Chapter 69 Inside the Meeting Room
(Rafael's POV)
I knew that it had been a difficult thing to get Lena's approval. She had been hesitant, not only on top of her work but also on her feelings for me.
Of course, I understood that most of Lena's concerns came from William, but there was no way I could convince Lena to make a change.
I drove and watched Lena unobtrusively. She seemed to have no other worries and looked very relaxed.
It wasn't until we arrived at the office that my heart completely dropped.
I always had the feeling that something was going to happen today, but, until I walked into the office, I had the feeling that I was the one who was worried that Lena might suddenly regret it. There was a chance that she might just go back and make me happy for nothing.
But it turns out that I was still wrong.
I pushed the door open and walked in, not paying attention to Lena's condition at first.
There is still some excitement in my heart because now it seems as if everything is no different from before.
However, at this time, when I wanted to turn around to look at Lena, a muffled sound suddenly came from behind me. My heart suddenly tensed up, and when I turned to look behind me, Lena had fallen to the ground.
"Lena!" I exclaimed and immediately ran towards Lena.
She looked in pain as if she had completely lost her consciousness and was just holding her head tightly.
The moment I touched Lena, she screamed in great pain.
This put me in a cold sweat.
Such a situation is indeed strange, but it's not the first time I've seen it. The last time something like this happened was when Lena had a nightmare.
However, Lena is not sleeping now, and, this time, it is more intense than all the previous ones.
I held Lena tightly in my arms and she began to push me unconsciously so that I felt some uneasiness.
Lena seemed to be very resistant to my touch as if I were a bad person.
But now, even though Lena was very resistant to me, I didn't dare to release her easily.
I hugged her and then gently patted her back. I pressed myself to her ear and said in a soft voice, "Lena, it's me, don't be afraid."
Although Lena was still struggling violently, I could feel that what I said did have a small effect.
I gently cupped Lena's cheek, the top of that beautiful face already covered in sweat, and still, I was gently soothing her.
Landon knocked on the door, but by this time I didn't have the energy to care about anything else.
And so, we don't know exactly how long it went on.
Lena finally stopped trying to push me away, but I didn't let it go completely.
Lena was in some bad shape, and the scariest thing was that I felt a kind of fear in the way she looked at me after she came to her senses.
It was as if something had stabbed me hard in the heart. It wasn't what I wanted to see.
And, at this time, a very bad thought suddenly appeared in my mind.
"Lena, are you awake now?"
After hearing me speak, Lena's eyes quickly changed. Her gaze gentled down again.
Lena shook her head, then dropped down to rest on the couch.
But, I don't think Lena is okay at all anymore.
I didn't want to irritate her, and although I was worried about her condition, I didn't want to prod Lena into saying something.
However, after Landon walked in, I suddenly had a strange feeling that something else would happen.
Landon wanted to continue to talk to me about something, but it was clear that he was a little worried about Lena's situation.
Our eyes locked, and at this time, I still didn't think much of it.
However, when I heard what Landon said, I froze straight away.
I didn't know what reaction I should show, and by this time, Landon was silent. My heart was beating fast, and then, I looked up at Lena.
Lena didn't know what she was thinking, but, instead of looking at me, she looked worried.
I took a deep breath and looked to Landon, "Where is he now?"
"In the conference room."
I stood up, walked over to Lena's side, and then kissed her forehead, "Honey, stay here until the doctor gets here, I'll be back in a minute."
While I was planning to walk away, Lena reached out and grabbed the corner of my shirt.
Her face didn't look very good: "Raphael-"
I grabbed her hand, didn't wait for Lena to say something else, and then took her hand away.
I don't know what kind of attitude I should come up with now, Lena's state soldier doesn't allow me to ask her some questions, and, I don't blame Lena, this is all caused by William alone.
Lena is also an innocent person.
"Rafael, I'll go with you!"
As I was walking to the office door, I heard Lena shout this to me.
My heart suddenly tensed up, but, instead of giving Lena a response, I simply closed the door behind me.
I thought this is a matter between William and me, everything has nothing to do with Lena, and she should not continue to be involved in it.
Of course, I won't pay any attention to what my heart is thinking.
These are not the most important.
When I got to the conference room, I pushed open the door to the conference room and walked in. When I got in, William was sitting there, and there was no one else in the place. It was just the two of us.
I hadn't seen William alone for a long time. I think the last time we met was five years ago, except that it was a very unpleasant encounter.
I don't think it will be pleasant in the future either.
After William saw me, he remained in his seat, and then, finally, he put away that hypocritical look in front of me and stopped wearing a cheap smile.
"It's been a long time, Raphael." William greeted me with a cold face, but, I didn't want to pay any attention to him.
I closed the door, sat down in the seat next to me, and then, looked William up and down.
William was not in as good a shape as I thought he would be, and I thought that he must be living a pretty good life to be in a position to call my bluff when he could return to the Hill this time.
Sure enough, a clown is just a clown after all.
"William, why did you come back when you could have been living in Paris and I wouldn't have cared more about you?" I didn't have time to continue the nonsense with William.
When he heard my questioning, he gave a very contemptuous laugh, and then, looking to me, he said, "Raphael, what else do you think I must have from you?"
My eyes narrowed, "I think Lena has made her choice, William, and you already know her answer."
William sneered again, and then, in a very sharp tone, he interrupted me: "Rafael, it was all you who was cheating Lena! You are the one who is forcing her! If it was Lina's own choice, why did you refuse to tell Lina everything?"
My eyes narrowed as I looked at William, and it was then that I realized that William seemed to be a little different than he had been before.
He's become even more annoying to me.
"William, when you are accusing me, shouldn't you also explain to Lina why exactly you lied to her in the first place?" My questioning made even William become a little embarrassed, he didn't know how to answer my question, and it made me even more sure that the reason why Lena became like this must be directly related to William.
"William, you could have chosen a new path, couldn't you? I don't think Father intended to abandon you completely, either. Otherwise, you might not have come back at all." I said coldly, and these words were the cruel truth.
These facts are things that William should have recognized a long time ago, only, unfortunately, he did not know himself a bit well enough, perhaps, he thought that as soon as Lena saw him, she would go with him. His thoughts are indeed very naive.
However, I am really worried about Lena, I am worried that he will harm Lena while retaliating against me, something like this has already happened once, I must put an end to such things happening again.
William's gaze changed from a cold one at the beginning to a resentful one now.
He has never been able to hide his emotions in front of me, so I can guess his thoughts very easily.
Of course, I guess I was a little too optimistic.
William just looked at me like that, but, he didn't choose to leave just because he was angry.
Then, just after our brief silence, William suddenly said, "Rafael, do you think I'm doing things blindly when I come back this time?"
I looked at William and he suddenly smiled at me.
Then I saw William spread his hands and his body leaned back, eventually resting on the back of his chair.
William knocked up his legs and even put on a look of indifference: "Raphael, I think you did go too far before, you know very well that father doesn't care about me, but, the father doesn't care about his money, Hill is his, you know what I mean? You managed to piss him off."
"So, you just went and became his puppet? Letting him manipulate your mind?" After I heard William's words, I just couldn't help but laugh out loud.
William is smart, that's a fact, he has good educational resources, and he can have a good life if he's honest and stays well in Paris. However, William had to come over and grab things from me.
This time, he wants to get not only Lena anymore but also the whole Hill Group.
However, what I despise even more is that he would join forces with my father.
It seems that William is still naive, does he think he is capable of protecting Lena?
Just as I was about to ruthlessly dismantle William's idea, surprisingly, Landon's voice suddenly came from outside the conference room, "Hi! Mrs. Raphael, what are you doing here, the doctor Mr. Raphael called for you has arrived, I think you should go over there."
