Chapter 103 Ada
(Lina's POV)
I could sense that Alan was not reluctant, but to avoid upsetting Mrs. Kate, he took me out anyway.
We walked for a while and didn't say a word along the way.
Although Alan was a small child, he looked very mature, and I felt it was best for me to remain silent so that I could avoid upsetting Alan.
Ten minutes later, we arrived at our destination.
The owner of the house did look very old, and when she opened the door for me, I wondered if she could see the road in front of her or not.
"Who are you looking for?"
"Mrs. Norman, we're looking for you."
Mrs. Norman opened the door completely, she didn't say anything and invited us to walk straight in.
After I followed Alan in, I couldn't help but observe the surroundings.
The place was so depressing that Mrs. Norman didn't even pull up her curtains.
It does seem that she is very much like the legend, not quite sane.
But because Alan was there, I didn't have any worries.
Mrs. Norman poured us tea, but we didn't even touch it.
Out of courtesy, I would have liked to take a sip, but I saw a black piece inside, and as to what that was, I thought it best not to pursue it.
"What do you want from me?" Mrs. Norman's voice had become vicissitudes, along with some hoarseness, as if it were rusty.
It seemed to me that it was very hard for her to even speak.
I glanced at Alan, but Alan had no intention of speaking for me, so I continued, "Here's the thing, Mrs. Norman, I want to ask you something, something about the Lester family more than ten years ago."
It was a very calm conversation, but when Mrs. Norman heard me mention Lester, she suddenly let out a yell.
This sound can not only scare me a person, even aside from Alan were scared almost jumped up.
His brow furrowed as he wondered what was going on.
Seemingly, Mrs. Norman injection noticed her outburst, she was a little embarrassed and I smiled a little.
I'm starting to suspect now that she's not quite sane.
But since I'm already here, I have to ask everything before I can leave.
So I took a deep breath, and after stabilizing myself, I looked at Mrs. Norman: "Mrs. Norman, have you ever had any dealings with anyone inside the Lester family?"
Mrs. Norman, however, shook her head.
For a moment, I felt a little lost, but still, I didn't give up: "Then why are you screaming?"
"Because I know the secret of the Lester family."
My heartbeat suddenly accelerated, I don't know why, I always feel that I will hear something very important from Mrs. Norman's mouth.
"But I can't tell you, this is something I want to keep secret."
In an instant, I felt like a pot of cold water had been poured on my head again.
I took a deep breath and tried to steady myself.
"Mrs. Norman, it's like this, I'm Mr. Lester's granddaughter."
When I identified myself, Mrs. Norman looked at me with suspicion: "Granddaughter? You're his granddaughter? I remember that his granddaughter has been away from here for many years."
"Yes, that's me, Mrs. Norman, but now I'm back because there's something I have to figure out."
"What are you trying to figure out? Even if you are Lester's granddaughter, I can't tell you about this matter, but you can rest assured. This matter has nothing to do with your grandparents."
I looked at Mrs. Norman's face and for the first time, I felt I was so close to the truth, that if I just asked one more question, I could get the truth of the matter.
However, Mrs. Norman's attitude is also very firm.
Why does she look crazy one moment and then back to normal the next?
My brow couldn't help but furrow.
Then, I looked at Mrs. Norman, and for some reason, a thought suddenly came to mind, "So this thing, is it related to my parents?"
Mrs. Norman closed her mouth tightly, stopped talking, and turned her attention to me.
"What's your name?"
"Lena."
"Lena, your eyes are very much like your mother's."
When Mrs. Norman said this, it was as if something had suddenly hit me.
My eyes widened and I stared at Mrs. Norman with a deadly stare.
If it weren't for my remaining sanity now, I might have rushed up and questioned her about what happened in the first place.
However, I can't do that right now.
I tried to lower my voice, I looked into Mrs. Norman's eyes, those cloudy eyes inside the surprisingly also a hint of grief.
"Lena, your mother, was a very good girl, it's just a shame that she chose the wrong person."
Mrs. Norman began to tell me about my mother, but now I was a little afraid to hear the truth.
However, Mrs. Norman was already immersed in her world.
"This matter, it starts twenty years ago, at that time, your mother Ada came here to join your grandparents."
(Ada's POV)
I should have seen Jobe's true colors a long time ago!
He is a dirty and nasty liar!
Why on earth did I choose him in the first place?
If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I wouldn't have believed that Jobe would have cheated on me. It's amazing that that whore named Susie even knows what shame means.
But I was pregnant, and Jobe knew all about it, so why did he do it? I just couldn't figure it out.
I wiped my tears away. It was still winter and I couldn't stay outside.
Finally, I waited for the last train.
I pulled the suitcase and walked to the car, there was no place to land in it. I found a place to stand near the window, this time, the vehicle began to slowly start.
I couldn't go back to my parents, they would worry about me. I only have one choice.
Jobe's dad and mom were such gentle and kind people, so why did he become like this? I really can't understand, whenever I think clearly about these cruel things, my heart will feel pain.
I love him so much, but I love him so much!
I closed my eyes tightly, still in the car now, I couldn't let myself look too sad, so I had to adjust myself close to full strength.
I don't know exactly how long I was on the bus, and by the time I got to my stop, my feet were numb.
I dragged my bulky suitcase down a country road and started looking around for a target.
Eventually, I found where I was going at the corner of the road.
I knocked on the door of the house and the door was opened by a familiar face.
Jobe's father looked at me, and I couldn't bring myself to say why I was here.
However, they didn't seem surprised by my arrival.
They weren't the only children Jobe had, but, they didn't live together either.
When I got there, they told me to get some rest first, and that I didn't need to ask too many other things.
However, Jobe has no intention of letting me stay this good.
After I was five months pregnant, Jobe found the place.
When he arrived, he put the divorce papers in front of me.
I looked at the regulations on top of the agreement and stared in disbelief.
"Jobe, that house clearly belongs to both of us, so why should I give it to you, and besides, those deposits are our joint property."
I suppressed my anger and questioned Jobe in a low voice.
However, Jobe didn't show any shame after hearing what I said. He narrowed his eyes and looked at me with an icy gaze, then, he began to say in a tone that made me feel sick, "Ada, you should understand that you haven't put in any effort that you should have put in, and even if I were to give you a divorce, you don't deserve a penny, got it?"
I feel like all these years, Jobe's tenderness was like a big lie. Before we got married, he was very nice to me, but right after we got married, I realized he didn't like me as much as he seemed to.
At first, I thought it was because Jobe's work was too busy, so some fatigue, but then I bill now his nature.
I jerked up from the couch, I was in no position to worry about my stomach because I had to teach Jobe a good lesson and show him I wasn't a pushover.
"Jobe, you have no way of seeing everything I've given to you? Up until now, I haven't even told Dad and Mom why I'm here, are you going to keep being wrong like this?"
Jobe's face turned a little ugly, and he looked at me with indignant eyes, as if I were his enemy.
If I didn't still have his baby in my belly, I wouldn't even be so forgiving of Jobe.
He was the one who had to force me to make a choice.
I sneered.
At this time, Jobe suddenly reached out his hand and pushed me aside.
Because of the impact, I didn't stand still and fell straight to the ground.
At this time, a sudden cramping pain came from my stomach and my forehead was all sweaty.
But Jobe looked at me with a cold stare, "Don't pretend, Ada, now that my parents aren't here, there's no one watching us."
I looked over to Jobe and met his gaze.
Although I don't want to expose my vulnerable side in front of him, I don't seem to have any other choice right now.
"I'm not faking it, Jobe, my stomach hurts, help me, Jobe, help me, it's your baby too."
However, Jobe didn't even look at me and just pushed the door and left.
When I thought I was dead this time, Jobe's parents came back and took me to the hospital, and eventually, I was able to save my baby.
However, this is only the beginning of the nightmare.
