Chapter 222: You Are Not Dead?

Chapter 222: You Are Not Dead?

Camilla

"Camilla?" I heard a soft knock on the door a few minutes later, no doubt caused by a large fit.

"Are you okay? I can get Stella if you would be more comfortable with that." Jacob offered, my feet carrying me back to the door.

"No, please don't." I sniffled as though I had been crying.

"This is so embarrassing, I just want to get back to bed if that is okay." I opened the door just a crack, reaching my hand out for the clothing he had retrieved for me. The second the dark material was in my hand, I let out a quiet sigh of relief.

"Thank you," I said as I took it ever so gratefully, letting the door close all over again behind me. Most of this plan relied on having my period make Jacob feel uneasy and lucky for me, this entire thing seemed to do the trick.

"I will wait here until you are ready." He said, doing exactly what he was supposed to do according to my father's order.

I doubt my father would have ever expected me to do this though. I didn't say anything as I pulled the new clothes on, making sure none of the paint got in my skin beforehand first. And when it seems I was all good, I took my time bringing the old clothes over to the sink, dropping them down on the counter before turning on the water on high. I put on the show of bashfully cleaning up what happened, knowing he was trying not to listen. Unfortunately for him, there was one last kicker I had planned to officially get myself out of here.

"Ouch!" I muttered not so quietly, turning off the sink and drying my hands with some of the paper towels.

"Are you okay in there?" He asked just like I expected he would, my arms wrapping around my stomach despite him not being able to see me.

"Just cramps." I sniffled again, hearing an obvious shift just outside the door.

"I know it is a lot but can you grab me some Aspirin from Andy's?" I asked, referencing the convenience store that was set up two floors above us.

It will be more than ten minutes' trip minimum and it was one I needed to happen. His contemplative silence told me he was reluctant to do it. Although, knowing it would be going against my father's direct orders to watch me for the night. I just needed something that would push him over the edge.

"And I can't wash all the blood out, could you maybe take these over to the laundromat instead of.

"Aspirin?" He groaned slightly on the other side of the door, causing me to smile in success.

I can practically picture him dragging his hand over his face thinking, why did I have to be here tonight?

"Yes, please. I will just stay here and try to keep washing the…."

I heard the shuffle of footsteps and I knew he was already leaving. It worked, my plan actually worked. You can never be sure how people react but Jacob was just about the perfect man to be watching me tonight. His absence should give me hopefully fifteen minutes to get out and onto one of the planes and I couldn't waste a second more.

Shoving my white pants down the garbage bin and cleaning up my mess, I crossed my fingers that Jacob would just think I returned to my room for the night and he would go looking for me there, spend five minutes knocking on my door. Every second counted and I was going to try and get myself as much time as I could. Glancing one last time at my braided back hair and newly dark attire, I stepped out of the bathroom room and was relieved to find nobody waiting for me in the halls. The hardest part was over and I knew I was finally going to be free.

Kumon City, here I come.

*********
Six hours later and in an extremely uncomfortable flight hidden in one of the storage cabinets, the vibration of the plane's wheels meeting concrete was enough to have my heart racing. I had no doubt my father had been notified of my absence by now and I needed to get out of here before one of the team members got the orders to search the plane and grab me on sight.

Honestly, I am pretty sure I didn't breathe a second until I was out undetected. There was still about three hours before I would have to leave to get into that damn church, two by the time I actually got a decent jacket and into some run down hotel twenty minutes away. Sleep this night was restless and not replenishing in the least and before I knew it, I was on the move all over again. Things had to go perfectly if I wanted this to work out because I knew if one thing went wrong, a domino effect would ruin everything in its path. It wasn't something I was willing to risk.

Triple knotting the laces on my boots, the hood of my jacket shaded my most important feature, making me look a lot larger than I was. These stupid shoes were the only tell tale of who I was but I didn't have the time or the money to buy new ones. The just have to do it.

With a full stomach from the breakfast I had ordered, a taxi was already waiting for me outside as I had requested over the hotel's phone last night. I hid my face as much as possible and had the man drop me off just a block away from the old church. If my father's information was correct, there should be a back entrance on the east side where the cameras that were supposed to be watching the area had broken years ago, neglected to be fixed.

It was the exact thing I took advantage of, though I did still keep my head ducked just in case. I didn't trust Gregorio to have not had it fixed of knowing him, he scanned the entire building himself prior to. But I definitely felt better when I opened the door and no alarms went off. It was about three hours before people should even begin to arrive and that is exactly why I froze in place at the sound of voices and a lot of them too.

I thought I would be the one to arrive early, to find a place to hide until after what I was hoping to be a fake ceremony. I wasn't the only one here and to top it off, the door had placed straight in the middle of an open hallway. The hairs on the back of my arms rose as u stood there, my skin tingling just as everything went quiet around me. That is when doors started to burst open, gunshots echoing off around me.

Fuck, my brain wouldn't even give me time to comprehend all of this. The door at my back locks from inside and I could see the shadow of a large figure moving from around the corner where I stood.

"Cami…."

I didn't let whoever was there complete their sentence, no matter how much I could already feel my body coming to life in their presence. Things were not supposed to be this way so I did the only thing I knew how to, I ran. Turning on my heel and my hood still in place, I took off down the hallway. My footsteps are nearly silent unlike the person at my back.

My heart shattered at the sound of my name being called in full right behind me but my body felt electrocuted at the feeling of a large hand grabbing onto my bicep, shoving me into a room to my right that turned out to be an extremely small closet.

"Darling?" My heart tore straight from my chest as the name rolled desperately off the man's tongue, shaking as I was pressed against a wall, two rough hands cupping my face.

"Domenico?" I forced down my sob as I breathed in the scent of him, not allowing myself to think about how he was shaking just as bad.

"Yes, Camilla." His voice trembles as his breath fans over my cheeks, one of his tears dripping onto my shoulders.

"Yes, yes, yes."

I had to bite my bottom lip as the light whirred on at our motion but I refused to look at him as each of his brutally perfect features became illuminated, his eyes so intensely focused on me. He went quiet as his knuckles brushed tentatively over my cheeks, tilting my head from side to side to properly look at me. I know he was confused when my eyes remained on the ground. If I looked at him, I think the entire world might just cave in around us.

"Camilla?" He whispered my name like it hurt him to say it and when I looked up into the killing beauty of his ocean blue eyes, I was thrown back to the sight of my mother's mutilated body by that hotel, her murder case having gone cold after not more than one week.

They didn't even do an autopsy.

"You are not dead?" I muttered.
