Chapter 64

Maria stood rooted as she regrets agreeing on working with Jace.Her secret wasn’t something to be too afraid of anyways.Afterall Frederick Hall has been dead years ago and she has little care for her bastard daughter anymore.When she got recomposed,she quickly picks up the bottle of water from the table and gulps down almost all of its content.She heaves a sign of relieve with how calming the chilled water was.

She sits and then begins to pair everything Mina had said together.She shook her head to keep the thought out of her mind as she thought it was none of her business since she wouldn’t be having anything to do with neither of them again.

The doorbell she heard jolts her out of her thought and she wondered who it was.She stands up and walk hesitantly to the door.Before she could open it,she thought of the possibility that the person behind the door might be Jace and he’s here to kill her because he must have thought she betrayed him.She stayed still with her hand on the doorknob not turning it.She shrugs as she remembers she had rejected Mina’s offer and she could explain all to him.She sighs and turns the doorknob for the door to open.Her eyes wildens as she sees Laura standing in all her glory,with hands in her coat pocket while she had sunshades on.
She wondered why Laura seems to appear right after Mina leaves.

“Aren’t you letting me in”Laura said after seeing Maria standing rigidly at the entrance not making an attempt to move from the way.

“Oh…sorry”Maria said and lets out a short laugh before moving out of the way so Laura could go in.She closed the door behind them and enters.

“I wasn’t expecting you here”Maria said as she recalls their last conversation and Laura saying that she was leaving.

“You don’t want me here huh”Laura says as she stares seriously at Maria.

“Of course not Laura,look I’m sorry about that day”Maria said while looking apologetically at her friend.Laura only sighs with her brows raised up.She takes a seat on the sofa so did Maria.

“I’m still here to convince you Maria,you could be better,she could live your life in a very perfect way that doesn’t include your greediness for wealth”Laura was the last part with distaste evident in her expression.Maria looks down at the floor,not staring at anything in particular.She was also tired of all that’s going on and she wants to let go and just run far away from Nighthawk.

“Let’s do it Laura,let’s leave together to wherever you are going to”Maria said and Laura’s face lit with happiness.

“Really….”Laura said and quickly gets closer to hug her friend tightly.

“Thank you Maria”Laura said will still engaged in their embrace.

“I should thank you Laura”Maria said.She felt a tinge of tear stain her eyelids.Is she relieved to have given up her long dreamed wish?When they break away from the embrace,Maria sniffs and uses the tip of her finger to wipe the tears off.

“I’m sorry I haven’t been sincere with you Laura,I just wanted you to like me,I wanted you to have a good impression of me unlike the sneers I get from people who know me from the past”Maria said while twisting her fingers nervously.Laura grabs her hands and caresses it.

“It’s okay Maria,you will be free of all that soon”Laura said reassuringly to Maria.

“Thank you”Maria said and Laura nods.After she had calmed down,she felt she needed to explain about all her contract with Jace and how Mina had come earlier to meet her.

“I don’t know but I heard he is very cruel and he could have my head on a platter at anytime”Maria said while the thought of getting beheaded in cold blood scares her.

“Look Maria,have done all my researchs,Jace doesn’t have any reason to kill you now,in fact let’s make a plan so as to evade any problem he could cause in the future”Laura said and Maria motioned for Laura to continue.

“I want you to call him tomorrow,ask him if he’s no longer in need of your service”Laura said quietly.

“But….he doesn’t like me calling him”Maria said while still scared of what Jace’s tyranny would look like.

“I will be beside you all the time before we go away from her,you have to be relaxed and strong to get away from this mess”Laura said while her head was kept low staring intently at Maria.

“Okay then but what if he says he still wants a job done by me”Maria asked her friend.

“Either of the way Maria,you are evading him,I promise you”Laura said and Maria nods understandingly.

“So where are we going to Laura”Maria asked.

“It’s a world different from this world,we are going to the human world”Laura said and Maria gasps.

“What…Laura”Maria said with her hand still clasped on mouth.

“You know we are forbidden to cross the thin lines between the human world and here”Maria said.Laura looks down at her fingers as she bites nervously into her lips.

“Look Maria,the truth is I have a secret have been keeping away from you too”Laura said and Maria’s eyes wildens.She wondered what Laura feels so uneasy about to feel nervous about it.

“What is it”Maria said while looking intently into her friend’s blue eyes.He blonde hair was packed in a bun and she looks beautiful as ever.Maria knew she couldn’t ever compare Laura’s beauty to hers.Laura hesitates and begins to fiddle with her fingers like a teenager.

“I…I had gone into the human world when I was seventeen”Laura said and Maria’s face wildened again wondering why she had been kept in the dark all those years but then she remembered she had done the same,it turned out everyone has their little secrets to keep.

“I had a child with a human”Laura said and Maria couldn’t stop to force that pulled her out of her seat.

“What !”Maria shouts as she stares at Laura.It turned out the true secret she had been keeping unknown seems so much like her friend’s.
