Chapter 82 Past, Present, and Future
(Rafael's POV)
I didn't dare to touch Lena, I was afraid it would irritate her again.
But we can't go on like this forever.
I tried to calm Lena down, which seemed a little difficult. Lena was still very resistant to my touch.
I took a deep breath.
"Lena, what's wrong with you?"
Lena looked at me and she stood up straight away, wrapped her jacket tightly around me, and was about to run outside.
I was worried about her state, and there was no way I was going to let her leave like that.
"Lena! Wait! What the hell did you see?!" I reached out and grabbed Lena's arm.
She seemed irritated by me and shook off my hand so hard that I finally let her go for fear of hurting Lena.
However, it did not end there. Lena did not leave, she stood posture in front of me and looked at me with a surprisingly cold sight: "Rafael, which one of you should I trust?"
I knew that Lena must have remembered something again.
It was like she was questioning me, except that she didn't seem to care about my answer anymore.
"William tried to rape me when you've already done worse to me long ago, Raphael, are you being so nice to me now because you want to make up for what you once did to me?" Lena suddenly let out a laugh.
Her laughter, however, pierced my heart.
I know that Lena seems to be dead at heart.
She looked at me as if I were a stranger, and I have never been so, so powerless as I am now.
At this time, William struggled to get up from the ground.
His face was still bloody, and I was worried that he would do something out of the ordinary to Lena again, so I stepped in front of her.
William looked at me, and he gave a laugh that seemed to mock my situation.
"Lena, you believe now that I'm here to save you, don't you?" William looked to Lena and once again I had the urge to punch him.
Only, Lena didn't give me such an opportunity.
"Save me? William, I don't trust either of you anymore. I don't need you to save me." Lena said indifferently.
Still, William didn't give up: "Lena, I won't do anything excessive to you as long as you behave yourself and come with me. Just like those five years in Paris, I just want you to stay by my side, and I don't need you to make promises to me."
"Five years?!" I shouted out no longer able to bear it.
How the hell did you get five years in Paris in exchange for that?
William has been creating a lie from the beginning, and he is the biggest deceiver of all.
I looked angrily at William and short-circuited his words, "If you want to bring up those five years, why don't you tell Lena exactly why she has amnesia?"
Lena came up to me and she looked at me in shock, "Rafael, what are you talking about?"
I have refused to tell Lena the truth because I was worried that Lena would be upset.
But I can't let William continue to use this to deceive Lena.
"Five years ago, you and Rachel hatched a conspiracy together, you deliberately made Lena leave my side and then created a car accident that eventually caused Lena's memory loss."
As I was saying these words, I was suffering inside.
Lena shook her head in shock, and then, she looked at William, as if she was asking him if all this was true or not.
William looked to Lena: "Lena, that's not true, Rafael is framing me."
I sneered: "William, I just didn't bring out the evidence, I have already investigated everything you planned in the first place, and you still want to cheat Lena until now?"
"Lena, you know what kind of person Rafael is, he has so many tricks up his sleeve, you can't trust him, he will continue to lie to you."
"I was pregnant! William! I had a baby in my belly!" I heard Lena's hoarse shout as her tears flowed again, and before I could stop Lena, she had rushed to William and slapped him hard in the face.
(Lena's POV)
My palms were on fire and my anger made my sanity disappear completely. I just felt anger, but, after the anger was left with emptiness.
It turned out that what I had always cherished was a fake.
It turns out that the person I've been thinking is the one responsible for all of this.
I suddenly felt that it was all such a ridiculous thing.
I couldn't help but let out a laugh, expressing all of my spitefulness towards William.
I have indeed lost everything.
My brow furrowed and the feeling of sadness made my whole body become deflated, and when I couldn't stand up and was about to fall, Raphael reached out and caught me.
I looked at William and his eyes were red.
Please, God, don't let him look at me with a pig-faced expression.
I withdrew my gaze and stopped looking at William.
"Lena, I know you hate me but aren't you curious as to why I created this charade?"
I know, because Raphael hurt me because you think I am suffering, or because you think your love can transcend everything.
But, I didn't say anything.
I closed my eyes in despair as tears slipped from the corners of my eyes.
I leaned weakly against Raphael's body and then, in a soft voice, said, "Come on, Raphael, take me away."
Rafael said nothing as he reached out and picked me up, and I curled up in his arms. That would make me feel better.
But William still came after me: "Lena, Raphael did more than that to you, I did it all for you, I want you to be happy."
"William, I'm warning you, you better not come along again or I'll beat you straight into the hospital, and when that happens, Father won't accept a cripple to run his company," Rafael warned indifferently.
We walked out of the room, Rafael hugging me tightly.
I don't care what really happened before, or at least I simply don't care anymore.
Walking outside yea, Raphael just put me down.
How exactly that day ended, I simply don't know.
By the time I woke up from my nap, it was noon the next day.
Rafael didn't go to work for me either.
"How's the body?"
"Where's Jamie?" I ignored his concern.
"Miller took him out, and if you want to see him, I'll have them back now."
I looked over to Raphael and then walked over to him, "No, it's okay for the two of us to talk."
I poured a cup of tea and then took a small sip, finally feeling myself relax a bit.
Then, I looked at Rafael and said, "You said earlier that Jamie was my child, what happened after I left America?"
Rafael looked at me, and he didn't answer right away. However, I was not in a hurry to get his answer: "It doesn't matter if you don't want to tell me."
"After you left, I came to that hospital, only, by the time I knew you were there, William had already taken you away."
I suddenly felt fear and I asked in a trembling voice, "Did William leave Jamie there?"
Rafael nodded, "Yes, only Jamie."
I can't believe this thing.
If Rafael is not found, Jamie is likely to be abandoned and he is congenitally autistic, what will happen to Jamie in the end ......
I closed my eyes in despair, at this time, Raphael continued: "It's okay, honey, all that has passed, I'm just a little sorry, if I had reached you earlier, the back would not have caused so many misunderstandings."
I shook my head, "But I don't understand why I have amnesia, why I can't remember anything."
"Those are William's problems, Lena, you don't have to blame yourself."
Even when Raphael comforted me, I didn't feel reassured.
I looked at Raphael and had many more questions I wanted to ask him. However, I did not know how to say it.
"Jamie, has Jamie missed me all these years?"
God, what the hell am I talking about?
Raphael was stumped by my question, and he seemed a little unsure of how to answer.
But just when I thought he would just laugh at me, Rafael put on a serious face as he walked over to me and reached out to cup my cheek.
All I could do was look at Rafael like this.
"Listen to me, Lena, it's not just Jamie, it's me, and we all miss you terribly."
My eyes got wet again.
I know that Raphael did not deceive me.
I could feel their feelings for me the first time I met them.
Even Rafael rarely said such blunt things to me.
"During the time you were gone, I would always talk to Jamie about what happened between us, and Jamie would become very interested every time he heard something about you."
"Lena, we miss you not only because you are my wife and you are Jamie's mother, but more importantly because we love you."
"I know that once I did a lot of excessive things to you, and I want you to give me a chance again, those past meetings were not a good thing, but, if you want, I can tell you slowly and tell you all that you want to know."
"So, will you stay by my side?"
I looked over at Raphael and eventually couldn't control my emotions and my tears flowed down.
I reached out and gently stroked Raphael's cheek, and my gaze became tender.
The past is important, and I admit that a man must be incomplete without it, but the present and the future have just as much place.
I admit that I cared too much about the truth under William's influence, but I could not remain stagnant.
I smiled at Rafael, and then, I reached out and hugged him.
Raphael hugged me tightly and he kissed me gently on the cheek.
I've never felt happier than I do now.
"I do, Rafael."
