Chapter 14
During breakfast, Matt had avoided looking at Jasmine or even speaking to her. He was engrossed in the papers in front of him, something that infuriated Jasmine.
Immediately after the breakfast, Jasmine had decided to postpone the meeting with the ladies as she feared that Leila and her sharp tongue and ears was going to have something to say to her concerning Becca and her son. It wasn’t going to surprise Jasmine of Leila was aware of it. She still wasn’t convinced that the child wasn’t his.
“Your highness,” Cara entered the room. “Lady Leila is here to see you.”
“Tell her, I’m not feeling well,” Jasmine said, giving Cara a knowing look. She didn’t want to talk to the woman and suspected that the woman had come to say something regarding her marriage.
Cara nodded and left. It had occurred to her that the woman was there to say something that was going to do nothing but annoy the Queen, but as a common maid, she couldn’t send the woman away without the permission of the Queen.
Jasmine closed her eyes as she thought of what to do. It was evident that Matt was pissed with her. He had told her that the child wasn’t his and neither was he screwing the woman.
She stood up and decided that she needed to talk to him. It was to make sure that they were on the same page.
“Where is the king?” She questioned the guards before her, stationed by the king’s door, knowing that he was still in the mansion.
“In the room, your highne..” she didn’t wait for them to finish replying before she walked inside the room.
“Matt,” she began, as soon as she entered. He looked as though he was looking through some files, a small frown etched on his face as his brows pulled together in concentration. A look that always made Jasmine’s heart flutter.
He glanced up at her, as soon as he heard her voice, his friend deepening. He had ordered the guards to not let anyone in as he was going through some files that seemed suspicious. It was as though, some money was missing from the treasury.
“What are you doing here?” He questioned, putting the files aside and making a mental note to scold the guards later.
“I realized how wrong I was….”
“Save your fake apologies, Jasmine. I know you’re not remorseful about anything,” she sighed deeply, noting how correct he was.
“I was just…Matt, what happened to us?” She was sitting down now and peering into his face.
He muttered something incomprehensible under his breath and then stared squarely at her.
“Look here, Jas, I don’t know what games you’re playing at, but i was just going to send a maid to your chambers. You have finally gotten what you wanted. The members of the council wants to see you..”
“The council members be damned!”
Matt was surprised at her outburst, but said nothing.
“They want to see you tomorrow. An urgent meeting has been called..”
Jasmine walked out of the room, muttering a string of curses and realizing that it was the reason why Leila had come. The woman had come to find find first hand stories.
The fact alone had annoyed her and she walked straight to her room. She wondered if the members of the council wanted her away from the throne, perhaps they supported Becca.
Jasmine tossed and turned and finally stood up, deciding that she was going to actually have a civil conversation with him and not let anything bother her.
When Jasmine got to his room and he wasn’t there, she knew that the only other place he was going to be at this time was his study and she hurried there quickly.
She knocked slowly and when there was no response, she pushed open the door and walked in.
She halted in her tracks when she heard voices and realized that her husband wasn’t in the room alone. That was a female voice! Jasmine’s chest constricted painfully.
She thought of the best way to approach them, pushing away the thought of leaving the room. She wanted to be there and confront them.
The first thought that came to her mind was that the woman was Becca and Matt wasn’t even discreet anymore. He Didn’t care about her finding out, he must’ve thought she wasn’t going to do anything.
A married man was with another woman alone in his study. How interesting!
“Oh my, someone’s here,” She heard a female voice and that broke her chain of thoughts.
She glanced up to see the Georgeous blonde. She was wearing a lake blue dress and Nasmine couldn’t help but agree that indeed, the woman was beautiful.
Right beside her was Matt who didn’t look a bit happy. Jasmine knew that he was going to be angry.
“Someone? I’m the Queen,” Jasmine corrected, glancing at her husband’s face to see his hostile look and even though her senses kept telling her to run away, she stayed back,
“Oh, the Queen,” she said slowly and bowed. She could detect that the earlier happiness that was present in her notice was gone immediately she heard that Jasmine was the Queen.
“And you are?” Jasmine enjoyed seeing the look of discomfort on Becca’s face. The woman didn’t need to state who she was for Jasmine to know it was her.
“Becca Wilde,” she said slowly, glancing at Matt whose Jaw clenched so tightly that Jasmine wondered if there was any other thing disturbing him.
“Nice to meet you, Becca. How’s your son?” Jasmine noted her last name, but after searching in her memories, couldn’t think of any influential member of the pack that she was related to and that brought her the idea that Becca was just an ordinary woman.
But why would he cheat on her with an ordinary woman?
Jasmine was studying Becca’s, thoroughly enjoying seeing the woman try so hard to be composed.
“Get out!”
Jasmine’s brown knitted in confusion as she wondered how and why he would tell her to get out.
“What?”
“I said, get out, Jasmine!”
