Chapter 62

Dante's POV
“I understand, and I want you to know that I have nothing to do with any of this. Everything I did was to fight for us, for Roline,” I replied, trying to be clear about my true intentions.
“So, everything that happened with Molly… was it because of the money you gave her?” she asked in a hopeful tone, though I could tell it was weighing heavily on her heart.
“Yes, I gave her money for Roline. It was all because she asked for it. Nothing else! I didn’t even know she was involved with illegal things. I just wanted to make sure our kids had what they needed,” I said sincerely.
Aurora took a deep breath, seemingly trying to process all the information she had just received. “But the police don’t see that, not now. They think you’re involved in something bigger,” she said in a shaky voice.
“I can’t let this break us, Aurora. We have to stay strong and united. If we’re together, we can get through this,” I said, looking into her eyes with hope.
“But now I feel uncertain. Roline needs us, and I don’t want us to be apart any longer. I feel helpless too,” she replied, tears streaming down her cheeks adding to the sadness that enveloped the atmosphere at that moment.
Gently, I took her hand and patted it, trying to give her strength. “We’ll figure this all out. I promise that this isn’t the end of everything. We’ll find a way to get out of this,” I said firmly, trying to dispel the pessimism that was enveloping her heart.
Despite the difficult situation, I knew that we had to fight together for Roline and our family. I was determined not to give up, even though the road ahead might be very dark. Our love for each other and our passion to protect Roline were the fires that would give us strength.
I asked Aurora to contact my men and have them investigate the truth about this situation. “We can’t let this drag on, Aurora. I don’t want to spend any more time in prison for something I have no knowledge or involvement in,” I said, trying to convey the urgency of taking action.
Aurora nodded, her eyes still tired, but I could see the passion in her voice. “Okay, I’ll do my best to find out what really happened. We need to know the truth as soon as possible, so you can get out of here,” she replied, her voice steady despite our less-than-ideal situation.
As she left to contact my men, I reflected on the importance of knowing the facts before giving anyone money or trust. This experience had hit me hard and I realized I needed to be more vigilant. In the past, I may have felt immune and confident about everything, but that had changed drastically.
While in prison, even though the food was decent, my heart was not at peace. Missing my family and worrying about the future gnawed at me with every passing second. Every time I closed my eyes, images of Roline and the happy faces of my children came to mind. They were the main reason I had to survive and fight.
“I have to get out of here soon,” I whispered to myself, determined not to let her get trapped any longer. I knew that if I didn’t find a way out soon, this situation would only get worse. The plan to find Molly—or maybe Lia now—and solve the mystery behind her changed name and involvement in the dark world became a mission that had to be carried out immediately.
When night fell and silence enveloped the prison room, I prayed that the information obtained by Aurora could provide clarity and truth. I hoped so. Finding the truth was not only to fight for myself, but also to regain my family’s happiness. With that hope, I continued to fight inwardly, waiting for the time to rise from all the darkness that enveloped me.
Aurora’s POV
I really didn’t expect Molly to act like that. My mind was spinning, trying to understand all the lies and games she had played. Not a single word she said could be trusted, and the disappointment came like a storm. The fact that she had trapped Dante in this situation made me angry and devastated at the same time. I couldn’t let all of this go away.
When I thought about all the losses I had suffered, I felt determined to help Dante get out of prison. I didn’t want to let him suffer any longer for something he didn’t do. A plan to free him started to form in my mind. Soon after all this, I felt a glimmer of hope that we could be together at home again and fight for Roline and a better future for all of us.
On the other hand, while I was focusing on Dante, I also had to give enough attention to the kids. Roline, Roland, and Ronald needed my presence more than ever. They were just starting to adjust to this situation, and I didn’t want them to feel abandoned.
**While I was contacting Dante’s lawyer and friends to strategize his defense, I also made time to spend time with the kids. ** Every moment we spent together was precious, and it helped distract them from all the noise going on outside.
“Let’s draw a picture for Dad,” I told them, taking out paper and crayons. Seeing their enthusiasm as they drew, my heart lifted a little. Roline looked cheerful as she tried to draw her own picture, while Roland and Ronald were so excited to draw together.
But somewhere in the back of my mind, I still felt anxious about what was happening to Dante. With every scribble, I prayed that everything would soon get back on track, that our family could be reunited.
After a few days of talking to the lawyer and making sure all the necessary paperwork for the legal process was completed, I felt a glimmer of hope. Soon, I received word from the lawyer that new evidence was emerging that could be the key to freeing Dante. A sense of relief began to wash over me, and I continued to push forward to do what was best for my family.
