Chapter 100 Travel to Los Angeles
(Lina's POV)
"Raphael, would you be willing to invest in the Lester family estate if I find a way to get my father's fortune?"
I swear I was on the verge of going crazy when I said that.
Unless Rafael is crazy, he will never grant my request.
What was I thinking that was impossible to achieve?
I don't think there is any way to hide my anxiety anymore.
When I finished the sentence, I couldn't help but suck in a breath of cold air, and then, I walked quickly to Raphael's side and extended my hand to give him a big no gesture.
"Forget what I just said, Rafael, I think I must be sick to say something like that."
I rolled my eyes toward the ceiling, and when I finished, I planned to leave.
However, Rafael didn't seem to have any intention of giving me that chance.
He suddenly reached out and took my wrist.
I turned back to Rafael, and to my surprise, Rafael laughed outright.
"So, your father is threatening you?"
I shook my head, "No, he didn't threaten me, but, he begged me to do him this favor, but, I don't want to do things for him, and, I can't make you a condition of the deal."
That said, I couldn't help but sigh.
Although I had promised my father, I reminded him when it was time to part, "Dad, I can help you ask Rafael what he wants, but I can't guarantee that I will be able to convince him, I will try."
I told Raphael our entire conversation, and Raphael didn't react much after hearing it.
"Rafael, what the hell are you thinking?"
"This matter was completely expected," Rafael said calmly.
My brow furrowed, "You knew all along that my father had come to me for his company?"
Raphael looked at me and nodded, "A long time ago, your father's company had a bit of a problem, and if he doesn't get help with this matter, his company will probably go bankrupt."
"Then why didn't you stop me?" I was so excited I almost jumped right up.
If Rafael had told me these things earlier, I might not have gone to see my father at all and all those things that followed would not have happened.
But Raphael looked at me and shook his head gently, "Even if I did tell you, would you change your mind? Surely not, right?"
I looked at Rafael and opened my mouth to try to refute his words.
But, I didn't say anything out loud.
Rafael knows me very well and even though I know the truth, I will not refuse this invitation.
I sighed and looked at Raphael with some frustration, "I'm sorry, Raphael."
"No need to apologize, Lena, it wasn't your fault."
I nodded, "But now, I have to help him out with this."
"Lena, do those words you just said still count?"
I looked up at Rafael, "Wait a minute, Rafael, you're not planning on doing that, are you?"
"So, what are you going to do to get your father's assets? If he would have given you his group, he wouldn't be here now begging for your help."
Raphael has a point.
I don't know what I should do. If I ask my father directly for it, he will not agree.
Plus, I'm not the eldest daughter of the Leicester family.
A long time ago, I heard Mary say that my father would only leave his property to her and that he had not acknowledged me to the public at all.
The reality is that my mother left the Lester family before she gave birth to me.
Just thinking about it makes my heart start to feel pain.
Raphael seemed to sense my emotions as well, and he reached out and took my entire body into his arms.
"Rafael, I'm sorry, I don't know exactly what to do. According to the rules of the family, the father will only leave all of the family fortunes to Mary, this is inevitable, even if the father wants to change it, it is not something that can be changed easily."
Rafael reached out and gently stroked the top of my head.
"Lena, have you never wondered who exactly is the eldest daughter, Mary or you?" Rafael's voice was so low that if you didn't listen carefully, there was a good chance you wouldn't hear it at all.
However, what Raphael said slammed right into my ears.
For a moment, my mind went blank.
Rafael did not continue.
When I came back to my senses, I gently pushed him away and then, I looked at Rafael with an expression of disbelief.
"What do you mean by that?"
"It's nothing, Lena, I just had this suspicion." Raphael didn't seem to react, as if what he just said was something he mentioned unintentionally.
But it was what Raphael said that caught my attention.
I always had the feeling that things weren't as simple as I thought they were.
I never doubted my identity, but, as my father never said, I was younger than Mary.
We are about the same age, and I call her sister because of her strong request.
Thinking about it, my heart suddenly became particularly fast.
I looked at Raphael and wanted to say something, but I was just a little too excited, and even though I opened my mouth, not a word came out.
Raphael looked at me, "Lena if you need help, I'm always here for you."
However, I shook my head.
"No, Rafael, this is something I can only do alone."
"How do you want to investigate?"
"In a few days, it will be the anniversary of my mother's death, and I plan to make a trip back to Los Angeles to see my mother, and then, by the way, ask the people who knew back then, they will surely know all about it."
My emotions finally stabilized.
I hadn't thought of this until Raphael first raised this speculation.
I looked to Rafael and showed him my determination.
Raphael didn't say anything, he just told me that I could come to him for help with anything I needed and that he would do his best to meet whatever I asked for.
I know Rafael has given a lot of dedication to me.
But, this time it was a struggle for me alone.
I had to do it all by myself.
Since I wasn't going back for a long time this time, I didn't plan to take Jamie with me.
But after I had already gotten in the car and walked a long way out, Miller surprised me with a phone call, "Madam, have you seen the young master? I found a letter in the young master's room, and he said he was going out with you."
When I heard these words, my heart was about to stop beating with fear.
I hurriedly asked the driver to stop the car and searched around the car without seeing Jamie's shadow. Finally, I asked the driver to open the trunk.
The moment Jamie saw me, he gave a very pitiful look, "Mom."
I held back my fire and reached out a hand to gently hold my forehead.
"How could you run away to such a place alone? In case I don't find you, do you know how dangerous you'll be to yourself?"
But Jamie just listened quietly as I lectured him, and he stayed silent, with no intention of explaining.
Since I had a plane to catch, I had to call Rafael and hope he could come and pick up his son early.
"Lena, I have some things going on right now that I'm not able to get away from."
"But, Rafael, my plane is going to be late soon."
Rafael, on the other side of the phone, stopped talking.
"Why don't I bring Jamie over there?"
"That's fine, I'll have Landon make up a plane ticket for you, and if anything else comes up, you call me, okay?"
It does seem that Rafael is a little busy right now.
I nodded, "Okay."
However, just as I was about to hang up the phone, a little hesitation came into my mind.
My brow furrowed and then, once again, I brought the phone to my lips, "Rafael."
"What's wrong?"
"This time, you shouldn't suddenly appear by my side like that time before, right?"
Surprisingly, Raphael's laughter came directly from the other side of the phone.
Then I heard Raphael say in a deliberately uncertain tone, "I don't know, Lena, maybe if you protect yourself, I won't be around."
I rolled my eyes, didn't say another word, and just hung up the phone.
Then I got a text message: Take care of yourself and Jamie.
In the end, I decided to stop counting what Raphael said.
Then I turned my head to Jamie: "Because your earthly father did not have time to pick you up to go back, so, this time you will have to go with me."
Who knew that Jamie, who heard me say these words, would not hide his excitement at all.
The happiness was completely written on his face.
"Don't worry, mom, I'll take care of myself and won't get you into trouble," Jamie said with a sincere face.
Jamie is indeed a good boy, and since things have come to this point, I can't do anything more than accept the truth.
Then, I sat Jamie in the car and instructed the driver to continue driving towards the airport.
However, the more I thought about the matter while in the car, the more I felt something was wrong.
How in the world did Jamie open the trunk and get in?
I looked at Jamie, just wanting to continue to question him about this matter, did not expect, Jamie turned his head directly and hugged me.
"What's wrong?" The moment Jamie hugged me, I lost that thought.
Even his tone was softened down.
"Happy to go out with mom!" Jamie finished and started laughing straight away.
I couldn't help but laugh too, then I reached out and gently patted Jamie's back.
Well, so be it.
