Chapter 67 Jamie's condition
(Lena's POV)
The only thing that has changed in the last few days is that I finally decided to quit my job in Paris.
Rafael sent me an invitation soon after learning the news.
This invitation is his invitation for me to work at Hill Group.
"Welcome back, Lena."
"I didn't say I'd go back for sure."
I do have that in mind, but I don't want Raphael to expect too much from me just yet.
Rafael looked at me and raised an eyebrow, "You're planning to work elsewhere."
I quickly shook my head.
"I'm going to stay with Jamie for a while longer, as I remember, and take Jamie to the doctor in a few days for a checkup, right? He seems to be doing much better already."
Raphael saw that I did not want to continue the topic, so he did not pursue it further.
Jamie is someone we both care about.
"The day after tomorrow, but I may have some things to take care of on that day, and there are a lot of things that I need to do personally these days, so I'm going to push it back a bit."
I quickly interrupted Raphael when I heard what he had to say.
Although Jamie and I have only lived together for less than two months, I already think of him as my child.
Rafael was not able to stay with Jamie all the time because of his work, but because of my presence, Jamie is not as self-absorbed as he used to be.
There is no delay in seeing a doctor.
"It's okay, Rafael, you can go about your business, I'll just take care of Jamie's side." I smiled at Rafael.
Rafael, however, shook his head.
"Lena, you don't understand, Jamie's situation is very complicated, his condition is very specific, and you don't understand the situation."
"It's okay, Rafael, I have no problem with you showing me all of Jamie's previous medical history files."
Rafael looked at me, and he still seemed torn.
I knew that Rafael did not feel comfortable letting me go out on my own.
The specific reason I think must be related to what happened before.
So I gave Raphael another smile, "Don't worry, I'm only taking Jamie to the hospital, and, if you're worried about anything happening to us again, you can just have the bodyguard follow us and there won't be a problem, Jamie is sick now, and he can't afford to delay his illness."
Rafael was eventually convinced and agreed that I should take Jamie to the doctor.
However, because the hospital was located a bit far from our residence, Jamie fell asleep while in the car.
By the time we arrived at our destination, it was already an hour later.
I took Jamie in my arms and was going to carry Jamie straight in. However, as soon as I touched Jamie, his eyes opened.
Jamie winked at me.
I smiled at Jamie, "Are you going to go back to sleep for a while?"
Jamie shook his head, and without waiting for my help, he stepped out of the car by himself.
Jamie seemed to be very familiar with this place and didn't even need me to lead the way, he was able to walk in himself.
We knocked on the doctor's office, and Dr. Weir gave a very relieved smile after he saw it was Jamie.
However, when Dr. Weir saw it was me, his smile disappeared and he seemed surprised: "Hello, may I ask who you are?"
I didn't know how I should introduce myself, so, as I struggled, Jamie said it for me, "Mom."
However, Dr. Weir seemed to have a bigger reaction than I did.
His eyes widened in shock and he looked at Jamie as if his gaze had changed, and then he looked at me, unable to utter a word for half a day.
So, I had to smile awkwardly, "Hello, Mr. Will, I'm Raphael's wife."
"Yes, Mrs. Raphael, you sit first."
I took Jamie and made it down, and then Mr. Weir began a series of examinations on Jamie. His examination was quick and there were no pauses in between.
"It's a miracle that Jamie seems not only more cheerful but also willing to initiate a conversation with others."
I watched from the sidelines as Dr. Weir examined Jamie, and in fact, I was getting nervous.
Jamie was also very cooperative with him, saying a few words midway.
I realized just how serious Jamie's illness is when I got Jamie's information last night.
"Although Jamie doesn't look any different from an ordinary child, he was born with the disease."
Rafael told me.
"Jamie is very smart. Sometime before, I had tried to send Jamie to kindergarten, and the teacher told me that Jamie is very smart and very obedient. However, Jamie refused to communicate with anyone and he was not afraid of his classmates or teachers."
"Don't children with autism fear the outside world?"
"Some children do, but Jamie doesn't, and, with some children with autism, they deny themselves all communication with the outside world, but Jamie is different."
I pulled my eyes back from the file and looked at Rafael in confusion.
Rafael sighed: "Jamie will learn selectively, he will talk, but for the most part will not open his mouth, and, as I only discovered by accident, Jamie has a high musical talent, and so far, the only thing Jamie is interested in is one thing."
"What is it?"
Rafael took a sip of the coffee in his hand, "The piano."
My brow furrowed, "But I've never seen Jamie play the piano."
When I finished the sentence, Raphael's face seemed to change along with it.
Rafael averted his gaze as I looked at him in confusion. Then I heard him say, "That's because, with you around Jamie, he doesn't have any interest in anything else."
My recollection ended, and by this time, Dr. Weir's examination was soon over. Then Mr. Weir looked at me, and he looked as if he was slightly relieved.
After waiting for Jamie to come over, I got nervous instead, "Mr. Will, is Jamie much better already."
"Yes, yes, Mrs. Raphael, that's amazing. The last time I saw Jamie, he was in very bad shape." Dr. Will looked very happy.
"So does Jamie count as well already?"
"That's not true, ma'am, it's like this, Jamie's condition is very special, although he has received some treatment from me before, the effect is very insignificant, at that time we proposed a program that needed Jamie to find someone he trusts, and it seems Jamie has found it."
Dr. Will gave me a look that I knew, he was questioning me.
"At that time, I had warned Mr. Raphael when I was communicating with him, and I didn't expect that five years had passed and he had found this person."
After hearing Dr. Weir's words, I let out a laugh along with him.
Then I looked over to Jamie, who was sitting on the sidelines.
Jamie seemed obedient, he didn't cry or fuss, and he wasn't interested at all in the things that kids his age wanted.
"I also told Mr. Raphael at the time that it was best to find someone related to Jamie when I thought Mr. Raphael himself would be fine."
"But, Mr. Will, I'm not Jamie's real mother." When I said these words, Name felt lost.
However, after Dr. Weir heard this, he surprisingly looked at me with great shock.
"How is that possible? Mrs. Raphael, honestly, even if you don't go for a paternity test, I can see that you and Jamie are mother and son."
I also tried to say something like my previous children died before they were born, but soon, I put my thoughts away again.
Right now, it's enough for Jamie to get better; nothing else matters at all.
I chatted briefly with Dr. Weir again, asking for a few things to keep in mind, and then left with Jamie.
However, as I was just walking out the door of the hospital, I was surprised to see William there.
William was surprised at first after seeing me, but, after he saw Jamie, the smile disappeared.
I subconsciously pulled Jamie behind me, and although I didn't think William would hurt Jamie, I did.
Then, I looked over to William and smiled at him, "I didn't expect to see you here."
William quickly withdrew his gaze, and then, looking at me, he said, "I'm here to take care of some business, Lena, who is this?"
This time, I didn't wait for Jamie to say something more for me: "My boy, William, has lived with Rafael before, though."
I glanced at William, who didn't look so strange.
At this time, William suddenly said, "Are you guys planning to go back now?"
I nodded, "Yes, it feels like it's late and Jamie is hungry."
"How about this, Lena, we haven't seen each other for a few days either, I'll buy you guys dinner."
I just wanted to refuse William, and at this time, Jamie suddenly grabbed my hand.
I looked down and realized that Jamie had hidden behind me.
He seemed to be afraid of William and looked at him with a wary face.
Jamie kept pulling me backward as if trying to pull me away. Although Jamie didn't like strangers, he was never afraid of them either.
I reached out and gently stroked Jamie's head, then looked to William and said, "Wait until next time, William, Jamie isn't used to eating out and I'm worried he'll get sick."
William showed understanding of what I said.
We briefly exchanged information about our respective situations and then said our goodbyes.
However, before leaving, William suddenly said to me again, "Lena, I think if your original child hadn't had an accident, it would be as cute as he is now."
I gave William a look, said nothing, and got in the car.
