Chapter 32 Rachel's threat

(Rafael's POV)
I looked at Ava and slowly spoke, "You're telling me all of this, aren't you afraid Rachel will come after you?"
Ava let out a laugh, she looked very different: "Mr. Hill, so you also care about these things? If I was really worried about Rachel, I wouldn't have come to see you at all today."
I nodded and didn't say anything else.
This matter, my purpose has been achieved, and do not need to continue to look deeper.
But just as I was about to end the conversation, Ava suddenly sighed, "Consider it my way of repaying Lena."
I looked at her and didn't ask why.
I know that if Ava could make the video just because of the money, she could also make a deal with Rachel again today.
If she did, there is no way I could have known the manipulator behind it.
"Many thanks."
Ava shook her head.
When I got back, I gave Landon everything Ava had given me to handle.
These days, it's really hard on him.
But it will be over soon, hopefully.
The matter is over for now, but Lena makes me start worrying about her again.
Lena spent a month recuperating at home, and finally, had a big fight with me because I wouldn't let her go to work at the office.
"Lena, I know you want to get out, but you should at least think about your body, you've only just recovered."
Lena sat in front of me, she looked very aggrieved, and I knew that it was all her disguise: "Rafael, I'm at home every day, I'm going crazy! Miller has told me the joke ten times already, I can even guess what she's going to say next, I want to work, and not just because I don't want to be at home anymore, although there is that reason too, but, more than anything, I want to be with you."
I admit that after I heard the reasons Lena gave, my opinion wavered a bit. But, soon, I was firm in my thoughts again.
"Lena, there's nothing the company needs you to do, do you understand?"
"Rafael, if you don't let me, I'll go sleep with Miller tonight."
I had the idea of firing Miller, although, Lena would often threaten me to do something for such a reason, only this time, I did not want to obey her idea.
"Lena, you're pregnant, and I think you should understand that."
"When I do need to rest, I will rest."
She looked at me with those purple eyes and didn't move. We both stared at each other for quite a while and it was obvious that I was defeated by her.
"Five months, Lena, and at the end of five months, you must return home, understood?"
Lena smiled softly at me. The corners of her mouth curled up and her eyes were all bright with laughter, and I looked at her, my gaze eventually becoming tender.
If she wants to, then let her do so.
After Lena returned to my office, the movement of my investigation was somewhat affected. However, this the end of this month, I still found the time.
This time, I asked Rachel out.
Rachel did not want to see me. I think she would have figured out that I had learned the truth about what was going on, too.
"I think you should spend more time with your woman instead of asking me out." Rachel's tone was a little snarky, and she hooked her mouth into a laugh.
I heard the sarcasm in her voice, but I didn't pay any attention to it.
"Rachel, I just have one question, why did my father get that video back then."
Rachel lifted the cup in front of herself, and I watched her shake the coffee in her cup, not meaning to answer me.
"So let me change the question, why at that time, did you do what you did?"
Rachel put the glass down heavily, and I could see that the corners of her eyes were already slightly red.
"Rafael, I've known you for a long time, we grew up together, even though all that time together, and even now when you're married to Lester, I can't understand at all why you'd fall for her."
I didn't answer Rachel's question, and it was clear that Rachel didn't need any answers from me either.
She took a breath to steady herself, and then, she looked up at me.
Her makeup was exquisite. I don't hate her, as Rachel said, we grew up together and I know her better than most people. But I wouldn't love her, and that was the answer made by the fact, beyond which I had nothing to explain to her that was necessary.
Rachel should understand this as well.
She smiled at me and once again put on that look she always had: "Rafael, why did I do that? Because I hate her, I hate her. She has done everything, and she can have you and I can't. Can't I hate her? Most people aren't capable of doing anything, they just have to watch the person they hate to continue to be happy, but I'm not like them, I can do things to ruin someone."
I admit that Rachel has long since become too much for me to identify with some of her practices.
But I've never hated this woman as much as I do now.
Still, there are some things she says that are true, such as the need to destroy the people you loathe.
Rachel looked at me, she spread her hands and then averted her eyes, "Rafael, I know, you wanted to protect Lester, and you did, there's nothing more I can do now."
"Is there anything else you want to say to me?"
Rachel brought her gaze back as she looked up at me, "I know that Uncle Hill always liked you, Raphael, and one day you'll see that he was right and I was right, and even if you don't marry me, you should never have been with Lester. I only sent him the video in the first place, he didn't know exactly who did it, but what could he do even if he did, you were already together at that point, weren't you?"
"Rachel, I warned you a long time ago that you've gotten in my way too many times." I looked at the woman in front of me and she smiled at me quite indifferently.
Having said that, I no longer have any reason to continue the conversation with her.
Rachel watched me get up to leave, but she suddenly stood up early in the moment, "Rafael!"
I turned to Rachel and she reached up and wiped away her tears, "I've heard rumors about you, Raphael, and you know that even if I can't have you, I don't want anyone else to be able to have you, and I won't give up until the day I don't love you anymore."
I looked at Rachel and suddenly let out a laugh, "Try it, Rachel."
Let's try and see who will give up first.
Lena didn't seem to realize that she had a baby in her belly.
Landon looked at me with some confusion, and I could understand him. After all, even he couldn't seem to understand what Lena was working so hard for.
I tried to shape everything around me in the hope that Lena would be a little more relaxed, but it was clear that she was still working very intensely.
"Honey, you don't have to be in such a hurry."
"Wait, wait, Raphael, do you see something wrong here? This report, while it lists all the projects in great detail, has some major problems with the turnover of funds."
I sighed, then walked over to Lena's side and looked at the computer screen.
After a general glance, my brow couldn't help but furrow.
Lena is indeed correct that some funds have gone awry.
However, what surprises me a little more is not this.
"You'll watch this?" I looked over at Lena, who was finally willing to look at me, albeit for a very brief moment.
"Just a little bit, I just think there's something wrong there, but still, it's only possible to get a polyglot ranking, but I have absolutely no idea about the company's specific situation, and you know, what kind of work you've given me." Lena's tone sounded a bit whiny.
I did not want to make Lena too tired, this is my selfishness, but, seeing this scene now, my thoughts have changed a little instead.
I immediately arranged for Landon to forward a copy of all the accounts for the last few months to Lena.
Both were very surprised at this move on my part.
Lena frowned at me, "Rafael, are you sure you want to give me these?"
I nodded, "If you don't want to do it, I can give the job back again."
I didn't show too much of an expression. After hearing what I said, Lena still agreed without any hesitation.
"Leave it to me, Rafael." She agreed very quickly, which in turn made the doubts in my mind grow. However, Lena always does not waste too much time explaining when she does something.
I didn't ask her why.
It wasn't until the next day that I heard something from Bob.
Bob poured my tea into a cup for me, but, he didn't leave.
I took the paper away from my eyes and looked at him, "What's up, Bob?"
Bob bowed his head gently to me before answering my question, "Mr. Raphael, although this is something that Madame did not want me to tell you, nevertheless, I thought about it and I should report the specifics to you."
My eyes narrowed. I had a vague feeling that what Bob was going to say next would directly explain Lena's perversity these days.
I then nodded and gestured for Bob to continue.
He looked at me, "Last week when the gentleman had not yet placed his wife in the company, your father had visited the house."
My heart suddenly tightened: "Did they meet? Or did they not see me, and my father just left."
Bob shook his head, "Sir, your father is here specifically to visit Madame."
After hearing that, I probably understood.
It does seem that I should go see him again.
