Chapter 59
Aurora's POV
Dante sighed, as if he was trying to find the right words. “We’ve decided to part ways, at least for now. There’s a lot we need to talk about, and I want to make sure you’re both okay before we discuss anything further.”
The words filled me with a mixture of relief and more doubt. On one hand, I was happy to hear that he was putting us first, but on the other, I didn’t know what this meant for our relationship going forward. “So, what does this mean for us?” I asked, trying to understand.
“Aurora, I love you and Roline. The decision to marry Molly was something we made on a whim,” he replied, his eyes searching mine for understanding.
Seeing the seriousness on his face, I felt the tension begin to ease. Amidst all this complexity, we had a common goal—bringing happiness back into our family. “Right now, the most important thing is Roline. We need to focus on her and keep her healthy so she can grow up well,” I said, trying to come to an agreement.
Dante nodded in agreement. “You’re right. Let’s do our best for her and make sure this communication goes well in the future.”
As a first step, I knew I had to build a new bridge between us. Although this journey was not easy, my hope was that our love would continue to grow despite the uncertainty. We would fight for Roline, and for that, we had to be able to work together even in very complicated situations.
“Have you given Molly the money she asked for? And what was the money used for? Do you know where she has been all this time?” I asked, unable to stop myself from asking. There were so many questions that were bothering me, and all of them were about Roline and the condition she had been experiencing.
Dante looked at me, it was clear that my questions were stressing him out. “I… I don’t know much about it. Molly did ask for money, but I don’t know exactly what it was for. She said it was compensation for taking care of Roline,” he answered, his tone showing confusion.
My heart felt even heavier. “But look at Roline now! The doctor said she has stunting. And we know how different her growth and development are compared to Roland and Ronald!” I could barely contain the emotions that wanted to overflow from within me.
Dante shook his head, as if searching for an answer, but the uncertainty seemed to only make things worse. “I should have paid more attention, but it all happened so fast,” he said quietly, sounding regretful.
My frustration deepened. “How could you trust her so easily, Dante? These difficult days have made me think that she didn’t choose what was best for our daughter. Roline should have been given the best care and attention, not neglected in a condition like this!”
“And I feel so guilty too,” he said, his breathing heavy. “I didn’t want this to happen. This is a difficult situation.”
“I understand, but we can’t just stand here and let this continue. We have to take action and make sure Roline gets all the care and attention she needs. We need to monitor this going forward,” I said, trying to keep our focus on our family’s recovery.
Dante nodded, understanding more and more the importance of rebuilding the foundation for Roline’s health and happiness. “Okay, we’ll work together. We need to do what’s best for her. I’ll make sure we can meet her needs.”
“Rest assured, I’ll fight for it. “Roline will get all the love and attention she deserves,” I said, determination filling my heart. Together, we could make a real difference and give her a better future.
Looking out the window at the sky reminded me of the hope that could grow again even in the midst of a storm. With faith and love, we would fight for our daughter—no matter what the challenges.
Dante’s POV
I had made a very difficult decision and had to face the bitter truth—I agreed to marry Molly in order to get Roline back. In my mind, this was all a way to clear the way for my daughter to come back to us, no matter how disgusting it felt. As the brief wedding session went on, there was a sense of tension flowing between us, but all of that seemed to disappear when Roline was finally handed back to me.
However, as Roline was in my arms, my gaze fell on her poor physical condition. How sad it was to see my daughter who should have been fit and cheerful, now looking so weak. My heart broke thinking about how Molly could have left her in such a poor condition for all this time.
“Now, Roline is here,” Molly said defiantly, as if to show that she was in control of the situation. “But before you get too excited, I have to talk about money.”
“What’s the money for?” I asked, remembering the uneasy feeling that was weighing on my heart.
“Compensation for all the time I’ve taken care of Roline,” she replied firmly.
“Is that all?” My voice was full of disbelief. “This isn’t about money. This is about our daughter’s health and well-being! Roline can’t be bought.”
Molly tried to play it strong. “This isn’t just about buying Roline, Dante. This is recognition for all the work I’ve done to keep Roline safe and well-cared for. Raising a child isn’t easy.”
“Then why did it turn out like this? Roline looks so thin, and you said you took care of her. What kind of care did she get?”
Molly paused, unprepared for the question. An uncertainty clouded her face, and I could tell she had a lot to hide. I couldn’t let her get away with it.
