Chapter 65 Lena's husband

(Lena's POV)
"Let her go."
I looked at the sudden appearance of Raphael and froze in place for a moment.
Mary didn't seem to expect anyone to come out and stop her either, and she looked too stunned by Raphael to move at all.
"This is impossible, how can this happen?"
Rafael saw that Mary did not respond at all and directly reached out and yanked Mary away.
Mary stumbled and almost fell to the ground.
"What is your relationship with Lena? I'm telling you, you'd better stay out of things between us, or else you'll get into trouble too." Mary quickly adjusted her expression again, and she looked really scary.
I still hadn't gotten over the shock of what I had just done. However, Mary's words had reminded me.
This is really between our sisters and Rafael, although he is my nominal husband, I do not acknowledge our relationship and he does not have to do so much for me.
However, even though I was thinking this, but, at this time, Raphael was already standing in front of me, and he was dead in my way.
I looked at Rafael's broad back and then saw Mary's angry look and felt aggrieved for a moment.
There has never been a person who would treat me this way.
I understand that Rafael takes great care of me and he is willing to meet all my requests, whether it is about my life in general or in other areas.
I had wondered why Rafael was like that to me. At that time, I was already touched by him. However, even if I was touched by Rafael's dedication to me, I just hoped I could have the opportunity to repay him later.
However, that feeling is completely different from todays.
At that moment, the thought suddenly appeared in my mind that I could not live without Raphael. I think that such a bond had emerged in the course of our daily life together. It was solidified when Raphael carried me to sleep. It was merely that I didn't want to admit it to myself.
I thought back to my past and the memories of having lived with Mary came flooding back in an instant.
When I first came to that home, I expected my father to welcome me, but I didn't expect that he already had a new family.
After Mary saw my arrival, she was not welcome.
I had thought that if I acted friendly, I could surely impress them. However, it turned out that my idea was still naive.
Mary kicked me out of my room, shouted insults at me, and told me to get out of the house.
However, I am also Lester's daughter, and there should be room for me in this house.
At that time, I looked to my father, and I never wished as much as I did at that time that one could have stepped forward to help me. But, there wasn't.
Mary said she was the older sister, so I had to do everything she said. I tried many ways to please Mary to stay in that house. Mary took away my beloved clothes and made me do all the chores in the house.
I have given my all because I know that no one will step up to help me.
But I didn't expect that now, Raphael was standing in front of me.
He chose to protect me even though I didn't deserve him to do it for me.
"Lena, is this your husband? It seems that you are still quite capable, but, people will grow old, and then you will be abandoned like your mother, I'm afraid?" Mary's words were very hard to hear and she gave a very cold laugh and looked at me with a resentful gaze.
I never met my mother, even though I was ridiculed and told that I had killed my mother. I loved her deeply, too.
I would never allow Mary to insult my mother like that.
I crossed directly over Raphael and rushed out from behind him, I no longer cared about my sanity. It has even started you don't care what consequences this thing will bring me.
Then, my slap landed hard on Mary's face.
This crisp applause penetrated the entire promenade and the air became quiet.
All I could hear was my violent gasp, and at the same time, I saw Mary's shocked face.
She would not have believed that I would reach out and hit her.
Because this is not the first time Mary scolded me like this. But, I don't know why, but this time I finally dared to do what I wanted to do.
Mary finally came back to her senses, half of her cheeks already flushed, and I certainly knew exactly how much force I had used.
However, I don't even care.
"Mary, you better keep your mouth shut; you can call me names, but, you can't call my mother names."
I said this, and when Mary heard it, she started laughing again. But this time, her daughter has joined the madness.
"Oh my God! Lena, you don't think you can do whatever you want when you get a rich husband, do you?"
Suddenly I thought of Raphael.
Yes, I am now Rafael's wife and any inappropriate behavior may bring repercussions to Rafael.
At this time, instead, I glanced back at Raphael uneasily.
Perhaps, Mary is taking this opportunity to try to slap me as well.
But obviously, Mary didn't get her way. Because at this time, Raphael suddenly rushed over again, he grabbed Mary's wrist tightly, and then pushed Mary hard.
I watched as Mary backed up repeatedly and eventually crashed into Gene's body.
Raphael's face was downcast, but, he reached out and put his arm around my waist, then, he looked at Marie and said, "I'm sorry, but, Lena can indeed do whatever she wants."
My eyes widened and I looked at Rafael with disbelief.
I knew I must have gotten him into some trouble this time, but Rafael didn't seem to blame me for it.
I didn't know what to say, except to look at Mary.
Mary's face was hard, and she looked at Raphael as if she wanted to say something else.
This time, Gene pulled her gently, and then, Gene whispered something in her ear.
Then I saw Mary's exasperated look turn to one of horror.
Half of her face was already a little red and swollen from my beating, and now it looks as if it's even more ridiculous.
Mary looked at Rafael with a look of fear on her face, and I think I have guessed exactly what Gene said to her.
But that's not something I need to care about anymore.
"But it's simply impossible, how can this be--"
Mary quickly put her previous expression away, and then, she thought she was smiling very sweetly at Raphael, but I think that expression was one of the most disgusting I've ever seen.
Raphael's face didn't look any better, and his tone was even angrier than before: "Get out of my sight now, and you'd better never mess with Lena, or I'll make you regret it."
Mary's smile eventually froze on her face, but she still didn't leave: "Mr. Hill, I think there must be some misunderstanding, how could Lena be your wife?"
I felt Raphael's hand tighten hard around me, and then, he said, "I need you to tell me what's right?"
Mary seemed to want to continue to explain, but Rafael wasn't going to give her that chance.
Raphael looked aside to Gene, "Take her away now."
Gene did not dare to go against Raphael's wishes, he hurried over and started whispering in Mary's ear again.
However, Mary did not let that stop her.
Mary looked very painful, she deliberately put on an unfortunate look, and then said sadly: "Mr. Hill, I know, you must have some bitterness, I think, you must have been deceived by Lena, you were deceived by her appearance, and though she was a good person."
My heart suddenly beat faster, and then, shakily, I said, "Mary, that's the right word for you, haven't you forgotten how you've treated me before?"
I couldn't resist questioning it out loud, but Mary didn't seem to have any repercussions.
She still sighed helplessly, "Mr. Hill, I think that if you knew what kind of person Lena used to be, you would not continue to like her."
I wanted to continue to say something, but, at this time, Rafael interrupted me.
"Oh? Is that so? But I don't think you need to tell me whatever Lena used to be like, so keep your mouth shut, or I'll have ways to make you never say anything." Rafael said coldly.
I watched as Mary's eyes had reddened, and then, very reluctantly, she glanced at Raphael again. As Marie turned her gaze to me, her eyes became fierce once again.
I looked at her fearlessly.
Gene eventually managed to convince Mary, who walked past me, though I distinctly heard her say a word of warning as she passed by.
I took a deep breath, which didn't seem to be heard by Raphael because Raphael didn't react.
I heard Mary say, "Wait for me, Lena, I won't let you go."
After Mary left completely, my heart was heavy for a moment.
I couldn't help but think back to what Mary had told me.
I was touched by Rafael because of his presence, but once I calmed down, I suddenly had a feeling of powerlessness.
I can't do anything for Rafael, who is more capable than me and, at the same time, has more status than me.
And I appeared to have put Rafael in some kind of predicament. I didn't know exactly how to get this dilemma out of my head; I had to rely on Raphael and trust him completely.
But it was all too unfair to Rafael.
