Chapter 27

Chapter 27
"No! No! No! It can't be..." Jasmine said, color slowly leaving her face as she stopped running. She was looking really pale. She pressed her hands against her forehead, trying to calm this headache that started upon seeing Becca.

She stood face to face with this newly found enemy and felt dazed. She could see the world going in circles and more circles and more circles... as the two unfriendly faces hovered over her now almost- unconscious body. She tried to fight back the tears almost choking her as she kept batting her eyelids. She felt hurt and betrayed. At same time, she felt relieved. Having to know that she was never wrong to have thought that her husband's so called sister had ulterior motives and was being dishonest.

How she badly wanted to tell Matt to his face that she had always been right about his _sister_

"You... I wouldn't have thought it could ever be you!" Jasmine managed to say, still surprised.

_But what does she even want with me?_

"What have I ever done to you?" Jasmine had dared to ask before thinking better of it. It was rather too late to take back the question as the question was already out in the still air.

Becca looked at Jasmine with feigned pity and said, "Do you think everyone's cool with you being a Queen?".

Staring intently at Jasmine, she added, "If you ever thought we all were, then you'd need to have a new mindset".

"Get the knife, I need to get every bit of power left in her", she said with an evil grin plastered across her face.

"Hurry!" she commanded, speaking to people Jasmine could not see.

Jasmine watched in the blink of an eye as this lady hovering over her took the form of three people in less than split seconds. Jasmine saw her step mother, Leila and Becca in just one body.

They were all approaching Jasmine with the knife.

_No! No! No..._ Jasmine screamed, dreading the worst.

"Your highness! Your highness!" called out a voice from afar, leaving Jasmine to wonder how many more voices were to be uncovered.

She could feel someone tugging and pulling at her dress.

Opening her eyes, she saw Cara and was in bewilderment.

"No, not you too", she cried out gasping for breath.

Cara saw how terrified the Queen was by her presence and couldn't help but feel hurt by it. She looked at the Queen and judging by her soaked clothes, pillow and bed sheet, she could guess that the Queen had had a long and very unpleasant night.

Cara thought of what she could do to allay the Queen's fears and worries and finally came up with something.

"My Queen, it was only a dream, a night mare... Whatever you saw Your highness, wasn't real". Cara said soothingly but to her surprise the queen didn't flinch not to talk of batting an eyelid.

Queen Jasmine stared at Cara trying to make sense of what she had just said.
_It was all a dream?_

"So none of that was real?" she muttered, slowly regaining her consciousness.

"Yes, My Queen. None of it was real" Cara responded gently. Cara felt pity for the Queen, at same time curious to know what the Queen had seen to have really terrified her to the point of crying.

Cara knew she had to be with the Queen until asked otherwise as she knew that the Queen had experienced in a short while something really traumatic and needed all the company she could get. At least, until she's able to make sense of anything.

They sat in silence, each in their own world, reminiscing over what had happened.

Soon the Queen was back to her cheerful self. She reached out to Cara's hand and gave her a soft, gentle squeeze.
"Thank you Cara, I honestly don't know what I'd do without you" a wide smile ran across her lips as she looked at Cara.

_Finally a smile..._
Cara smiled back, happy that she could help uplift Queen Jasmine's mood but more pleased that the Queen was back to her normal bubbly self.
