Chapter 36: Who Is Lucas
Chapter 36: Who Is Lucas

"Do you know where my phone ended up last night?" I asked, thinking I should probably call Nancy and let her know that I am right.
My voice broke them out of their frozen state and Adriano moved into the kitchen, removing his coat and placing it on the counter.
"Your bag is hanging on the elevator, you can go there and check." Gregorio responded, motioning behind him.
"Why don't you get Adriano to make you something to eat first?" He said, winking to Adriano in the kitchen before moving to sit at the kitchen island.
Adriano didn't say a word, he was just looking at me as if he was waiting for me to ask for something.
"Do you have malt and milk that I can mix together?" I asked, not wanting him to actually cook something for me.
He gave me a nod and went into the fridge to fetch out a bottle of malt and some yogurt and place them on the kitchen counter. Domenico went to make a coffee, leaving me on the staircase on my own. I felt a little out of place in this fancy house of theirs.
Adriano noticed my discomfort as he placed what asked for on what I presume to be their dining table.
"I can do that." I said as he rolled the sleeves of his shirt and began to pour the yogurt on a glass.
"Sit," he motioned to the one of the chairs next to Gregorio, ignoring my words.
I felt weird watching him do something but I soon found myself lost at the sight of his hand pouring the yogur. Is it weird to say that I find his hand to be attractive? Probably I don't know the reason. I moved from where I stood and took a seat two chairs apart from where Gregorio was sitting, creating a distance between us. The action caused him to smirk but he didn't say anything.
"Do you want some coffee?" Domenico asked and the smell of freshly made coffee filled my nose.
"That would be amazing," I replied and a second later, Adriano placed the glass mixed with yogurt and malt in front of me.
"Thank you." He nodded his head.
I had noticed that he isn't the talking type but his gestures speak for him instead. Picking up the spoon, I stirred at the content before bringing it to mouth and taking a sip.
"Where have you guys gone this morning?" I asked.
I thought of who this Lucas could be and why they were so tensed about him running through their minds.
"Eat first and we will talk about it." Domenico said, placing a steamed hot coffee in front of me.
The rich smell of it was enough for me to drop the subject but I still watched as Adriano cleans up the kitchen and Domenico pours some creamer on my coffee.
"Thank you." I said to him.
"How did you sleep?" Gregorio asked, watching me as I take another sip of my yogurt and milk mixed together.
"Very well, I didn't know a mattress could be that comfortable." He chuckled.
"I am glad to hear that." He said and stood up, walking away to a distant room.
He returned a second later with a pack of medicine in his hand. I thanked him and instantly took the pills and swallowed them. I went back to what was in front of me, I took a sip of the coffee before I noticed that the three of them were once again staring at me.
"What?" I asked, wiping the corner of my lips to see if there was anything there but nothing.
Adriano smirked at my reaction and then Domenico came up from behind me, toying with the sleeve of the t-shirts I was wearing.
"You look good in our clothes." He said before taking the medicine for himself.
With a little blush on my face, I looked over to Gregorio and Adriano and it seems my attire truly is the reason why they were looking at me. Even though I had knotted the shirt, it was still looking big on me and the fact that I had no bra didn't help my case. Adriano seemed to read my thoughts as a visible grin appeared on his face. It was that kind of grin that would make one's body chill but instead really made my body heated up.
Needing a break from their intensity, I stood up and began walking to where my bag was hanging on the wall. But I could feel Adriano's eyes on my back. I ignored it as I dug my hand into my bag and brought my phone out. Powering it on, I saw only two messages on the screen and it all were from Nancy.
'Hey girl, I don't want to freak you out but something was a little off in the house when I got home this morning.' That was her first message.
'It is nothing to worry about but I just thought I would let you know.'
My eyes narrowed as l read her messages, confused at what she meant by a little off.
"Hey, have you guys spoken to Nancy this morning?" I asked but when I looked up, it was only Domenico standing there. I didn't even hear the other two leaving.
"Are you done eating?" He ignored my question.
Looking at my almost empty glass and coffee mug, I nodded my head and moved to clean up my mess. I rinse off the glass and coffee mug and when I opened the dishwasher, I noticed that everything is well organized in a certain way. Raising my eyebrows at Domenico, he just smiled.
"That would be Gregorio, he likes things organized and can be a bit of a control freak."
"Seems like it," I murmured, looking at the dishes once again.
Trying to follow a similar pattern, I put the glass in line with the other and do the same with the coffee mug.
"Who is a control freak?" Gregorio asked, walking back into the kitchen with my dress folded on his hand.
"Apparently you." I gave him a smile, taking my dress from him. He leaned closer to the dishwasher and laughed.
"Only in the best ways, sweetheart."
When I turned to ask him what he meant, he was already moving into the living room with the same book he was holding from earlier. But now I was able to read the cover name 'How to Get Away with Murder.'
How funny, without saying anything about the book, I leaned against the counter and looked at Domenico.
"What is going on?"
Just as he was about to open his mouth to speak, Adriano walks in and my attention completely goes to him. He has changed his clothes from earlier into a business suit like the one he wore to the wedding. The jacket and the trousers were the same colour and he left multiple buttons undone at the top of the pink undershirt.
For the first time since I have met him, he was wearing a ring on each of his fingers and I have to admit that everything about him right now screams power. Realizing that I am staring at him, I snapped back into reality just to find him looking at me with a smug expression on his face.
"Nancy came home to her house this morning and smelled a men's cologne and it was one that she recognized." Adriano said and I was confused.
"But there was no sign of a break in and nothing was damaged or stolen from the house."
"Someone went inside and sprayed cologne and left?" I asked, this not being even close to what I imagined they were going to say.
"It appears so," Domenico said before looking at Adriano.
"It makes no sense, which is why Nancy called us this morning to check it out. That is where we had gone this morning."
I want to go back to make sure nothing of mine was stolen because there is no logic behind this. Then I remembered the name they mentioned this morning.
"Who is Lucas?" I asked and watched as the three of them stiffened.
"Where did you hear that name?" Gregorio asked from the couch, finally looking up from his book.
"I heard one of you say it when I was walking down the stairs."
I was even more curious to know who this mystery man is considering their reactions. They all stay silent for a moment, looking between each other as if they were having some silent argument.
"Who is Lucas?" I asked again.
If they think he was the one who went into the house, I think I have the right to know him.
"He is someone who has been on our radar for years." Adriano said and when I gave him a blank stare, he continued.
"He stole from us and is currently trying to steal more so we thought it could be a possibility that he was the one that broke into Nancy's house."
"But, the odds of it being him are highly unlikely." Gregorio added.
"He has no motive, no clue on who you are and believe me when I say he has higher priorities than walking into someone's house and spraying cologne."
"Okay," I said, not exactly sure what to say about that.
I think going home is probably the best option for me now.
