Chapter 35 Lena resigns
(Lena's POV)
I could feel the change in the people around me. This feeling became very strong when I came here after I got married.
While I know this is normal, I don't like having to be greeted once by each person as I pass them.
On top of that, I'm not at all sure that these people are going to talk about me behind my back.
Of course, I had already guessed the answer.
Rafael worked a lot more after that day. We were in the same office, but he didn't have a lot of time to spend with me, and I could understand this behavior of his.
Rafael was guilty of it instead.
"Honey, you don't have to worry about me at all, if you want to spend time with me earlier then why don't you finish your work faster."
Rafael held me in his arms.
I know he is a strong enough person that many things do not require me to worry too much.
But soon, a new problem emerged.
Raphael's face was hard when he came back from the conference room, and I asked him why, but, he didn't tell me exactly what happened.
Landon stopped me afterward.
"Ma'am, may I speak with you for a moment?"
How much Rafael trusts Landon, this thing is still clear to me.
I looked at Landon, "What do you want to talk to me about?"
"Madam, Mr. Raphael has recently encountered a very difficult matter, and this matter has something to do with you."
"Tell me, Landon, I already guessed, but, Rafael wasn't going to tell me."
"They hope that Mr. Rafael can dismiss you."
I blinked and was silent for a moment.
I know that my presence does pose a threat to some people, but Rafael will certainly not compromise with these people, so naturally, he did not tell me everything. But now, Landon took the initiative to come to me, and I knew that the best solution to this matter must be my dismissal.
"Can you give me a reason, Landon?"
"Now, those people have started to endanger Mr. Rafael, and you are his interpreter, but, also his wife, which is not in line with the company's rules, of course-"
Landon looked around to make sure no one was there, then he moved closer to me again and lowered his voice: "They know that you and Sir have started investigating the assholes behind the Hill Group, and those people are worried that you will touch their interests, so, they plan to make the first move on you."
"Landon, if that's true, all the more reason why I can't leave Raphael here alone." My brow furrowed, and Landon's face didn't look good.
Now, I finally experienced a kind of despair.
No one will come to help us, this time, we can only rely on ourselves.
"Landon, tell me, does Rafael think I should leave first too?" I inquired softly.
Landon nodded: "But sir knew that you would certainly not want to leave at this time, so he did not tell you. Ma'am, you are pregnant now, everyone knows about it, the inside of the company is not the safest place to be right now, and if you go home now, sir can also completely let go of the action."
I took a deep breath.
I know that Rafael is in a difficult position. I understand all of what Landon said. I really should not continue to stay here, otherwise, it will only make Raphael's movements suffer more.
After a long silence, I told Landon my answer, "I'll take the initiative and talk to him, Landon, thank you."
Landon breathed a sigh of relief and he smiled at me, "Thank you, ma'am, the gentleman is lucky to have met you."
"It's also lucky for him that he met you."
In the evening, when I got back, I told Rafael that I didn't want to work in the company anymore.
"Why? Are you feeling unwell?"
"Landon came to see me."
Raphael looked a little surprised, "What did he say to you?"
"It says everything."
"So, what do you think?"
I walked over to Rafael and took a seat next to him. Rafael thoughtfully helped me hold the cushion behind me and did not rush me to say something.
"Raphael, you don't have to worry about me, want me to do something, just tell me directly, we are now facing the same thing, to solve the same problem, no matter what, I will support you."
Rafael reached out his hand and he gently stroked my hair before giving me a tender kiss.
"Lena, I don't want you to worry about me, but right now, I can only focus on the company first and there's no way to take care of you too much."
I took Rafael's hand and reached out to caress his cheek.
"Raphael, even if I'm not by your side, I can still be your backup." My look was very serious, and my heart did feel the same way.
It can help Raphael, and that's what I want to do.
Rafael nodded.
I was working behind the scenes, and Raphael was directly confronting the tough guys.
The real turnaround came a month later when Rafael suddenly told me that he needed to go to a party and needed me to make an appearance.
By this time, my pregnancy was starting to show.
Even so, Rafael still prepared a very perfect evening dress for me. The burgundy gown set me off even more beautifully.
We arrived at the location of the party, a night that was destined to be extraordinary.
Many people came to the party, and even though I never deliberately paid attention to what was going on between the companies, there were still many people that I was able to recognize.
I took Rafael's strong arm, not worrying about the party in my mind.
A lot of reporters came too, and as they were taking pictures of Rafael and me, Rafael stopped them.
He knew that I didn't like them.
Midway through the evening, Rafael needed to attend to some business alone and we were forced to part ways. He told me that he would be back soon.
It was also during this process that I saw people I didn't want to see.
Rachel looked very radiant as she saw me and raised her glass to me from afar.
I wasn't drinking because I was pregnant, but I still gestured to her politely.
I was expecting that to be the end of it when Rachel surprisingly came up to me, "Lena, you look great."
I smiled at her.
I admire Rachel. I know she did a lot of things to me, and I know that the person who least wanted me to marry Raphael was Rachel, but still, she was able to maintain her disguise.
And, very naturally, she raised her glass to me. The best I could do was to smile at her.
"Thank you for your concern, Miss Brown, it's an honor to meet you here."
Rachel smiled very falsely, "Is Rafael treating you well?"
"Of course, he's always been good to me."
At this time, the other people came over like us after seeing Rachel.
"Good evening, ladies."
"Good evening, Mr. Wood."
I did not know this gentleman, but Rachel seemed to be very familiar with him.
Rachel looked at me again and she introduced me with great enthusiasm, "This is Mr. Wood, he is a journalist, a very capable journalist."
Rachel's tone sounded uncomfortable to me and I had some subconscious disgust, but that didn't make my smile disappear.
Then Rachel held out her finger and pointed to me, "This, is Lena Hill, she is Mr. Raphael's woman."
I looked to Rachel and probably already understood what Rachel meant.
Raphael is a very well-known person, these people for Raphael, are bound to be very curious.
However, recently, Rafael is out of a lot of things, a reporter, the most like to focus on is certainly a well-known person.
Rachel now, of course, wants us to be on top of public opinion.
I looked over at Wood, who was so curious about me that even the light seemed to be coming out of his eyes.
"Good evening, Mrs. Hill, it's a pleasure to meet you."
I still kept my smile and nodded slightly to him, "It's an honor for me, too."
"Ma'am, I wonder if you have time now so we can sit down and talk?"
Rachel and Wood looked at me with very burning eyes.
My smile deepened a bit: "Not, sir, I'm sorry, but my husband is already waiting for me to get to him."
Wood's face looked a little lost, and then, he glanced at Rachel.
I knew there must be some strange deal between them.
Rachel's face did not change much, she very intimately reached out and took me by the arm, then leaned over and said close to my ear, "Lena, it won't take too long, he just has some questions he wants to ask you."
"To be honest, Rachel, I don't trust you."
I turned my head and my tone was light, not even a little angry. But that doesn't mean that I've forgotten all of Rachel's behavior from before. What happened in the Maldives once was enough.
But it was clear that Rachel wanted it to happen again.
"Lena, this is a deal, it's just a conversation, you won't be asked serious questions, and besides, don't you want to learn more about Rafael from someone else? He's not as innocent as you think he is."
I turned my head to look at Rachel and eventually narrowed my eyes.
"Rachel, if you want to stir up our relationship, shouldn't you go to Raphael?"
When Rachel heard this, she suddenly laughed a little, then she let go of my hand and pulled away from me.
Rachel seemed to want to say something else, and she had just opened her mouth when her face suddenly changed for a moment. Her eyes passed through me and, finally, landed behind me, and I looked behind me, and Raphael was walking towards us.
After seeing Raphael's figure, my heart dropped.
