Chapter 23
Sometimes, Matt wondered if Jasmine was as pure as she appeared to be or if there was something she was hiding or holding back from him.
For example, he had been told seven years ago that the children she was carrying were powerful and that they had certain powers that the goddess bestowed on a few people, once in a thousand years. But the children had come out even plainer.
When that morning, a maid had informed him that she wouldn't be joining them for breakfast, he frowned, wondering if it had to do with the fact that Becca was going to be here any minute. Perhaps, she had gone out to think it something.
After breakfast, he was just about to go pick Becca up when he saw that her driver was at the mansion.
"Why are you here? I thought you went with the Queen.."
"No, your highness," He had replied, averting his gaze. The poor man wasn't aware that his wife must be been cheating on him," the driver thought.
"Oh, so who went with her?"
"Her personal maid, your highness. She went with her."
Matt thought about it for a while. He knew that nothing about the woman's life concerned him anymore. He felt as though what he was looking for wasn't with her, but somewhere else.
He nodded but said nothing and made his way to his own car where his driver was already waiting.
He was lost in thought as they drove until the car jerked backward, making him jolt up and breaking his chain of thoughts.
"What..,"
He was looking at a beautiful woman in front of the car.
"I'm sorry, Your Highness, I didn't see her," The driver explained, but he wasn't listening, his entire focus was on her.
He got out of the car and walked towards her. His wolf who had been quiet for the longest time suddenly began to purr and he frowned. It wasn't supposed to be so, but he couldn't even stand still as he felt his legs moving on their own accord towards her.
"Your Highness!" The woman exclaimed. She seemed oddly familiar and his heart clenched painfully as he glanced at her.
"Who are you?" he found himself saying before he could stop himself.
Her smile widened. "You mean, you don't recognize me?" She didn't bow, which was surprising if she knew him as she claimed.
The driver was already out of the car by now, confused at what was going on in front of him. He had expected the king to be extremely pissed, but with what was going on in front of him, the king was anything but angry.
"Your Highness," he said nervously, but the king ignored him.
"I'm sorry, who are you? I tend to forget things sometimes. I don't mean beautiful women like you, I just don't understand how I forgot.." he kept rambling on like an idiot, making the woman's smile widen as she stared at him.
He had never felt so drawn to someone and it was now he finally understood the mate bond, one's soulmate, sent specially by the moon goddess.
"It's me, your highness. I'm Rose. You and your wife, my so-called evil stepsister imprisoned me years ago."
Matt's Brow pulled into a frown. He couldn't believe what he was hearing. The woman whom he had arrested years ago, who had deceived him was this same woman who was making his heart beat? The moon goddess must be playing a sick joke on him.
Even though his heart and body wanted to remain with her, he just couldn't. She was a dishonest woman and if she could pull such a con on him, then there was nothing she couldn't do. He couldn't be with her.
"Your Highness," she called out, just before he could step into his car.
He didn't turn to her, he just halted in his tracks, wondering why it was just now he was feeling such a bond towards her. He was supposed to have felt it since, after all, she had been with him for a long time.
"Don't you want to know what really happened seven years ago?"
He scoffed. She was a dishonest person, she probably wanted something from him and that was it, and despite the fact that he was trying hard, his wolf was trying to link with hers.
He turned around to face her now. "Yes, what happened? You betrayed your sister and you're a very shitty person and I punished you for it. End of story."
She chuckled and shook her head. He wanted to ask her why she was here but then realized that He had already passed the pack's territory and she was only forbidden from stealing foot inside the pack.
"You let Jasmine deceive you over and over again. Does she look that innocent? Or you simply refuse to see the truth when it's right in front of you."
"You must take me for a fool," He realized that she too would've felt the bond.
"What witchcraft did you do this time around?"
She laughed so loud that he frowned, wondering if He had said something that was so funny.
"Witchcraft? No silly!" She sighed. "I'm not the witchcraft monger. We all know who is."
"Are you going to blame it on your mother again?" Matt remembered how when she was caught, she kept blaming everything on her mother.
"No, no. The person has been beside you for seven years. I can't say I've never used witchcraft, we've all used it at one point in our life, but it's nothing compared to Jasmine. If there's a little hiccup, she's going right there. Oh, the times you'd think she was somewhere important, she was probably consulting her witch."
Matt watched her as she spoke. He didn't want to believe her, but something in him was itching to believe her.
"Oh, words outside is that you're both having marital problems, then I bet you that she's with her witch now."
