Chapter 80

Aurora's POV
Even though the road is long, I will fight for my family, creating new memories and carrying on my mother’s teachings. That way, even though she is no longer physically present, the love and legacy she left behind will live on in our hearts. We will go through this together, and even if obstacles come, I am determined to continue the love she instilled in us.
That day, I decided to go to a bakery I had visited before. The peanut cookies they sold were delicious, and when Dante brought them yesterday, the kids seemed to really like them. I wanted to take some home for them, so I set off without Dante with all my cheerful kids.
As we walked through the store, the atmosphere inside was warm and pleasant. I invited the kids to choose the cookies they liked, and seeing them smile made me feel happy. As we were all having fun, suddenly, from the corner of the store, I saw someone.
“Robert?” The voice slipped from my lips without me realizing. He stood there, holding Roline in his arms affectionately, his smile warm as he looked at us. Robert was my ex-boyfriend, and even though time had passed, seeing him reappear brought back many memories.
“Roline, you really do resemble my daughter with Laura,” he said, shaking his head with a smile. Seeing them together gave me a sense of nostalgia, but it also made me feel uneasy. Memories of the past swirled in my mind, and it felt strange to see each other again after so long.
After a brief chat with Robert, I proceeded to pay for all the cake purchases. However, as I handed over the money, the cashier informed me that Robert had already paid for everything. “He already paid for you, ma’am,” the cashier said in a gentle tone.
“Huh?” I felt surprised and quickly turned around, looking at Robert. “Why did you do that? I can’t…” I said, feeling discomfort well up inside me. An uneasy feeling welled up in my heart, especially since this was a familiar excuse. He was my ex-boyfriend, and while there was no lingering feelings between us that could be brought up again, I didn’t want to make it a burden.
Robert shrugged, “It’s okay, Aurora. Just think of it as a little gift for your kids. I know they’d love it.” His voice was calm and friendly, but I could sense a bit of complexity between us.
“Thank you, but I can’t let it happen. It’s too much,” I said, hesitantly. But he just shook his head and smiled.
“Don’t worry about it. Just think of it as a cake from an old friend,” he replied with a warm smile. Looking into his gaze, I felt a mix of gratitude for his kindness, but also a doubt that this was really the right thing to do.
In my mixed feelings, I felt that it was something that reminded us of the past. But I chose to distract myself. “Okay then, thank you,” I finally said, holding back my unease. “The kids will love it.”
We continued shopping and joking around, and Robert congratulated the kids. Seeing them excitedly brought a cheerful atmosphere back to life. As we finished our transactions, I tried to dig up some positive feelings, remembering that this was a time to have fun and create happy memories for the kids.
After leaving the store, I felt a little relieved, and the kids were excited to show me the cakes they had chosen. As we walked home, I was determined to enjoy this precious moment with them. Although the meeting had left an impression, I knew that the most important thing was to focus on the future and create happiness for my family.
When I arrived home, I was greeted with a smile from Dante. He had returned from work and seemed happy to see us. “Where have you been, honey?” he asked, curious.
“From the cake shop,” I replied with a little trembling enthusiasm. “I bought a lot of cakes, Roline and the others really liked them.”
Before I could tell her more, Roline immediately jumped forward and said, “Earlier we met a good uncle! He carried me and also bought lots of cakes for us!”
Hearing Roline’s words, Dante’s face suddenly looked serious. “Good uncle? Who is that?” he asked in a tone that showed a different spectacle. Hesitantly, I knew that he was referring to Robert.
“Eh, that’s Robert, my ex-boyfriend. It’s nothing serious, Dante. He just happened to be there,” I said, trying to calm him down, but I could see the frown on his face.
“So, he’s the one who held Roline’s hand?” Dante looked at me, a hint of jealousy in his eyes. Roline seemed oblivious to the tension that had suddenly appeared in the room.
“He didn’t do much, just helped me when he saw us in the store,” I replied, speaking softly trying to explain. “I didn’t mean to worry you.”
Roline didn’t understand all of this and instead continued to praise, “But, Good uncle is so cool! He carried me and made me feel comfortable!”
Hearing Roline’s compliments about Robert, I felt an uneasy feeling between us. “Roline, everyone is good, but the most important thing is whether we love and support each other as a family,” I said, trying to make the values I was trying to convey clearer.
Dante still looked a little jealous, but I could feel him starting to calm down. “But why does he have to carry you?” he asked a little skeptically, and I didn’t want this situation to drag on.
“Dante, Roline is just trying to remember her childhood innocence. We should be grateful that she can meet good people who want to help her,” I replied, trying to calm the atmosphere.
Finally, Dante sighed, showing that he was trying to understand. “Okay, I get it. But I still don’t like hearing my children being praised by other people,” he said, a smile forming on the corner of his lips even though there was still tension in his voice.
