Chapter 24
Aurora's POV
“Why isn’t she answering my calls?” I asked, a little frustrated as I tried to press the call button.
“She’s probably busy,” Dante replied, trying to be understanding. “You know how busy she is with her work. Maybe he didn't have time to look at his phone.”
I nodded, realizing that Dante was probably right. Molly was often caught up in her busy work. However, my curiosity and hope to share this happy news remained. I hoped she could hear and feel my joy, especially at times like this.
“Yeah, maybe you’re right. I just really wanted to share this news with her, especially about the gender of the babies,” I said while looking out the window, hoping to feel her presence even though we rarely see each other.
“Try again later, maybe she’ll be more accessible when she has free time,” Dante suggested gently. “If necessary, write a note and tell her how much this news means to you.”
I nodded, then decided to send a text message. “Molly, I have some happy news! You’re going to be an aunt to twins—a boy and a girl! Can’t wait to celebrate together!”
After sending the message, I felt a little relieved. Knowing that this was news that would make her happy was enough to lift my spirits. I was sure she would be happy to hear this news, even if it took a while for her to get an answer.
With that, I turned and looked at Dante, who was smiling. “Thank you for supporting me,” I said sincerely. “I know I can be a bit emotional sometimes, but this lot to me.”
“It’s okay, Aurora. This is our journey together. I’ll always be here for you, and we’ll get through this together,” he replied, giving me renewed hope and confidence that we could face whatever was to come.
As I was about to leave, I was surprised to see someone I didn’t want to see—my ex-boyfriend, Robert, in the hospital. He wasn’t alone but was accompanied by Laura, my former best friend. Seeing the two of them together, anger and hurt surged through me again. They were both traitors I shouldn’t have trusted.
My eyes briefly fell on Laura. Her stomach was slightly bulging, and a thought crossed my mind—could she be pregnant? Mixed feelings arose, creating a storm of emotions within me. It felt like everything that had happened between us was reminding me of a wound that hadn’t fully healed.
“Aurora, I’m glad to see you,” Laura said, her sweet voice piercing my heart.
Tch, I don’t care about them at all. This is the wrong time to be kind. I just feel angry and disappointed. “Happy?” I replied coldly and cynically. “Oh really? How happy are you to see your best friend and ex-boyfriend betray you?”
Robert looked surprised and tried to explain, “Aurora, wait. We’re here to—”
“For what, Robert? To tell me that you two are happy without me? Or to classify your blessings?” I replied sharply, letting out all the feelings that had been pent up all this time.
Laura seemed to want to defend herself, but I didn’t want to listen. “I don’t want to hear your excuses or stories. I’m here for my own business. So, if you’re okay with it, you can probably leave,” I said, setting a boundary.
With all the courage I had inside me, I turned and walked away. My heart was shaking, but this time, I didn’t want to get caught up in unnecessary drama. My feelings would be destroyed if I continued to deal with them. I preferred to protect myself and focus on the more important things in my life—the babies growing inside me, and the relationship I was in with Dante.
Once again, I resolved to focus on my future and forget about the betrayal that had happened. After all, I had far more valuable things to think about.
“Come on, why do you care about them anyway? Let’s just go home!” Dante said, his voice soft but firm as if he knew how emotional this situation was for me.
“I don’t want to talk to them,” I replied, with a sense of firmness flowing in my voice. “Why should I waste my time on people who have betrayed me?”
Dante nodded, understanding my feelings. “I’m here to support you, not them. So, let’s go and leave all that behind. You don’t need to think about them anymore,” he said, trying to give my still-shaken heart some peace.
Gratitude filled my heart to have Dante by my side, someone who was always ready to defend me and encourage me. “You’re right. There’s no point in wasting energy on people who are not worthy in my life,” I said as I took a deep breath, feeling the emotional burden slowly disappear.
We turned and walked towards the exit of the hospital, leaving all the drama behind. With each step, I felt lighter, as if I could let go of everything that was painful and unnecessary. All I could think about was the future, my three babies, and what was to come.
“Thank you, Dante. I appreciate you so much,” I said sincerely, looking at him with deep gratitude.
“Always, Aurora. We’ll get through this together. Now, focus on the good stuff. We’ll create beautiful moments after all this.”
And as we left the hospital, I felt it—a renewed sense of hope and a belief that I could handle whatever came my way, thanks to the people who supported me on this journey.
As time went on, I truly learned to love Dante. He was a different person than I had ever known before. With every step we took together, I began to realize how kind and caring he was to me.
Every day, he went out of his way to make me feel comfortable and happy, putting me first. Whether it was preparing meals, taking me for walks, or just listening to me vent about everything—Dante was always there. He was not just a partner, but a friend I could count on.
