Chapter 76

Maria sat on the sofa tapping her legs impatiently on the ground.Laura watches her with keen eyes.If had been days she had told Maria for them to leave but Maria had been persistent on reaching Alpha Jace first.She feared she doesn’t want to be caught by Jace when eloping with Laura.

“Look Maria,have waited enough,if he had wanted to make a move,he would have done that already”Laura said.Maria thinks for a while before nodding in conclusion.

“He hadn’t called me for the past two weeks,I think he isn’t in need of my services any longer”Maria said which makes Laura’s eyes glint with happiness.Finally,they would move on to finding her husband and child.

“Yes Maria,since your things have been packed,let’s leave today”Laura suggested while getting up from the sofa excitedly.

“Okay”Maria agrees and gets up from the sofa too.She heads to her bedroom and brought out a traveling bag.She had little things packed as she didn’t think they will be long there.Laura also didn’t argue because she knew they could get things in the human world too.

“Shall we”Laura said with a smile while Maria reluctantly locks the house door,keeping the keys under the door mat.Maria kept vigilant of her surroundings as they walked over to take a cab.They boarded a cab which takes them near the lining.They walked through the forest until Laura sees a familiar water dropping.The lining looks like a waterfall that depicts the water not actually falling.Maria puts her finger into the lining and sees that it had entered freely.

“Come on”Laura urges her and together,they walked into the prohibited realm.Maria closes her eyes before they stepped into it and after some minutes,she opened her eyes.She looks around and sees they were still in the forest.

“I thought it would have been different”Maria said while gazing around the surroundings.

“No Maria,everything seems the same,come on let’s explore”Laura said and begins to walk over from the lining.Maria hesitated at first but later followed behind her.As they keep walking,they neared the streets of the city.Laura was familiar with it well so she wasn’t having trouble finding her way.They reached the street and Laura stops,looking around everywhere.Cars sped past them which made Maria amazed.She hadn’t known her world will be so similar to the human world also.So many tales had been said about the human world but none seems to be the truth.She had heard the human world was less civilized and cars are yet to be invented but she’s seeing something completely different.

“You see Maria,all of it all are tales,humans seems just like us”Laura said when she sees Maria had fixated her gaze on the cars passing by.

“I see now”Maria said while nodding in agreement.

They walked through the road and eventually get a car to take them to the city.Laura had done the talking with the man who drove the trunk and Maria only smiles awkwardly at the middle aged driver.

“I bet you ladies are going for a trip huh”The man had said while eyeing the bag Maria held.

“Yes,we are actually coming back from one”Laura had said to keep the conversation going.

“Nice”The man said and kept his eyes back on the road.

After some minutes of driving,the man stops at a filling station to buy gas.He inserts the gasoline into the fuel filler and left it to fill.He goes inside the mini store there to get himself snacks and whisky.He came out with hands full of sealed snacks and Maria watches with amazement.Everything looks just the same.Maybe the products were different but everything were just a like.

“Sorry for that ladies”The man said while he gets back on the driver’s seat.

“You would like?”The man hands out one snack to Laura and she took it from him.

“Thank you”Laura said and opened the nylon.Maria watches her with her mouth wild opened.

“What”Laura whispers when she notices Maria’s gaze.

“Nothing”She said and faces back the front.Laura knew she had stared at her because it’s unusual to get stuffs from strangers back in their world.

After another hour of sitting quietly in the trunk,the car makes a stop.Laura saw they had gotten out to the city completely.There were rows of crowds striding on the road,everyone minding their business,many cars passing by them.Maria gazed up to see the tall skyscrapers,completely mesmerized with how similar everything was with her world.Laura got down first then followed,Maria.Laura had paid the man and the trunk driver flashed them a smile before driving off.Laura sees how her friends stares in wonder at everyone passing by them.With the way she stared,some passerbys had thought of her as weird and they also stared back at questioningly.

“Stop staring Maria,they will think you are weird”Laura said and Maria nods.They walked through the city like naturals.No one could ever had thought of them as no human unless they transformed.

“We need to find a place to sleep tonight Maria,we should go to a motel,it’s getting late”Laura said and Maria agreed.She couldn’t disagree anyways as she was the novice in the strange world.Laura leads the way to a motel and get a room booked for them for the night.

“You going on a trip huh”The receptionist there had said while chewing rashly on a gum.

“On yes”Laura had responded with a smile.

“Girlfriends?”The receptionist asked while eyeing Maria from the back.

“No,no she’s a friend”Laura explained as the woman had mistook them for lovers.Maria had no idea what the receptionist had meant but only smiled when she sees the woman looking at her.After they were given key to their room,they head towards where it is.Laura finds it and inserts the key into the keyhole.She turns it and the door opens.They went in Maria heaves out a sigh of relief.

“What a day”Maria sighs and lands on the bed.

“I told you,you were scared for nothing Maria,Alpha Jace can’t come find you here”Laura reassured Maria again which kept her mind pretty much at ease.She stares at the ceiling while the thought of exploring filled her mind.She at once regretted packing light.
