Chapter 51 Special Invitation
(Rafael's POV)
For a moment I felt inauthentic as I held a pile of fruit and gave Lena a hard time.
Lena has changed a lot. Five years ago, she was happy, but I had never seen such a lively side of her.
Whatever she has been through, these have made her cheerful.
I watched Lena knock on the doors of other wards, and the smile on Lena's face as she gave the fruit to other patients was deeply infectious.
My gaze mellowed.
Although such a thing seemed very difficult to understand in my eyes before, everything became interesting because the person who did it was Lena.
I had the last basket of fruit in my hand and Lena looked at me after she came out of the ward.
"Are you tired?"
She did look tired, sweating profusely, and even her cheeks became flushed. Then Lena looked at me and smiled at me, "It's true that I'm tired, but it looks like we're about to finish the mission."
After hearing Lena say this, Jamie nodded excitedly and even stole my part in the play.
Lena looked at Jamie and the smirk on her face became more pronounced. This in turn made me a little upset.
However, I soon realized that I was jealous of my son.
Lena looked over at me, "Do you need me to help you share the load?"
I certainly didn't need Lena's help.
Although we have sent fruit for half an hour, this physical exertion is nothing at all. I am also more worried about Lena's body will not be able to eat.
However, she looked really happy and I couldn't bear to stop her from continuing to do so.
"No, I'm okay with that. Where else are you going next?"
Lena thought for a moment, then she turned around and headed to the other side of the hallway, "Here, come here, Jamie, let's go over together."
I quickly followed and Lena arrived at the ward, she knocked gently on the door, and then from the ward came an old voice: "Please come in."
Lena pushed open the door and walked in, pulling Jamie with her, and I followed behind her.
The room was clean and full of the smell of sterilized water. I saw a grandmother with white hair lying on a hospital bed, but she looked very spry and did not look sick at all.
"Good noon, Mrs. Thomas."
Mrs. Thomas looked at Lena with a smile, and then, she put her eyes on Jamie and me. That gaze looked very probing, but I didn't hate the old man for looking at me with such a demeanor.
"I'm about to be discharged from the hospital, so I came to see you and I wanted to send you some fruit."
"Thank you, Lena, you're such a good boy."
I put the fruit on a side table and Lena picked Jamie up and sat down on a side chair.
"Are you feeling better?" Lena inquired with concern.
"Much better, thank you for coming to see me, but Bori happens not to be here today."
"It's okay, Mrs. Thomas, I just came to see you."
Mrs. Thomas nodded, but it was as if she couldn't take her eyes off of me.
They chatted a few more words that I didn't care about, and at this time, she suddenly asked Lena, "Lena, is this your husband?"
"Yes."
"No--"
We both said together and stopped together. Lena turned her head and gave me a somewhat reproachful look, and I looked over at Lena, not feeling like I had a problem saying that.
Instead, Mrs. Thomas laughed heartily.
I withdrew my gaze from confronting Lena, then looked to Mrs. Thomas and said, "Lena has been in a bit of a bad mood lately, and she's mad at me."
Lena seemed to want to retort to me, but when she saw Mrs. Thomas smiling happily, she swallowed all the words she wanted to say.
We didn't have to wait around long, and after we got out of the hospital room, Lena looked at me without saying a word.
I know that what I just said probably made her a little angry.
To divert her attention, I opened up first: "Doesn't anyone take care of her?"
Sure enough, once I started questioning Lena, her attention was quickly drawn away from me.
"Mrs. Thomas lives with her grandson and just the two of them."
Lena gave me a look, then pulled Jamie back.
"When I see them, I think of myself. Her grandson, Bori, is still in school, and unfortunately, Mrs. Thomas had an accident, which makes their lives even more difficult. After I learned about the situation, I was worried about Mrs. Thomas."
I know that Lena also grew up with her grandmother.
"But don't think that just because you took the initiative to ask me about this, I don't remember exactly what you just said." Lina suddenly changed the subject.
I raised an eyebrow, "Actually, I'm just telling the truth, Lena, you are indeed my wife and I am indeed your husband, there's nothing wrong with that."
"But none of this is any of my business, is it?" Lena suddenly stood still, and she turned to look at me.
I knew her face well, she was angry, very angry indeed.
I knew there was no way I could continue to make jokes about her.
I took a deep breath, "I'm sorry, Lena."
"Can I not accept your apologies, Mr. Raphael?"
Lena's words left me a little stunned for a moment. It seemed like a long time since I had heard anyone speak to me like that, and most people respected me, even if they might not mean it, and for the sake of their future, they wouldn't contradict me like that.
Lena, however, never changed.
My brow furrowed and I thought, I've given her too much freedom.
But whether she has amnesia or remembers everything that has happened, she is my wife.
"Lena Lester, I think I've given you enough slack."
Lena raised one eyebrow as she looked at me without any fear: "Oh? Mr. Raphael, I think it's entirely up to me to accept your apology or not, isn't it? Besides, I don't remember anything at all between you and me, and I don't have to care about your feelings at all."
I didn't want to be mad at Lena, but I wanted to take her straight home now.
Only God knows how I came through these five years.
I love Lena, so much that there is no way to accept reality.
Every day for five years, I wished I could have found her sooner.
Until now, I finally found her, but, Lena lost her memory.
The moment I knew she had forgotten everything, it was as if my heart had been punched hard.
My lover forgets everything, including me, and it almost drives me crazy.
To this day, she is still rejecting my feelings and what we had.
There was no way I could continue to keep my sanity.
As I was about to open my mouth again, Jamie, sandwiched between us, suddenly burst out in addition to a loud wail.
Lena and I broke away from the argument we had just had for a moment.
I looked down at Jamie, while Lena had panicked and crouched down. She tried to pick him up, but it seemed to pull at Lena's wound. She sucked in a breath of cold air and beads of sweat were already showing on her forehead, but she fought the pain and tried to pick Jamie up.
My eyes narrowed, and then, I stepped forward and picked Lena up directly, and without waiting for her to say something to me, I had picked up Jamie on the floor.
However, it didn't seem to help, Jamie was still crying out and Lena gave me a worried look.
I knew that I was not doing any good by holding Jamie.
I shoved Jamie into Lena's arms, and sure enough, Jamie instantly stopped crying. He put away his expression and looked at Lena with an innocent face about to hug her, and his face was not even tear-stained.
I didn't know what to say for a moment.
Lena was also a little embarrassed, she stopped looking at me and instead reached out and gently patted Jamie's back.
Of course, she didn't even see what Jamie looked like.
At this time, when I was about to expose Jamie, the nurse who was checking on us suddenly appeared behind us, and her tone was inevitably a bit sultry: "Sir, ma'am, can you keep it down a little? Please don't disturb the other patients' rest."
I think I probably really shouldn't go out today.
I sighed, then looked over at Lena and shrugged somewhat helplessly.
Lena is still mad at me.
She mouthed to me, "When are you leaving?"
If I could, I could always be here with her, but of course, that would be somewhat unrealistic.
So, I said conservatively, "Soon."
Lena rolled her eyes, and as soon as her hand stopped, Jamie started crying, "Can you guys just go now? I want to rest!"
When I tried to stall a little longer, Lena rejected my answer with a look.
I know, I should go now, immediately, right now.
I compromised.
"Okay, let's go now, Jamie."
When I tried to carry Jamie over, the accident happened.
Although Jamie did not shout again, however, he held Lena tightly and did not let go.
"......"
Lena and I looked at each other and neither said anything.
"Jamie, do as you're told and let go quickly so mommy can get some rest."
I looked at Lena's expression and she didn't seem to feel dissatisfied with the way I addressed her.
But Jamie didn't even listen to what I said, instead he hugged tighter.
Lena gave me a look and shook her head somewhat helplessly.
It was clear to us that Jamie probably wasn't going to cut Lena loose today.
I looked at Lena, a little out of my mind, and at this time, an idea suddenly hit me.
My heart suddenly beat fast as Lena turned her head to look at me, and then, tentatively, I inquired, "Lena, why don't you just come back with Jamie tonight, okay?"
I watched as Lena's eyes grew wide.
