marry Michael. Not even once, because I have so many plans in life, and marrying is not my top priority. He is all yours. Another thing, now I am not a Miller anymore. Do you hear me? What else do you want?" Kendra bravely met her gaze while saying all these things. She felt so aggrieved. She really did nothing wrong. Why did Marga just keep insulting her?
"Don't try to fool us. You are pretending that you don't like Michael, but you must have said something to him. Or why did he insist on marrying you?" Marga still didn't stop. Her voice raised and even caught the attention of the bystander.
"What? He said that?" Kendra asked surprisingly. What the hell?
"Don't lie to us. Michael told Bianca in person. If you don't marry him, he will withdraw the engagement. So what did you do to him?" Marga fiercely yelled and pushed Kendra hard.
Kendra stepped back and almost fell down, but she managed to balance her footing.
"Kendra!" Bianca quickly extended her hands, held Kendra, and asked, "Are you okay?"
"I am fine." Kendra shook her head, giving her a reassuring look.
"You are good at pretending. I will warn you for the last time. Don't challenge my limit, or I won't let you off easily." Marga sneered, giving a horrible look against her.
At this time, Curtis appeared from nowhere, walking towards them, "Miss Miller, Mr. Martin is looking for you."
Kendra nodded and took a deep breath. She didn't want to waste time with Marga anymore. "Bianca, I need to go now." She calmed down. She was about to turn around to follow Curtis.
"Kendra," Bianca grabbed Kendra's arm and asked her, "Who is he?"
"She knew me, I am not a bad guy, but your mother seems to be mean." Curtis gave a murderous look against them. Marga was taken aback when she saw the man's gesture.
Kendra felt so surprised. Curtis barely talked in this way. Did he see what happened?
"I am fine, Bianca. I need to go." She walked away immediately. She couldn't let Marga see Lendon, or there would be new troubles again.
After Kendra left, Marga walked to Bianca and held her arm. "Who is that man?" She asked confusedly. "Did you heard his tone? He seemed to defend Kendra,"
"I don't know who he is." Bianca shook her head, her eyes still following Kendra's disappearing back.
"I heard what he said. Who is Mr. Martin?" Marga became alerted. The name sounds familiar. "We should follow her."
"Mom, don't go. It's not good to interfere with other's lives," Bianca stopped her mother.
"Listen to me! Kendra is trying to take your husband away. I can't let her steal what should be yours. We need to know what she did these days. Let's go!" Marga glanced at Bianca, pulling her hands to chase Kendra.
