Chapter 39 The second email
(Lena's POV)
It wasn't until I left Ryan's bar and returned home that I realized I might have been tricked by Ryan.
I didn't ask anything about the photo at all. Ryan kept explaining to me how much Rafael loved me, but anything related to this photo, Ryan didn't tell me.
I couldn't help but laugh a little, and only then did I notice that my face in the mirror didn't look very good.
At this time, Martha came from the side, her hand holding a water bottle.
Since I married Rafael, Martha never sought out my Martha again, and because of Miller's presence, Martha even began to make advances toward me.
She probably thought she would be fired before long, and I also heard her crying with Bob one night, hoping he could plead with Rafael not to kick her out.
To be honest, I would not have cared about these things at all.
I understand that with a man like Rafael if someone had told me that Rafael was involved with many women before I met him, I probably would have believed it. And for that reason, I was never sure that Rafael truly loved me until we had completely put our misunderstandings to rest. But now that he has given me his word and I am pregnant with his child, it is natural that some rumors need not concern me too much.
However, after I received that picture, I had to admit that many people are better than me, and if it was one of them with Rafael, it would probably be better than if I was with Rafael.
I pulled my gaze back from Martha's body and tried to stop myself from thinking about it.
At this time, whether for Raphael's sake or my own, I should not speculate on something that is not certain.
That night, I stayed up, just to wait for Rafael to return. However, until late at night, Miller began to urge me to sleep, and Rafael did not return.
I thanked Miller for his concern, and after returning to my room, my smile completely disappeared.
I was lying in bed and realized that the night was so quiet. I could hear the wind outside the window, the lamp glowed yellow, and my hands and feet were cold when the temperature inside the house was high.
I don't know when, but I fell asleep. In my dream, I was once again back to that Christmas night three years ago. I was still waiting for Rafael, but he still didn't come. Many cars were passing by, and no one came to me.
Lena, maybe this is the real world, and everything that happens three years later is a figment of your imagination.
I couldn't help but sigh as the memories overwhelmed me and I returned to the world of indifference once again, facing it all alone.
I was going to leave, but, at this time, suddenly someone pulled my hand, I was very surprised, and when I turned around, I saw Raphael - three years later Raphael appeared in front of me.
My eyes suddenly opened and my heart was beating fast in the darkness. I felt a sense of powerlessness, and my body was already covered in sweat. At this time, the lights in the room were turned on, and my eyes were instantly filled with light.
I opened my eyes and looked at what was in front of me. Raphael had just returned, his clothes had not yet been changed and he was still full of cold air.
I blinked, "What time is it?"
"It's already one in the morning." Raphael looked at me and didn't look away, instead, I was a little shy from his look and turned my head aside with a red face.
"As soon as I came in, I heard you talking in your sleep.
I looked to Rafael, very skeptical: "You're talking nonsense, how could I be talking in my sleep?"
Rafael looked at me with eager eyes, "You're calling my name."
My shoulders were lowered, and by this time, Raphael had sat down next to me, and he gently stroked my back, not urging me to say something, and then, weak as I was, I leaned right back against him.
Rafael took me into his arms, "Lena, are you dreaming about something?"
I nodded: "The dream was three years ago, you didn't come to me, and everything now is all fake."
Rafael took my hand, kissed my forehead, and said in very soft words, "No, Lena, what is true now is true."
I couldn't help but let out a sob and the tears just fell, I couldn't control my emotions at all, God, I didn't mean for this to happen.
"I'm sorry, honey, you've been working long and hard enough, and to have to face me when you come back, I didn't mean to do that, but I couldn't help myself."
My tears were completely uncontrollable, and they fell one by one like beads with broken strings.
Rafael reached out and tenderly wiped the teardrops from my face.
"Honey, I'm right here, and we're already together."
I nodded vigorously and took a deep breath before steadying myself.
Rafael rubbed my hair. I wiped the tears that hadn't dried off my face and turned my head to look at Raphael: "Honey, I need to tell you something."
Rafael looked at me, "Should I guess?"
I saw Rafael narrow his eyes and look at me with a gaze that made me shiver. By this time, I already knew that Ryan had already met Raphael.
"hmm...... Honey, you'll forgive me, right?"
Rafael nodded, his expression had eased, then he reached out and caressed my cheek, "Ryan has told me everything, Lena, can I see that picture?"
I took the photo out and handed it to Raphael.
He took it and looked at it carefully. I kept watching Raphael's expression, but, until Raphael gave me back the picture, he never showed any different demeanor.
My heart had let go, and now, I was more worried about what the person who sent me the photo was up to.
"I don't know exactly who sent it, Raphael, but it's clear that someone is sneaking up on you."
Rafael nodded, then, he looked at me, "Don't worry, Lena, I'll take care of all this."
Rafael paused for a moment, he took my hand and kissed the back of it gently, "Honey, you don't have to think much, I will take care of all these things as soon as possible."
"I believe you."
My gaze became very real, and for once, I did have faith in Raphael.
My gaze dropped and only then did I notice that his clothes hadn't changed: "It's getting late, so it's better to get an early night, and we'll get to the rest later."
Rafael was in the shower and my sleep had completely disappeared. I put my laptop on a side table, reached out and rubbed my stomach, and got lost in thought.
Rachel was indeed my primary suspect, but if, for example, she had this photo long ago, why didn't she give it to me at the party?
If, for example, the person behind it was Raphael's competitor, this one photo sent to my email would not have had much impact on Raphael's career.
Just as I was thinking about it, Rafael had come out of the bathroom. I looked at Raphael's bare chest and decided not to think about these things for a while.
"I forgot to tell you earlier." Rafael took the towel off his head, and then, he walked over to the bed.
It made me a little nervous. Although we were already married, I rarely had the opportunity to see Raphael like this.
"What?"
"I took the last cooperation project, and before long, I can remove all those who would get in my way, and of course, if they are willing to show me goodwill, I will give them another chance."
"That's great."
Raphael suddenly stopped talking, and I looked up at him and said, very suspiciously, "What's wrong?"
Rafael put the towel next to him and he suddenly bent down close to me, bracing his hands on the bed, we were so close that we could even feel each other's breath, a scene that made me afraid to breathe anymore: "Rafael, you're too close too."
"I just noticed you've been staring at my boobs."
I was a little embarrassed and didn't dare to meet Raphael's gaze directly: "That's because I think you have a pretty good body."
Raphael suddenly let out a laugh, he leaned closer and bit me directly on the ear, I couldn't help but shake, even my voice started shaking: "Raphael, I'm still pregnant! Don't you just touch me!"
"Lena, you're almost six months old, it won't hurt, I won't hurt you or the baby, and besides, we haven't done this in a long time."
Rafael's voice rang in my ears and my cheeks couldn't help but flush. I wanted to keep refusing Rafael, but he had already started kissing me and didn't give me a chance to refuse at all.
Raphael was indeed different from before, he became more gentle and kind to me. My body gradually relaxed under Raphael's touch, which Raphael knew meant consent.
He cupped my cheek, and as I was already on the verge of losing consciousness, I heard his words to me, "I love you, Lena, don't doubt me."
I curled my lips and held Rafael tighter, I could feel his love and I wanted to believe that this was the real thing.
I love you too, Raphael, and I hope you won't let me down.
The next day, when I woke up, Rafael had already left for the office. Although the problem of Hill Group had been solved, many things needed him to follow. I gave Rafael enough time to do his thing.
However, I didn't expect to receive another email when I opened my laptop one morning a month later.
When I opened this email, the past stung me deeply, and my heart had fallen to the bottom.
