Chapter 34 Father
(Hill's POV)
Things didn't go the way I hoped they would.
For the first time, I felt powerless, a feeling I hadn't felt in a long time.
I finally decided to take a look at the girl from Lena.
Rafael did a lot of wrong things, and like his father, I should have educated him and guided him, but obviously, I didn't do enough to let him go the way I did back then.
This is a dereliction of duty on my part.
When Bob saw me, I realized that I was old.
Time goes fast, the young people of the year have grown up, I should also rest.
As soon as the girl came down the stairs, I understood why Rafael couldn't let her go.
She looks happy, happier than even Lisa did back then. Because she managed to get what she wanted, but Lisa didn't.
Lena came to me, she looked nervous, but had enough courage.
I admit that I changed my mind about this girl.
I thought that Rafael could not forget her simply because of her beauty. But, now, I have to admit that Lena is smart enough and courageous enough. Maybe, it's just because they are just now married, but that doesn't matter.
My thoughts wavered, and I was now more happy to give them a chance to make their own choices than to just obliterate their love.
To choose to create a miracle or not.
Lena's answer was exactly what I thought.
I know that Rafael and I are not the same, and Lena is not the same as Lisa. But the world is too difficult to change, and maybe soon they will become the same people we were at the beginning.
But those don't matter anymore.
The Hill family will not accept anyone without strength.
Rafael came to me, something I understood long ago.
I secretly kept an eye on his movements, which was not an easy task. Rafael had sensed that I was watching him. The only thing that surprised me, however, was that he chose to see me after a considerable portion of time had passed.
Rafael has indeed grown up, he is no longer as easy to control and has his ideas as before.
This is a good thing, only, unfortunately, he is not developing in the right direction.
What Rafael said made me sad.
It is not a bad thing for people to choose their interests.
He doesn't understand yet that he only sees the person in front of him, but not the longer-term goal.
If I had chosen Lisa, the Hill Group would not have grown to such an extent, and Raphael would not have appeared.
It also turns out that I was right in not choosing Lisa. Many years later, I won't have my heart set on her again; the only thing she's worth is her son.
Rafael did not understand.
I know that I am the one who has wronged her mother, but the one who should hate me the least is Rafael.
One day, he will understand my pain.
(Rafael's POV)
When I first got Lena's profile, I was very surprised at what she could do.
However, she still has many other abilities. I never thought that she would be able to solve the company's problems.
After Lena had thoroughly received the company's information, I left this time to her to handle the problem.
It also gives me a little time to take care of other things.
I didn't meet my father once after we got married. After I saw him, I knew that he probably didn't want to see me either.
"Father."
He gave me a look, "I don't think you're just here to see me, Raphael."
"Indeed." I ignored his sarcasm, and to save time, I expressed my intention of coming directly.
"Father, three years ago, you wished that I could separate from Lena, but in the end, we are still together."
"So, are you trying to prove something to me?"
My father was always arrogant, he thought he was always right and no one could disobey him.
"No, Father, I want you to tell me the truth."
"What's the truth?"
"The truth about three years ago, there's no way you didn't look into it again after that video, right?"
My father was suspicious by nature, and he would pay more attention to things that were not clear where they came from, so he likely knew that the video was a forgery, but he did it anyway.
I know, why he did it.
"I know it's fake, Raphael, but it doesn't matter. It helps me achieve my ends, even if I'm being used, it doesn't matter."
Hearing this, my clenched fist, but I still kept my composure: "Father, is it just because of Lena's identity?"
"Rafael, I have taught you since you were a child that you should learn to observe the situation, that the Shire is not safe forever, and that if you are not strong enough, you must learn to harden your wings, even if you need to use a little outside help, but Ken obviously, you have not learned this, and I, as your father, must help you." He looked at me, examining me with eyes that looked just like mine.
I hate this gaze of his, to be exact, I hate him.
I heard how my voice trembling, "So you want me to marry Rachel, just like you chose my mother back then, is that it?"
"Yes."
My body was out of control and before I could react, I had rushed forward and grabbed him by the collar.
I was taller than he was, and he looked old, with declining strength and an aging face, but even though I did, even though I looked a complete threat to him, he still looked unfazed.
I could feel the bodyguards around me trying to rush up, but he reached out to stop them.
He told me the truth very calmly, but brutally: "Raphael, there is nothing wrong with that."
I let go of him and took a step back, quickly calming myself down: "Father, you are you and I am me, even if we resemble each other, we are completely different people, I have told you my choice, it is time for you to say what you will do next."
I looked at him and shook my head, "I know, Rafael, you've been a little carried away with the so-called love, which, has no value, and when you grow up a little more, you'll understand my good intentions."
I would not understand him. I saw my mother in pain, and I saw everyone but my father in pain, including myself. But he couldn't convince me, and I couldn't convince him the same way.
I kept silent.
Father looked to me, "Raphael, she can stay with you, but it is conditional, if you and she fail to do so, you will be punished together, and I have been lenient enough with you."
"Yes, Father, I will prove it to you."
"Raphael, I have one more question, and if you don't want to answer me, you don't have to."
I looked over at him, "What?"
"Are you sure you can always keep your love for Lena?"
I know everything.
My father, such a successful man, how much he sacrificed to get to where he is today.
I do hate William's mother, and if it weren't for them, my mother would not have left so early, but he is in no position to ask me that question.
"Do you think that I would be like you?" I suppressed my anger and asked back.
"I hope you won't."
"I won't, Father."
It was not a very pleasant conversation. I still didn't get the information I wanted. However, when I went back and saw Lena, all the anger disappeared.
Lena hugged me and she looked at me, "Rafael, there's good news."
"What?"
"I found the root of the problem."
I didn't have time to think about today's conversation any longer, and Lena quickly sent me all the things she had investigated. When I saw it all, my gaze was instantly cold.
"Rafael, are you okay? Your face looks terrible."
I looked over to Lena and smiled at her. What happened next had nothing to do with Lena.
The people she investigated were already people I had suspected for a long time, but I didn't have any evidence to prove they had a problem.
And there must be a huge problem behind them as well.
"Rafael!" Lena suddenly shouted out very loudly, and I turned my head to look at her with a puzzled look.
Lena sighed, "I just called you a lot and you didn't even pay attention to me."
"What's wrong? I was just thinking about something and didn't hear it."
"You've figured out what it is, haven't you?"
I looked to Lena, some hesitation nodded: "I have the object of suspicion, but this matter, still need to continue to confirm before, why, Lena, you are again found something?"
Lena looked at me and seemed a little hesitant whether she should say it or not.
"It's okay, Lena, if you have any problems, just tell me, I don't want you to."
Lena nodded: "Before, when your father came to me, he already told me that there is something wrong with your company, but after I recently checked, I feel that this matter may not be as simple as it seems."
The Hill Group still has a lot of backbones that are under my father's command. Although I am now the nominal person in charge, however, many people are watching me, and once I make a serious mistake, someone will immediately come over to replace me. And because of this reason, my father did not fully transfer the equity over.
Lena looked at me and finished the rest of her sentence, "There is a considerable amount of information that I don't have permission to view, Raphael, only you can do it yourself, but I think it's best if you don't continue to look deeper."
"Why?"
Lena's face looked tired: "You're dealing with what could very well be a whole company."
I now know why this problem was not discovered by Lena until now.
The assholes inside the Hill Group, it's time to be cleaned out.
