Chapter twenty-six: Job Offer

Chapter twenty-six: Job Offer

Domenico

"You are calling me a killer, darling?" I asked, shifting a bit closer to her body.

"Are you denying it?" She countered, this time looking me directly in the eyes.

Gosh, I really do like her.

"No, which is why I am sure you have many questions." I watched her reaction as I spoke.

"Feel free to ask aways."

Her eyes narrowed slightly, not seeming to believe my intention.

"You brought me out here to tell me whatever I want to know?"

"To an extent, yes."

She kept quiet for a moment and I just looked at me warily. She seems to be debating whether or not she believes me but it is not like she has a choice. Daniel won't be expecting her back for at least another thirty minutes.

"Fine, what did you do with the body?" She asked, jumping right in but I didn't answer immediately.

"Oh, one more thing I forgot to add." I ignored her question.

"I don't do anything for free." Her body grows tense once more.

"I don't have anything…."

"No, not an item. It is quite simple really. You ask a question and I get to ask you one in return."

"What would you ask me about?" I grinned at her uncertainty.

"You will just have to agree first to find out."

At the corner of my eyes, l saw my brothers have joined us. Each leaning against one of the columns behind Camilla. She can't see them and they make no move to make their presence known.

"Fine, deal."

"I asked my question and now you have to answer." I ignored her again, reaching my hand out to her but it only earned me a look of confusion.

"Shake it first."

Reluctantly, she moves her hand to meet mine and when she does, I take that opportunity to shift a little closer to her. For the third time today, our hands meet but this time, my other hand moves to check her pulse on her wrist. As predicted, it was racing, betraying her calm composure. She didn't move away from my touch as I had expected and instead seemed to relax slightly.

"We cremated him and then dumped the ashes in a river." I replied to her initial question.

At this point, she snapped out of letting her guard down and hastily pulled her hand away. My word clearly surprised her and judging by her reaction, I am guessing she didn't expect me to respond so honestly. She may not know me well but she will soon learn that I never break my promise.

Before approaching her on the dance floor, my brothers and I decided telling her what she wants to know is our best option. If she understands the situation, she might not feel as scared, meaning she may not be as inclined to go talking to others.

We will obviously be keeping an eye on her for a while to ensure she keeps her mouth shut but there is no need to be violent if we don't have to be. As she processed this information she continued to ask her next question.

"Who put my phone in my room?"

"Nice try, darling but it is my turn now."

She looked like she was about to say something but ultimately chose to hold her tongue instead. Gregorio was right, she is fun to mess with.

"I need the names of everyone you told about that night." She was quiet for a moment before responding.

"No one really, I wanted to tell the owner of the cafe I often visit but Nancy took my phone from me before I had the chance."

"Oh, you mean, Susan?" Shock became evident on her face.

"How did you know her?"

"Susan is our aunt." I watched her as the information clicked in.

"Does she know what you guys did?" She asked but I stopped her.

"You already asked your question, it is my turn now."

"What are you talking about? I never…."

"You asked how I knew Susan, hence it is my turn." I grinned at her annoyance but she knows I am right.

I will always stay true to my word but I have never been opposed to loopholes.

"Why hadn't you slept in the three days prior to that night?"

I had been wondering this since the police informed us of what she told them.

"That is really none of your business." She became instantly evasive and because of this, I am assuming her answer is a personal one.

Adriano takes a step forward from behind her but still doesn't get close enough for her to see him.

"Sorry but that is not how this works, darling. What was keeping you up all night?"

"I am sure Gregorio had already told you everything." She tried to avoid responding to me.

"I want to hear it from you."

She stared at me blankly for a moment before she responded.

"Fine, my boyfriend cheated on me, I am currently living in a hotel with a job that isn't giving me enough money to pay for it. I have no friends or family to stay with and now I am dealing with all this bullshit. It is fair to say that I have a lot on my table to deal with."

I opened my mouth to speak but she cut me off.

"No, it is my turn now, remember. That is how this works, right?"

I think I should reconsider the name darling and change it to spitfire instead. Under other circumstances, if she used that tone with me, she wouldn't be able to sit for a week but I can't help it, I like this of Camilla at the same time.

Holding my tongue, I allowed her to continue. I can see from the side that Gregorio is trying not to laugh and Adriano as usual shows no emotions. We

"How did my phone end up in my room?"

"Adriano snuck in and placed it there while you were sleeping."

She bites the inside of her cheek at this point but makes no further comments.

Then the two of them decided to make their presence known at this moment, walking up in front of us. She tensed and seemed to immediately become more alert.

"Mind if I sit?" Gregorio asked but she didn't look up to meet his eyes.

"I don't have a choice, right?" She moved a little bit on the couch, creating space for him to sit.

She was now sitting between Gregorio and I while Adriano sat on one of the chairs across from us.

"There is always a choice, sweetheart. You could get up and walk away now if you wanted to but you won't." Gregorio said.

"I can leave right now and you guys won't stop me?" She clearly didn't believe my brother's words.

"Only one way to find out but then you will miss the bid we have for you."

At this moment, her eyes narrowed in caution and she started to pick at the side of her nails again. I had noticed that she tends to do that when she is nervous or unsure.

"What is the news?"

"Are you going to stay here or not?" She hesitated before reluctantly nodding to Gregorio's question.

"You have gotten yourself a part time job." We all waited for her reaction but she didn't give one.

"What are you talking about?"

"You are going to be a bartender at our nightclub four days a week until we can trust you will keep that pretty little mouth of your shut." Adriano said and she looked at him to see if this was some kind of joke but she soon realized it wasn't.

"I am not doing any work for you." She stood up immediately.

I instantly grabbed her upper arm, not too hard but just enough to keep her from walking away. The motion caused her sleeve to ride up a bit, showing faint bruise marks around her arm. Gregorio can't see from his angel but I know Adriano noticed.

"Sit down," Adriano ordered but when he saw her flinch, he softened his tone.

"Camilla, please sit. I promise all we want to do is talk."

I don't blame her for being scared of him but his change in voice caused Gregorio and I to both look at each other in slight surprise. What even surprised us more was that Camilla listened.

"I am not going to work for you, I swear I won't say a word as long as I leave here unharmed and you let me explain to Susan what happened. I won't lie to her and she is already stressed out." She looked Adriano directly in the eyes.

For a moment, he didn't say anything and just stared down at her. I watched as Camilla shifted and crossed her legs together but she never broke eye contact. Fúck, I am definitely into her.

"You are going to work for us four days a week in exchange for allowing you to tell Susan everything. Or you can not work for us at all but we will just send others out to keep an eye on you anyway and you can't say a thing." Adriano presented her with two options.

She didn't move, contemplating his words.

I wondered which option she choses?
