Chapter 218: Where Is She?

Chapter 218: Where Is She?

Adriano

"I am not going to ask you again, Nick Myers." I stared blankly into the eyes of the captive man in front of me, drawing my lighter from my pocket until its burst of orange flame became a flickering glow in the otherwise dark room.

He barely even flinched at the action but that was okay. If time has taught anything, it is the importance of having patience even when you don't have much to spare.

"You see this?" He spat with a sharp turn of his head, the only part of his body he was still able to move. I already knew what he was trying to show me and I didn't give him the satisfaction of responding to his little speech.

The small tattoo of the three interlocked triangles were bound into a simplistic design behind the shell of his ear, only reminding me of the importance of this interaction and only fueling the urge to just send his body back as a message instead.

"My loyalty resides in the Lucas…."

"Oh, I know exactly who you are, Nick." I smiled but there was nothing nice about it. It is all a threat and I hope he can see it.

"You are forty-five years old, no current or past spouse, no children and barely a dime to your name from all of the debt you got yourself into as a teenager."

At this, he gave the first sense of emotion, clearly caught off guard that my information on him goes that far back. When you have somebody locked up down here for two days without talking to them, it tends to give some time to figure out who they are. Gregorio figured out his name within an hour.

"Both of your parents live in a cute little house in Smogon but none of them are aware of your life working for Lucas Brown because you know they wouldn't approve of how you were able to pay for all the fancy jackets you put on for family dinner every Sunday at night."

His fingers twitched once against the steel of the chair he was bound to but it was enough to tell me he didn't like me knowing so much. This was the kind of information I could use to threaten him with his loved one as his motivation to comply. But I have learned that words are far more powerful than physical promise.

I could already see his head spinning with questions but he masked it well enough that my other person wouldn't have noticed. If Domenico could remain sober enough to get his ass down here, he would have been able to catch it.

"All that proves is that you have way too much time on your hands." He tilted his head slightly upwards, not liking the fact I was towering over him so greatly right now.

"But you know how I know about you?" He asked, not waiting for an actual response before continuing.

"I am sure your sources said it was a gambling problem that made my family go bankrupt but you know the truth."

The only thing is that I didn't. Gregorio knows how to find information better than anyone I know but if what I now suspect is true, I doubt even he would have caught this.

"And what is that?" I asked, bringing the lighter down to the pad of his thumb and letting the flame dance just out of contact with the skin.

The look in his eyes could only be defined as pure hatred as he met my gaze but I had a feeling he wasn't much of a liar about what he was about to say.

"Raphael Jaxson robbed my town blind and then swept us under the rug like we weren't even worthy of the dirt on his shoes."

Of course, it wasn't my father who stole from them, that would require him to dirty his hands. He was lying though, Raphael hired someone to take what he needed and it wasn't a surprise to find out it was covered up in such a way.

"My father…." I began, not appreciative of his memory at all.

"Is very much a dead man…." My words trailed off at the sound of the door opening behind me but only three people could get into this room and I was already here.

"You are freezing up again, Adriano." Domenico's controlled voice said as he walked silently into the room but I could tell he was high before he even came into view.

Nick's head jerked to my back as his eyes narrowed questioningly ans all I could do was clench my jaw as I stepped to the side.

"We were just getting to the good part." I said slowly as I put off the lighter in my hand but I didn't want to start a fight here in front of the listening company. It is not good for the enemy to realize just how strained things are on the inside.

Domenico lets out a disapproving scoff with a shake of his head but I don't stop him as he walks up to me so close I can feel his exhale against my cheek.

"Liar," Domenico murmured as his hand slipped down, taking the lighter straight from my fingers before stepping away.

Faking his death wasn't his choice, it was mine. Even though he understood why it needed to be done, he didn't like the idea of Camilla believing him to be gone. Urging the increase of my heart rate to calm down to normal, I crossed my arms as Domenico walked around the single chair in the room, stopping only at Nick's back.

"I don't know who you are." He began as his eyes dropped down to the tattoo of what they call the Resistance.

"And I did care about any sob story you can manage to whip up."

Nick let in a sharp inhale through his nose as Domenico flicked the lighter back open, his other hand weaving through the red locks of hair to keep him even more still.

The flame was brought to behind his ear, inching just close enough that he could feel the heat of it first before any serious damage could be inflicted. It was the promise of intent and it very quickly led to a thin sheen of sweat to form at the back of his neck. Domenico had a fire in his eyes that burned truer than the real one at the tips of his fingers. But it was me he was looking at as he spoke.

"You have something that I want and if you continue to keep up this facade of playing hero, I will burn every inch of your skin from your bones without sparing you a second thought."

These are the means he believes are necessary to get our girl back, uncaring of the fact this man was not the true enemy we were looking for. The amount of hatred to be heard in his voice told Nick he wasn't bluffing and I had every intention of playing along with this image if that is what needed to happen.

"Where is Camilla Ranger?" I ask the million dollar questions just the sound of her name hurting on my tongue.

It has been one year since I last saw her and it made me desperate enough to give Domenico control even in the state he was currently in. As the Don, things are as restrictive as I knew they would be. The chance of always getting my back is the only thing keeping me going.

"Fuck You," Nick spits in response but the words were broken by his scream as Domenico brought the lighter to his skin, holding his head still from jerking away under the burn.

I gave him a few seconds of this but I spread the fingers on my left side at Domenico to tell him to back off despite his urge to continue. His eyes challenged the command in disagreement but we both knew it wasn't his choice to make. Pulling away, he let his head loll forward, the man instantly pressing the back of his shoulder to ease the pain.

"It doesn't have to be this way." I play the role of the convincing leader, walking towards the chair before I was close enough to jerk his head up to look at me.

"Give me any kind of information that could help us and I will send you away with more than enough money to replenish everything Raphael stole from you."

Yet another mess of Raphael I had to clean up, it was as if it was his way of haunting me all the way from the bottom of the ocean where I had his ashes dumped. I ignored the face Domenico gave me in response to my proposal but sometimes agreements were the easier way. I just needed something, anything to tell me she was okay.

It was clear Nick didn't believe this but that still didn't stop him from asking.

"Any kind of information about Camilla and you will let me go?" He asked and just like that, the promise of money and freedom has him folding.

I saw the hesitancy but I also saw the hope of getting away from us. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if he was already thinking of the points he had learned from Lucas from learning Domenico wasn't dead.

"The better the information, the more money you will get." I nodded, not mentioning when we would be letting him go. At least the fear Domenico inflicted proved useful for one thing.

Taking a single step back, I let Nick's face go as the lighter was dropped down just slightly, burning away at the small hairs at the back of his neck. Domenico was clear in the fact he wasn't happy about the call, but he also knew it was always going to be me who has the final say. It was only when the fire got a little too close that Nick broke and it led to the lifter being removed all together.

"I want twenty million."

I didn't even bear a smile at the fact I knew we had him, staring back patiently as I waited for him to start talking. That price didn't even come close to hurting our account and it was the only reason Domenico backed off a little more, rejoining me at my side. He was much like me in his need for vengeance eating away at his soul but it was my job to know what battles to pick and choose.
