Mariam’s POV

Everything happening is just like a movie, what will I do to get out of this mess?

I decided to drive today leaving the driver half way, “Take this, look for a taxi and return home.”

“My queen,is risky for you to drive out alone.” The driver refused to leave.

“I command you as your queen,I need to get some time to myself alone, I guess you know the meaning of privacy?”

“Yes I do, but.”

“No but, the keys.” I took the key and waved at him before driving off.

I drove at a very high speed and Clara stopped me, “You need to stop driving, at this rate you might end up killing yourself.”

“I just want to clear my head.” I replied her.

“You are about getting yourself killed, instead of driving and clearing your head, why don’t you focus all the energy to train.” She spoke very harsh to me.

“I will train but what is the assurance that I will win? Should I take advantage of the fact that Sylvester has feelings for me to win? That’s absurd and you know that.” I stopped the car.

“I know but that’s the only chance you got, I have a feeling he doesn’t wish to be part of this duel, so he can drop out and that will make you the winner.” I love Clara idea but I know for some reasons it’s not going to work out not when the queen is behind him,the queen will do everything possible to kick me out for good.

If I should seduce him out of the duel, what kind of a queen will that make me be?” A weak queen even if I posses the primordial wolf, no way,I am not going to be tagged as one.

My phone ringtone got my attention, checking the caller, it turned out to be Dave, is he back to Moon City? I would be glad If he is, so I will go to him, maybe he can tell me what to do as his fiancé.

I picked immediately and said to him to him before asking his whereabouts,” I just got to Moon City, don’t tell me you miss me already?”

“Yes I do miss you and I am facing a little problem as well.”

“Problem? Now I am back, I will offer you a solution, are you home so I will stop by?“

“Don’t come to the house, I would love to visit your family home here in Moon City.”

“Okay,if you say so,I will text you the address.” He ended the call.

I wished I could start living in Dave’s home at Dranovile with no one around,just the workers and get a break from all these troubles as a queen,truly my father did a great job leading them all these years.

I received his house address and turned my car around following the map description to Dave family home.

I spent hours driving and later realize Moon City is very big,other towns are also here that I have never heard of before.

I got to the building and my mouth dropped, though it’s not an estate but the mansion is top notch, simple and dark.

At the gate it was imprinted,“The Nightwalkers.” I love the vibes.

The gate got opened by the security present and when I stepped out I saw Dave wearing a white sleeve and didn’t button up to the neck waiting for me with a beautiful smile.

“I missed you.” He hugged me and I felt a little comfortable.

“My father is not home,I hope you will come visit again so we can have dinner together with my family.”

“Sure,I would love to interact with my in-laws, anyway,can we go in now?” I questioned and he nodded.

He showed me around and filled my eyes with amazing things making me forget I came here to tell him about my problem.

I sat in his room when he left to get me some yogurt in the fridge and snacks as well.

I looked at the pictures on the wall,Dave has always been handsome growing up.

“That is embarrassing.” He said.
“No,it is not,I love what I am seeing.”

“Hum,here you go,this should calm you down.” He passed me the yoghurt and I thanked him.

“So tell me my queen,what exactly is troubling you? Did something happen for the few days I was aware?” He asked me caressing my hair and restyling it.

“I have to prove myself worthy as the Queen, Dave,I am so scared I might fail.”

“What do you mean prove? You are the queen already and no one is going to take that from you.” I love the fact that Dave always knows how to encourage me but this very mess I am,I don’t think encouragement can save me.

“I mean I am going to be having a fight duel with Sylvester my step brother during the next full moon.”

I read his expression immediately I finished my statement and it looks like he is scared,this shows I am not capable of winning at all,then what else is it for me? Die trying or give up while I still got the chance.

“A duel? That happened for a long time ago,I can’t believe it will happen again.”

I got interested to know more so Inquired from him getting closer to him,“Tell me about it.”

“I heard the story from my father,a decade ago,the late king had two sons from two different wife on the same day and they had to choose the king,it was difficult so they decided to train them together and a duel was set when they became adult.”

“I guess theirs is more understandable,they trained them together from when they were kids unlike me that had no training at all.” My countenance became sad.

“It’s not over yet my love,we still have enough time to train,I promise to prepare you for the combat,I believe you can do it.” He kissed me slowly and we both fell to the bed.

I finally got my confidence back and headed home to face the worse,I can do this,I am going to train harder.

I got informed Queen Rebecca requested to see me alone at the garden, what is she planning this time around? Is she going to frame me up again? I won’t let that happen anyway.

“Greetings Queen Rebecca.” I greeted her even if I am still upset with what she did.

“Save your greetings Mariam.” She gave a savage response to me.

“You asked to see me,may I know the reason?”

“Yes,I needed to look at your face of defeat so I can feed on it.” I can’t believe this old lady,she called me out just to make fun of me? Do I look like a joke to her? She is lucky she is older and stronger than me,if not,I would have taught her a serious lesson.
“With all due respect,did you request to see me just because you wish to insult me?” I questioned her.

“Yes, that’s part of the reason I called you,I am funny right? Yeah I know,I am glad I got the opportunity to be this happy,it’s all thanks to you.” She said sipping from the glass cup of wine she held.
“If you don’t have any other thing to discuss with me my queen,I would love to take my leave.” I said in a polite manner and she said,“You are not permitted to leave until I ask you to, except you want the world to know how your disrespect your step mother because you are the queen.”

What does she want from me? I am getting frustrated already.

“What do you want from me?”

“Tell me,when are you going to meet your father and tell him you wish to drop out since you can’t do the duel?”

“And who said I am not participating in the duel?”

“Your look the other day told me so,you cried remember? A queen that wails.” She laughed and this made feel like reaping out her heart.

“I am not giving up,I am going to prove to everyone, especially you,that I am capable and worthy of the title as well.” I replied with boldness.

“I see you are confident,well I love that I won’t lie but don’t waste your energy on it when you will lose,you probably have no one teach you about your primordial strength.”

Is she crazy? My father will train me on everything I would be doing,“My father will do that.”

“Seems you are ignorant of all the rules guiding the duel to be a success, your father is not allowed to train any of you,the only trainer you can get is your mother, oops,you have no mother making you empty,no one will train you,if you can’t defeat me and I train my son,then you are doomed.” She mocked me and tears rolled down from my eyes,how I wish my mother were to be alive,she would fight the queen for me and also train me.

I am nothing useful,why does my life have to be filled with self pity all the time?

I left without saying a word to her,I need to look for a place to cry out my eyes when I collide with Sylvester.

I can’t let him see that I am weak or crying as well,“I heard you came to the garden,we need to talk.” Sylvester said to me.

“Whatever you have to say to me,say it now.” I acted tough.

“I need you to back down from the duel,if I become the king,I promise I will protect you and make you my special queen,I don’t wish to ever see you hurt.” He said to me trying to hold my hands but I hit him off.

Truly like mother and son, they both plan to ruin me by wanting to talk me out of the duel, never, “Sylvester,I am not afraid of you,on the day of the duel,I will not gp easy on you and also don’t go easy on me,excuse me.” I walked away angrily running to the woods nearby to cry out my eyes.
