Chapter 40 Unexpected Arrival
(Rafael's POV)
The email Lena received earlier caught my attention, but, after I instructed Landon to help me investigate, I discovered that the email was not sent from the country.
My investigation was forced to be interrupted.
Landon sent me all the latest movements of those people, and it was a good opportunity to catch them in turn.
Landon knocked on my office door, and his face didn't look very good.
"What's wrong, what's wrong?"
Landon lowered his voice and said to me, "Mr. Raphael, Mr. John is very skeptical of your decision and he has already started agitating the others."
John was one of the people who came after me, and he was originally under my father's command. He didn't have a lot of other moves while my father was in office. He did have a lot of accomplishments as well, just by helping the company generate results, he made a lot of contributions. Of course, everyone is in it to get more out of it, and so am I.
Now, he is no longer able to create value for me, but on the contrary, obstructs my path.
Although this is very risky and my father will not fully agree with me, it is the only way to make everyone understand who is really in charge inside the company.
"Don't mind him, Landon, if John Centaur is not willing to cooperate, I'm sure there are others in this job who need the same, just leave the job to them, and if there are no other problems, there's no need to come back to me."
Landon nodded, and then, he put a folder in front of me.
I brought the folder over and knew exactly what it was.
Only, I didn't have high hopes.
"Mr. Raphael, we can only trace the information to here, I'm afraid it will take more time if we want a more detailed location."
I nodded and didn't blame Landon: "You've done a good job, let's leave it at that, let's put this matter aside for now and talk about this matter after we settle these people in the company."
After Landon left, I had little desire to work.
Lena is seven months pregnant, and she seems fine and untouched by what happened before. Anyone who had tried to stop us had failed. Perhaps it was for the best, I was thinking too much.
At the end of the day, I wanted to go back early to see Lena, or maybe I've been thinking too much lately and can't help but worry about Lena's situation.
After walking out of the office, a female employee with a coffee accidentally bumped into me.
She screamed in great horror, then bowed to me in tears and kept saying she was sorry. I wouldn't have been angry about something like that, but for some reason, my mood started to get annoyed. I didn't have time to blame her and just turned around and left.
After I changed my clean clothes and walked out the door, I saw the female employee looking at me with a nervous face: "Mr. Raphael is here, I'm sorry, I didn't see you just now if you don't mind, I can help you to wash your soiled clothes, I will be very serious."
I took a look at the woman. The woman had a very, very cheap perfume smell, the smell ten pungent, my eyes lingered on her face for just a moment and noticed that the woman's makeup was very bright and looked very unappetizing.
I didn't need her apology I didn't care much about the matter at all. If I got angry at the woman's recklessness, then there would certainly be no way for her to remain here.
Now, though, she did get my attention.
"No, you're supposed to be working right now, not blocking the front of my office, got it?"
The woman's smile disappeared and her face turned a little pale.
"Excuse me! Mr. Rafael, I'll be right back."
I just wanted to get home quickly. After I walked out of the Hill Group's office building, I called Landon.
"Hey, Mr. Rafael."
"Landon, help me see if there's a woman in my HR department who has brown hair and then freckles all over her face."
"Yes, Mr. Raphael, you're looking for Jenny."
"I don't care what this woman's name is, help me look at her work performance, if it's not in the top twenty percent of the company's employees, remember to take her with you next time you lay off."
Landon was a little hesitant: "Yes, Mr. Rafael, but is that okay?"
"Just do what I say."
I pulled the car out of the garage and made my way home.
There was no reason for such anxiety, but I always felt that things were not so simple. When I got home, the room was so quiet that it scared me. I ignored Martha's greeting and Bob appeared on the second floor, and I asked directly, "Is Lena in the room?"
Bob replied, "Yes, sir, I suppose so, I haven't seen the lady out all day today, she's probably resting."
My breath seemed to stop. At that moment, fear surrounded me. I walked quickly toward the room and pushed the door open straight away, but there was no one in the room.
My heart began to beat faster and Bob quickly came running over, after seeing the scene in the room.
I turned around, my face had become a little cold, but I still kept my cool: "Get the surveillance out immediately, since she's pregnant, she won't get far alone, hurry!"
Bob nodded and ran off in a panic.
I now know exactly where my anxiety comes from.
I reached out and wiped my face, thinking about all the previous experiences, but never found anything strange.
If there was anything wrong with Lena's mood, I would have sensed it the first time.
I walked into the room, trying to find something, and this time I saw the computer that she hadn't turned off, and on the screen of the computer, lay an email.
After seeing the content of the email, I closed my eyes in despair.
(Lena's POV)
I felt like my throat was about to burn up, and my great sadness made it impossible to stop my tears as I walked the path alone, but I didn't know exactly where I could go.
The cold and hunger made me start to despair. But soon, I wiped the tears off my cheeks.
Lena, you can only rely on yourself now.
I reached out and gently stroked my stomach, and remembering this truth brought tears to my eyes that fell completely uncontrollably.
That email told me the whole truth.
I knew that there must be something left unresolved between Raphael and me, but I didn't think that the whole thing would turn out to be a scam.
Raphael stayed with me just to wait for me to fall in love with him and then dump me hard.
But, at the very beginning, I didn't want to believe it.
I looked at that email and felt like I had fallen into cold water and couldn't breathe at all.
But how is this possible? If Raphael doesn't love me, why can he act everything so real?
If it was all a sham, then our wedding was a sham too, Raphael what am I keeping this baby again?
I took a deep breath and calmed down a little. At this time, I was going to call Rafael, but, in the end, I didn't put the call out.
If this is the truth, then surely Raphael would not let me go so easily.
Then, I thought of Nina.
I'm afraid the only person I can turn to now is Nina.
But as I pushed the door open to leave, I hesitated. I withdrew my foot again and retreated into the room.
Ryan must have known the truth, but, together with Raphael, he had deceived me. If I go straight to Nina now, Ryan will surely understand what is going on.
Nina's place is not safe at all.
I closed my eyes in despair, not knowing at all what to do. My hands began to tremble because there was no one to tell me the truth. I couldn't help but step backward and ended up falling straight down on the bed. At this time, I remembered the reporter I had seen earlier.
I called him up and the male reporter wanted to meet with me after receiving my call.
I promised him.
I'm going to ask for proof of all this myself, I want to know if Raphael is cheating me or not.
"Hello, Mrs. Hill, it's a pleasure to meet you."
"Hello, you said earlier that you wanted to interview me, and as long as you can answer my questions, I'll accept your interview."
"That's great, ma'am, feel free to ask, as long as I know, I'll tell you."
"Let me ask you, did Raphael or did he not say something like -"
After I met the male reporter, he told me that he had indeed heard many rumors about me and knew quite a few things about Rafael. One of those things was the rumor that Rafael didn't love me.
I don't know how I got out of there, I was standing in the street by the time I came back to my senses.
It turned out that everything was a fantasy of mine.
It was just like that night three years ago, only this time, I chose to leave on my own.
Deceived and betrayed, Rafael gave it all to me. He has now indeed fulfilled his bet, and I am in love with him, even if it is my own choice to leave, my heart is very hard.
I stood on the side of the street and couldn't hold back my tears.
If I were given another chance, I would not have my heart set on Raphael again.
Perhaps God heard my call.
As I was just about to cross a road, a car could no longer stop.
At that moment, as I looked at the car speeding towards me, there was no fear in my heart.
Perhaps it's not particularly bad to just end it like that.
