Chapter 44 Returning to New York
(Lena's POV)
My God, how helpless I am at this moment, no one can understand me
I know William is a good man who has done a lot for me without asking for anything, but I still can't treat him the same way I treat my husband.
Yes, I know this very well, I do not love him.
William kept reassuring me, telling me not to worry about it, just relax, he'll take care of the rest.
I understood that my capriciousness might hurt him, but I hesitated when William asked me if I wanted to leave the United States with him.
I don't know what I'm waiting for, but my gut tells me I shouldn't follow William away.
William continues to be patient.
Until one night, I had a dream. In the dream someone took my hand, it was a man, but I didn't know him.
By mere impression, I remembered his golden eyes, but soon, I couldn't see him again. But he was handsome, and I couldn't take my eyes off of him.
I asked him who he was.
The man suddenly approached me and took me in his arms. He tried to kiss me, but I subconsciously pushed him away. He didn't tell me, and I asked him again who he was, but he went in another direction.
I don't know why I didn't want to let go of him, I tried to chase after her, but, my body was just too heavy. As my tears streamed down my face, I heard my voice: "Take me away, take me away."
But the man disappeared, and my dream ended. After I woke up, I realized I had started to cry. I wiped away my tears and then secretly warned myself to forget about that dream.
The next day, I reached out to William.
"Good morning, Lena, you look a little worse for wear."
I smiled at him, "William, take me away."
He didn't seem to react and just looked at me and blinked.
So I continued to repeat the words, "Take me away, and I'll go to France with you."
William suddenly smiled, he dropped what he was holding, walked quickly towards me, and then picked me up.
"Really? Lena, I'm not dreaming, am I?"
I shook my head, gesturing for him to put me down, and then, looking to him, I kissed him sincerely on the cheek - I don't know why, but I couldn't give him a decent kiss, and that was the biggest concession I could make: "It's true, William, I'm going with you."
Three days later, we packed our bags; I didn't have anything to take with me, except myself. Soon, we were on a plane to Paris.
I took one last look back at the place, sorrow piled up in my heart, but I quickly made up my mind, and then, I turned my head decisively.
Goodbye, whoever that man was, it's all over.
William and I came to Paris and it was nice here, but of course, in reality, nothing seemed to have changed except that my personality had changed a bit.
Five years, I have lived in Paris for five years and met very good friends.
And, of course, the most important thing, that is, I refused William.
"Lena, seriously, if it were me, I wouldn't say no to William, he's really good, and most importantly, he loves you."
I looked to Elsa and placed the wreath I had just woven on her head, "Elsa, I know you're trying to persuade me, but there's no way I can accept William."
"Why?"
"Elsa, I know William is very fond of me, but that's why I can't cheat on his feelings, even more, I tried, I tried to treat him as my fiancé or, just someone I like, but I can't do it, Elsa, I really can't."
I sighed: "Since I don't remember anything anymore, it's time to start all over again. Although this is unfair to William, I really can't fall in love with him again."
Aisha looks sad too.
A long time ago, Elsa told me that she knew how much pain William was in at the beginning, so she wanted us to be together.
However, after so much time had passed and we still had no results, she just felt some pity between me and William. So soon, she sorted herself out: "No matter what, it's your choice, honey, I'll support you."
I hugged Aisha.
They are all very nice people.
By this time, William had driven back.
"Good morning, Lena, Aisha!" William started greeting us from a long way away, and then, he came running over.
"Good morning, William, you look good."
William winked at me, "For seeing you, Lena."
I raised my eyebrows and didn't pay any attention to what he said.
"By the way, Lena, don't you have to go to work today?"
"I forgot to tell you." After hearing William's words, I suddenly remembered this matter.
"In a few days I have to go on a business trip, a trip to a faraway place, so the company has arranged a vacation for me, and also let me prepare properly."
After hearing this, Elsa exclaimed with great excitement, "Hey! Honey! You're great! I remember that only senior translators are allowed to travel on behalf of the company."
I smiled at Aisha, "Yes, Aisha, I got a promotion."
"Where are you going on business?"
I looked to William.
I don't know why, but I always felt that William wasn't very happy.
"New York."
This time, William's smile is completely gone.
Aisha was the only one who was still happy for me: "Honey, although it's work, you have to relax a little, got it? There are not many opportunities like this, so if you have any problems then, contact me as well."
I withdrew my eyes and looked to Elsa, "Of course, dear, I will, and will bring you back gifts."
Aisha gave me a big hug: "By the way, Lena, I would have waited for your birthday to give it to you, except that there is not much time left, so wait for me a little."
Elsa left, and now it's just me and William.
"William, is something wrong with you?"
I could sense that William was in a bad mood, but he didn't seem to have any intention of explaining it to me. William knows a lot about me, and I often have no way to guess what he is thinking.
William shook his head, and he suddenly sighed, "Lena, can you apply with the company and go elsewhere?"
My smile completely disappeared as I looked at William and let out a soft sigh.
I can understand him. At first, I didn't want to take the job either.
Five years ago, after I came back from New York, it took me a full year to completely adjust, and no matter what kind of place New York is, I experienced a lot of bad things there. So, whether it's me or William, we are very resistant to this place.
However, this opportunity is very valuable.
I shrugged and deliberately said to William in a very relaxed tone, "I know you're worried about me, William, but I have absolutely nothing to do with it."
William looked like he was going to convince me, but I interrupted him, "I'll protect myself, and when this job is over, I'll go back to Paris, and I'll come to you, and if you'll wait for me, we'll start over, okay?"
William's brow furrowed, then he gave a bitter smile, "As long as you can come back safely, Lena, I am not asking you to do anything for me."
"No, William, I'm serious."
William nodded and said nothing more.
Elsa had returned, and she looked excited and didn't notice the weird atmosphere between William and me.
Aisha's arms were holding a huge box, and then, she shoved this box into my hands.
"Open it, dear, I've picked it out for a long time, it's sure to suit you."
Under the watchful eyes of the two, I opened the gift box, inside was a purple dress, it looked noble, but not tacky.
I smiled at Aisha, "This looks great, honey, I like it a lot."
"Lena, I'm already looking forward to how you'll look in it."
I glanced at William, who looked much more relaxed already.
Then I turned my attention to Aisha: "Aisha, you will see."
A week later, wearing the gift Elsa had prepared for me, I boarded a plane to New York.
The subject of this negotiation is a leading American company.
The Hill Group is a good partner, but it is not easy to take this place, the most important thing is to give the other party enough benefits.
Although I came only as an interpreter, Mr. Brandt has given me ample opportunities, and if I can play a key role this time, the nature of my work may also change a bit.
This sounded fascinating. So, I had to check out more information about Hill Group. However, I found that what attracted me more was not the Hill Group itself, but its president.
I looked at the picture of Rafael Hill and always felt that there was something familiar about this man. Although, William's last name is also Hill, however, I have never heard him talk about these things.
After I realized that my head hurt a bit, I gave up on continuing to probe this person. After all, it wasn't the primary thing I was going to care about.
In the early morning hours, the plane arrived at its destination.
I followed is Mr. Brandt, his secretary has prepared the hotel, the official meeting is to take place at six o'clock the next evening. And before that, I had some troubles to deal with.
I looked at the bustling New York and wondered in my mind what kind of attitude I should put on.
But I will not be daunted by whatever has happened.
Time passed quickly, and at 5:30, I was on my way to my destination, the Charmed Bar, with Mr. Brandt.
